Cancelled (1 day before being charged, woot) 1. I will not grind for advancement. According to everything I've read, there are still gaping holes in the quest based progression. 2. Let's be honest here, the game still runs like a fucking pig. WoW does not suffer from these peformance issues even remotely. Yes, I know, you can make the game "playable", but this type of performance in a MMO is not acceptable. doesn't have this sort of problem either. They may look terrible in comparison, but beauty only gets you so far. 3. Game's not finished. I see little reason to play this game at max level. See 1, 4. 4. Bat Country has no stickiness for me. Parallel play. 5. I'm not going to PVP in order to make a game interesting. I'm going to avoid insulting anyone here. I like the game. The combat mechanics are great, the world is well done, the audio and visual aspects are fantastic, but ultimately, it fails as a MMO for me. I may still be subbed if two of my friends hadn't resubbed to WoW, but I have a soft rule about not having 2 MMO subs going at the same time. AoC would have still likely lost in the end. I can see myself giving this another shot.. in like.. a while. WoLK will make giving this another shot in 6 months not feasible. Summed it up nicely for me, so ditto.

I've got friends who are looking to sign up. Once they do, I'll join as well.
But it's been worth my time looking at these forums go from "AoC: It's really fun!" to "AoC: Meh".
How's "AoC - Meh, it's really fun." The 'really fun' big didn't last a full month, or apparently long enough for anyone to pay for a sub. So 'meh' it is for now.

They should have struck a deal with MS and packaged this game with an xbox 360 controller ( You can use these on PCs in case you don't follow consoles ) and then they could have spent much more time refining the UI and the controls to fit an actual action game. Which is what they really wanted it to be, I think.

Someone I chat to on another board said his pre-order for the 360 version was canceled by Gamestop (I think it was Gamestop) and that when he tried to pre-order it from someplace else, he couldn't find one anywhere. Has the 360 version been ditched?

Funcom survey came in today after cancelling a while ago (two + weeks I think siting "gameplay issues"). Read it if you want, some of the questions confuse me.... Edit: and the server's unreachable after filling it out.... sigh!

I cancelled as well, but only because my PC is under the minspec and I was seeing at best 15-20fps.

I finally got a response. Two of them, actually, which was a little strange. Greetings!
We apologize for the inconvenience but can you please verify me the phone number you are registering the account with for the SMS verification? Please include the area code with the rest of the number.
Thank you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GM- Lugal Followed by: Greetings,

GM Hakatai Funcom Customer Support Associate I thought it was really cute how the second guy didn't remember to edit his instructions from his boss out of the email. I sent them my phone number again and am EAGERLY awaiting their response.

Cancelled, but not really Funcom's fault on this one.
At this point in time I've decided I really don't want to go back on the MMO treadmill again. I have a WoW sub open which is basically a $15 a month chat room for keeping in touch with old friends. Otherwise I'm stimulating my brain with EUIII and a really buggy Supreme Ruler 2020.

I'm currently only subscribed to LotR as I have a lifetime sub, but besides that I am having a hard time convincing myself to spend the $$ on this game and plus the fact that I need some computer upgrades so that it would run.

Of course, I got this email once I was already in the office this morning (just 5 minutes ago), so I can't get into the broken fun until at least 10 hours from now. Timing is everything.

More big differences in combat (at least PvP combat) are the sidesteps/backsteps, active parry and collision detection. That means a lot for casters too. Maybe not at level 40 when you are whacking foozles but they are there for so many situational reasons, not necessarily apparent during your ordinary grind-job.
I don't know if some people received a free blindfold instead of the rhino mount with their purchases or it's just me and the other lots who's still playing that feel the combat so different and refreshing from ANY other MMORPG so far.
Autoattack? There is none. Not different from other MMORPG combats? Whatever dude. Who am I to judge?
You see I rolled a Conqueror. Combat goes something like this - Lumbering Hulk, line up mobs in front arc if there is more than one, Combo #1 (mash two attacks, mobs take 33% damage), combo #2 (mash two attacks, mobs take 33% damage), Combo #3 (mash two attacks, mobs take 33% damage), mop up remain mobs with normal attacks. That's it. Maybe throw in a knockdown attack or drink a potion if I'm really getting wailed on. Sure it's better than a pile of MMOs but its hardly turning MMO combat on its head in the name of fun.

I haven't bought it yet. I'm going to do a computer upgrade towards the end of July (most likely) and before that it wouldn't even be worth trying. Also I wanted to see what happened with yall because I only roll one character and only try once so picking a server/guild/class with no information is going to be trouble.

What kind of download speeds are you getting and how big is the download? It shouldn't be more than a gig or so, even with the recent patches.

Really? Cause it looks like around 12 gig from here. I'm getting 500+ KB/Sec, it says 8 1/2 hours now...maybe it needed time to stabilize...but still.

Although, Falconeer mostly seems to be referring to the depth it gives to PvP. I can't speak for PvP as I don't PvP on a regular basis in any game except shooters. I can appriciate that notion, however. Usually PvP games in general work better with fluid combat systems, that is, less paper-rock-scissory while "AI" usually does better with more quantified abilities. Clunky, quantified abilties combine and mix in a more interesting fashion than fluid numbers when added together from several sources. "Show stoppers" are entirely unfun (for the afflicted) in PvP while they are bread and butter in almost every PvE milleu, regardless of whether it's an MMO or a shooter.

I've done Tortage about 12 times. Fully. And still don't mind it cause its so fast and simple, if Tortage gets to you the rest of the game will rip your soul out.

My WoW guild was asking how things were going, I told them that it's not. Essentially, I could make a list of 100 things that I didn't like about the game, but I have no desire to.
At the end of it all, I simply wasn't having fun enough to keep playing let alone paying for it. I don't even feel compelled to try to make it a better game by giving them feedback. It's strange, because it's the only game I've ever felt this way about.

I've done Tortage 5 times now and am sick of it. The last couple of times have been on the pvp server and starting brawls in White Sands made it marginally more interesting, but I am really tired of those quests. I don't have any characters over level 30, so that's really my only complaint, but it's what has kept me from leveling a character on Zug.

I have found that Tesso is the best place to start shit. One of my favorite things to do is to run up and attack some one in town, hit them maybe 2 or 3 times, then run over and stand by one of the guards so that when the person hits me they get guard killed. I cant stop laughing when it happens.

Oh man, Tesso is the BEST place to stir up the hornets nest. We (being a 39 Tos/Necro duo and me with my 29 Ranger) managed to kill a 72 that tried to run from us on his horse and a 72/73 combo that the town guards pounded on. How much fun is it to rez camp a level 72 and 73?
A LOT.
We had some fake [Undead Lords] guild chase us away though, but usually when we want to stir things up, we head to Tesso. That town turns into a battlezone very quickly.

I'd just got to 30 and was looking forward to the Black Castle for some easy casual AOE leveling. But the July 26th patch pulled the rug out on that and make it a group only dungeon. Kind of killed my enthusiasm, especially reading how the 70+ grind was also worsened. Hey Funcom I don't want to grind, just want to casually level some characters then go PVP.

Kind of killed my enthusiasm, especially reading how the 70+ grind was also worsened. Hey Funcom I don't want to grind, just want to casually level some characters then go PVP. Just for the record, I wouldn't put too much faith in the "zomg you have to grind zomg zomg zomg" doomsaying. I hit level 61 last night and I've never done anything but quests the whole time. My quest log was full at 55, 58 and last night at 60 it is back to full again. There are plenty of quests, despite what message board trolls say. ;) In fact, I'd say the number 1 thing they did wrong with the quest part of the game was there are sometimes as few as 1 quest to bring you to the next quest hub. So if you skip that 1 quest you miss the whole hub. For instance, at 58 I decided to do a quest that took me out looking for a scout in the E mountains. If I had chosen not to do that, I'd have missed 5 quests that were all given out around that corpse. The only thing guiding me there was one quest that didn't really seem to indicate that it would be giving me a quest. I suspect that's what a lot of the whining is really stemming from. EDIT: And if you just *have* to AE grind, then Border Ranges and Outflow Tunnels are private instances at the same level as Black Castle that you can ae.

Well now you can get half a level every five hours doing villas in Noble District so you don't have to grind out camps in the public areas, that's made things easier. The only way you could get into the sixties without grinding is if you have a very set group and do all the group quests, including the ones in the resource areas.

Fascinating...the AOC launcher now has a statement up about authentication failure.
But it seems to be indicating that the failure is the fault of the player.
Now...if there are enough instances of this issue that they need to make a statement...how the fuck is it PEBKAC?
