So if Harmon comes back, but Chevy Chase is out, who is he going to hire to be the on-screen voice of his latent misogyny, homophobia, and racism?

I'm confused, so Harmon is back again?  And did season four wind up okay or not because it's already on my Christmas list!?

Looks like Chang is filling the role of in group antagonist this season.

I shall simply repeat what I just typed in to Lync at work. Awesome.

(I also typed: Was that Walter Goggins?)

Yes, that was Walton Goggins. I've only seen the first season of Community and loved it.

You owe it to yourself to watch seasons 2 and 3; season 3 is where the show really hit its stride I feel. Remedial Chaos Theory is one of the best episodes of any TV show ever.

Jonathan Banks too!

I agree, but they had a few really good episodes.  If you're new to Community, watch all the episodes.

Abed's Christmas episode has now become a holiday tradition of mine.  This show has gone to some really weird places and I love it.

The writing felt much better - and it was good of them to give the hologram a send-off.

the season premier, Re-Pilot, was the most insane meta layered thing they've ever done. The fact that they managed to make fun of everything that the show went through in the Lost Season and everything that's going to change, like Glover leaving, was just amazing. The fact that the episode was a near mirror for the original pilot only made it that much more delicious.

It's uncanny how much of a difference Dan Harmon seems to make; the actors seem to have better timing, they work off each other in a more natural way, the jokes and pacing feel better. It gives me hopes for the rest of the season.

Apparently there's going to be another D&D episode too  awesome, for real

Harmon is fine with throwing a joke grenade and leaving it out there. The past season was more stereotypical sitcom where you have to sit and make sure the audience gets it. It's what makes Community rewatchable. There's so many little things you will probably miss the first time.

The thing that is great about the show is that can be completley off the wall. They do absurd things and take crazy leaps for a joke. This felt like it was missing while harmon was gone. Now its back, and awesome.

They have also filled in an awesome assortment of oddball recurring secondary characters. These secondary characters really complete the world and give many more chances for humor. This is something I think the simpsons has done better than any show. Parks and Rec also does this well.

Oh man, Dan Harmon's Community is so much better than not-Dan-Harmon's Community.

The last two episodes have riffed on great episodes from the past, while keeping things moving forward, all in all I think they've handled the series as well as anyone could hope so far.

Yeah, it's back from being an OK watch to consistently fantastic. In case you stopped watching during the non-Harmon episodes you should really pick this up again.

I'm 1-2 episodes behind at the moment, but if you have not watched, go back and watch everything this season. Perhaps the strongest season yet, and Re-Pilot (the season premier) is probably my favorite episode of television ever.

They said "fuck this fourth wall shit" and somehow broke 5th, 6th and 7th walls.

I'm speculating there is a good chance that Pierce is not dead.

They will likely never have in him in the same room as the rest of the cast again, but I could see them revealing that he faked his death and is manipulating the group for his own ends...  Of course, they might not be able to have Chevy return if The Family Vacation series gets picked up on - ABC?

He cameos onece, he could do it again... and they could do it with a recasting, too - it would not be out of character for Pierce to go to extremes (surgery) to try to fit in.  Just saying...

Well, jesus.. sure, if they recast him. But that's such a shifting-goalposts kind of argument. Come on man, that's not what we were talking about. When we're talking about Pierce Hawthorn, we are talking about Chevy Chase.

If he does show up, it would probably be something like he did in the season premier. Sounds like there's plenty of legal reasoning behind him not being on set.

Putting aside the recast, it was Harmon that went to Chevy and asked him to return for the premiere... and they have specifically called out Pierce trying to control the group from beyond the grave... and that decided to use that as the reason that Troy is leaving...

I could easily be wrong.  But there are some signs pointing in that direction.  All I'm saying...

Maybe it was wishful thinking, but at the time, during that "ass crack bandit" episode, I thought for sure that was Pierce they were chasing before they found Starburns.

I'm not sure what evidence that is for anything down the road beyond more hologram stuff. He says that he had to film Chevy on a separate stage to get the studio to agree. he's just not going to be able to have a return unless something fundamentally changes.

I read all of that interaction as something else entirely. The characters are coming from the angle that Pierce was fucked up and weird, but everything about that seems to indicate that Pierce was actually trying to be a decent person. It showed that the characters are pretty immature emotionally, assuming the worst... even if Pierce still managed to be SOMEWHAT of a clueless twat for some of it. They needed a good way to write off Troy and it works, considering their shared history.
