There is now a 2 day Grace Period announced from the Bioware Founders.

Quote
Hello everyone,

While we’ve worked closely with our retailers in the launch territories to ensure copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic are available from our launch date of December 20th, we understand that for those of you who’ve pre-ordered, there may be a concern about getting your copy on time. We’ve heard you want a ‘grace period’ where you can continue to play without having to enter a final product registration code (AKA ‘game code’).

We’ve been listening, and after doing another deep review of our platform infrastructure, we’re taking action. Today, we’re announcing a two day grace period for Star Wars: The Old Republic customers.

This means that everyone who pre-ordered and is in the Early Game Access program has forty-eight hours from launch in which to enter their product registration code, which will be found inside the physical Standard and Collector’s Editions of the game; for digital editions of the game from Origin.com, the registration code will have been emailed to you after December 16th and will arrive before December 19th at 11:59PM EST. After December 22nd 12:01AM EST, you will be required to have a valid payment method and a product registration code registered to your account to continue to play. We strongly recommend that you register your product code as soon as you are able to do so (rather than waiting until the last minute) to ensure a seamless entry into the game, a smooth experience on the account website and to collect any special gifts and items you may be entitled to based on the version of the game you purchased.

We understand that for some, your copy of the game may still arrive on or after December 22nd. Unfortunately, we cannot extend the grace period any further. We suggest you contact your retailer to discuss shipping options, if this is a concern.

You may be wondering if your 30 days of game time (included with your purchase of the game) will be affected by the grace period. The answer is no. If you redeem your product registration code during the grace period, and add a valid payment method to your account, you will begin your billing cycle from then, and you will be entitled to 30 days of game time. If you redeem your product registration code before December 20th, your billing cycle will begin on December 20th at 12:01AM EST (the official launch date and time of the game).

We know this has been an issue for some of you, and we apologize for the concerns. We’re looking forward to welcoming all of you to the official launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic!
Thanks,
Ray and Greg

It's the right way to do a game which has a service component. Most MMO launches have done this because it's just the right thing to do. I'm glad BW/EA figured out how to make it happen.

Amazon just shipped my copy of the game via "release-date delivery". It'll arrive tomorrow. So that's pretty cool, no grace period necessary for me.

On a related note, they buckled and will have a 48 hour grace period. Interestingly, from the way I read it, we're incentivized not to enter our code until Dec 22nd, as billing starts from there.

SWTOR had a million preorders. That's a million dollars lost, which explains why they didn't want to do a grace period.

Pocket change compared to the deluge of money that's coming in now, but I agree that that's probably why it took so long. Dev grunt #34 is unlikely to be allowed to just make a million dollar decision without some EA bigwig signing off on it.

It's only a million dollars if every preorder subscribes, but yeah.

Got me email this morning while I was at work, then had to go to the second job, now I'm in class for two hours.   swamp poop

Read through some of the Facebook/forum posts with people raging about early access being unfair, and how it's ripping people off and how it's ruining world firsts by giving people a head start and etc, etc, etc.  I play a lot of onlilne crap and I don't think I've never wished to reach through the internet and punch someome as bad as all these insane people RAGING about the early access.

I love how people rage about 'world firsts' when there's nothing in-game that tracks world firsts.

I don't think the people who obsess over them realize at all what a small percent of the game even cares.

I was in the same boat as you. Got up at 9am and F5'd my email and the twitter every hour to see if I got in. Finally got my invite at 1pm; had to leave for work at 1:15.  Mob At least I got to reserve character names for myself and a few friends; I've got all night to play now, and tomorrow off too!

Courier just delivered my Collector's Edition. Package and contents are really fabulous!  Love Letters Love Letters

Quality of the materials is top notch, as far as I can judge, especially the journal of Master Gnost-Dural. Darth Malgus statue is great and arrived without any damage.

I haven't purchased a lot of CEs lately, but this is at least on par with the old Wing Commander 3 UK limited edition (the "reel" one) and the other Origin boxes of old.

a friend of mine found a vanilla wow collectors on ebay and bought it for 500 quid or something. She likes her pets...

Don't know what's exclusive about this one, but if there's something unique and the game is successful it'll be worth quite a bit down the line. Having said that, I did have some tabula rasa collector's editions lying around the office a couple years back. We were selling them at 5 euro   awesome, for real

They only appear to be going for $200-$250 right now.  The WOW ones didn't go up in price until you couldn't buy them anymore, though.
