I'm an ignorant fanboi lemming.

No, Ghambit is just 100% wrong.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

So, you guys bought into the whole chest-pound "we be a big game" and "we dont want server mergers" ego trip reid posted?  cmon now.
None of his reasoning (especially the merger part) has any real-world effect, especially downstream... 'cept to piss people off.

Protip:  lease enough servers, then open them  -fin   It need not be more complex then that.

I read somewhere that this was EA's call and not BW's.  Dunno if that's true, but it'd make a lot more sense if that was the case.
This parsing of invites breaks more things than it fixes imo and reid's explanation also wasn't good enough unless you're an ignorant fanboi lemming.

Also been reading around the webz about many many markets already being cornered (even purpz already), gold farming being rampant, and a lot of day 1 folk who just cant find groups to play with and end up skipping content or are being forced to play alts (which doesnt help the starter zones).  Another interesting effect is the secondary gaming market (livestreamers for instance), wherein BW gets free advertising...  a lot of it is lost since there really is no day 1 rush and many contributors cant login yet.  And when they do, the zone is dead.  There's no '1st to 50,' 'first raid,' or any of that either now of course.  It's all been rendered dependent on pre-access.

The last effect I read on was that BW really doesnt have adequate server load/pop numbers now.  Since they're parsing invites rather than letting everyone in, they cant guage peak use in any node whatsoever until all invites are done.  When this point arrives, people/guilds will be too far along to switch servers once the untested realms pop queues.  Especially so on launch day.

Anyways, it's a borked launch model.  I much preferred Rift's launch style to any other MMO I've seen.  They had double the amount of necessary servers on tap if need be and opened extras the moment things got dicey.  You typically could find a stable server by day 2 and had many to choose from.  By actual launch day they had all the numbers they needed and things were near perfect for the late arrivals.   Later on they'd allow server moves and mergers, and so on.

I dunno, the whole idea kinda destroyed it for me (probably for a lot of other too).  And when you even start hearing people who got in at 7am tuesday complaining, then it's probably time for BW to re-evaluate your motives.

No, I disagree: mostly because this game is a lot "wider" in its audience than the metrics you are referring to: "race to 50", farming, "purplez" and the secondary market. Yes, of course they will bring a lot of money but:

- We're talking about the launch window: the in-game economy won't be borked forever, it will rearrange itself overtime;
- Bioware (or EA) decided to take a different approach compared to Rift, and they more or less stated it yesterday throughout Stephen Reid's post, when he said that "server merges" are BAD advertisement. Yes, they are ready to open a lot more servers in the following days, I'm sure, but don't be surprised if they show some "resistance" in doing so.

- Regarding the present server metrics/load and possible future problems, I really can't say, don't know much about that side of the problem.

And especially, in the end, consider that people are bitching because they can't wait to play (indifference would be worse, wouldn't it?). Once they get their cookie, they will sit happily and silently in a corner and if nothing major happens to the game (serious bugs/flaws/exploits or server side problems), this early access policy will soon be forgotten.

The economy being a little goofy for a week is utterly, utterly meaningless. Not opening too many servers and having to merge later is worth more or less any amount of inconvenience IMO.

They're going to get all the purples and then gouge people that come along later... somehow! Despite the fact that the new people won't have any money to spend anyway and can just as easily get 'purpz' themselves.

And lest I just be snarky without contributing to the 'discussion':
a lot of day 1 folk who just cant find groups to play with and end up skipping content or are being forced to play alts (which doesnt help the starter zones).
Other than that, I ran PUGs for the Dromund Kaas heroic stuff without any problems. We grouped for the mandalorian area and then hit the next one by the statue to get that done. For the Hutta stuff, I caught Cho's sniper just as I was going back at level 11 to clean up the heroic stuff before moving off-world and we duo'd it easy-peasy. A roundabout way of saying it shouldn't be too much of an issue tackling the low hanging group content.

I think this was my favorite bit of cognitive dissonance.  It only takes 3 days to be so firmly entrenched on a server that people couldn't possibly move to another server because it would take so long for them to re-entrench themselves!  swamp poop

I do. Parsing EULAs and whatnot is a sick and disturbing hobby of mine. Sadly, most haven't changed in ages. It used to be that you could redact the game-specific words and map the clauses word-for-word. I copy/pasted the SWTOR ones for future reading as I am too concerned with staring at the patcher until it finishes updating.

I traded in my fun blog for several legal blogs. Or, "blawgs," as the cutesy attorney blawgosphere likes to call 'em.

Uh-oh, they're talking about a class action. This shit just got serious  why so serious?

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=26352

Quote
to all those people who want to throw the fact it says
up to
5 days early access . and use this as a you get what they promised
UP TO
5 days meaning 1 day 2 days 3 days 4 days and even 5 days of access

i think those of us with only UP TO 5 days should look into a class action lawsuit, if others are given 6 and 7 days access, as false advertising because up to 5 days is 1 2 3 4 and 5 not 6 or 7.
to avoid a lawsuit bioware should take everyone who would get 6 or 7 days access thus creating a false advertising on bowares part and deny them 2 of the next 5 days access thus giving all pre orders the advertised UP to 5 days access

so if they got in Tuesday they need to be denied 2 days before the 19th and those who got in Wednesday should be denied 1 day before the 19th

we bought early access as part of a contract for a product. nowhere did it ever say 6 or 7 days access and if it was a gift then bioware should legally be responsible for business perk gift taxes of 2 days for every person they gave a gift to. bioware you are a business and are bound by law to certain business rules
