Yeah.
For the full experience, imagine some dude from Philly saying, "Don't you tell me you don' know what your boogies taste like." over and over again in vent.

I like the guild name though. And what mod do you have that changes the map from a circle to taking up the rest of the corner, I also like that.

You guys have almost talked me into getting one of the cooler unit frames mods, like x-perl.
Anyone care to write a contrast/comparison?

I don't even know what a unit frame mod is. Would someone care to explain that?

The little thingie top left with your character's health/mana/whatever, your target, optionally your target's target, etc. The graphic design of those are termed 'unit frames'. Unit frame mods therefore change the appearance and behaviour of those. I use Perl Classic - I find it to be neat and uncluttered and it has all the whistles I need (such as ability to see when my target starts casting so that I can silence/bash/earthshock) without having crap that I don't.

You know.. where you see your health/mana/energy/rage, level, and character portrait. Same for your target, your group, and possibly your raid. I can post a screenshot when I get home. Right now, I'm using X-Perl unit frames. It gives me nicely visible health/mana bars with numbers and percentages. They're resizable, customizable, and able to be placed anywhere on your UI. Unfortunately, I can't retrain my eye to look anywhere but upper left for that information. It also has a nice set of optional/additional features: -Enemy cast bars shown above their portrait. -Scrolling combat text over enemy portrait (turned this off) -Aggro notice when grouped. (marginally useful, but integrates with threat meters I'm told) -Repositional combo points indicator and an energy ticker for rogues/cats. -Can see target of target (turned off), people targetting you, people assisting you, people healing you, etc. http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/files/details/3416/x-perl-unitframes/

I only know PerlFrames and ag_unitframes. ag_unitframes: +Insanely customizable, every element is draggable. +Great looking +Constantly Updated. +Self Contained and standalone. -Little goofy on party pets. -Can be annoying to get configured right the first time. -I prefer the old cast-bar for stuff *I* do rather than looking up in the corner at my own unit frame...unfortunately, you have to enter some 'secret' option or edit your config file manually to keep it. PerlFrames +Looks good, very easy to read. +Set up just fine out of the box. Easily Tweakable. +Low Overhead. -Not updated as much. -Not quite as easily tweakable as ag overall. I prefer the look and feel of ag at the moment. It's mostly a matter of which look you prefer. Comparisons: ag_unitframes perlframes

I use the default UI and both target's target and target's spell can be turned on in the options now (unless I somehow accidentally installed a mod to do that for me).
I only use auctioneer and a map mod that tells me my coordinates, I will add some more things once I start grouping with people and need more information. I should probably get this threatmeter you guys are talking about and I would like to see the actual numbers for health/mana so I think I will try out one of these perl mods. I keep forgetting to pick up gatherer too.

I also somehow found a gatherer.lua file laying around that had every harvest node already marked.

Thanks Fab. I like how Perl has the class instead of a portrait. I know what they look like, but which one's the warrior is a good thing to know.

Innuendo flows forth very easily for me. Unfortunately when speaking I don't realize it until everyone is giving me that odd look. I still do it when typing, but I have the luxury of sometimes catching it before I post. At which point I post it anyways if I'm in a funny mood. Theres a joke in there somewhere about sucking, aiming and pleasing, but I aint going anywhere near it...
Oh pants, don't be afraid. Let it all out. (See!? Like triple entendre! This stuff just writes itself, no matter how innocent I mean it.)

Thanks Fab. I like how Perl has the class instead of a portrait. I know what they look like, but which one's the warrior is a good thing to know. AG can also be set to have the Class icon instead of a portrait i believe (as well as coloured names for class colours, etc) For anyone who uses AG, the only thing that irritates me, is that I havent managed to figure out how to get it to show which group (2, 5, etc) i am in when in a raid. My old unitframes used to display a number above my portrait, but i cant seem to figure out if AG has this function. Also, if you want a really sweet castbar mod, check out eCastingBar. Highly customizable cast bar mod that lets you specify the look and positioning of cast bars for : You, your target, The breath / fatigue meter, and the focus target.

I haven't used ag_UF in a while, but you can try editing your character's frame and adding "[raidgroup] - " (no quotes) in front of your name in the custom settings. That should make it so you have "4 - Caldaron" for example where your character name would go.
Of course, it probably looks stupid when you aren't in a raid, but it's worth playing around with.

Downloaded AG_unitframes last night, holy cow does it have a bunch of options. I am looking forward to how it looks in a group setting, I do like how it animates the character portraits.

I was going through one of the "Show your UI" threads on the priest boards and came upon this. If it actually works (it sounds awfully feature rich which means more opportunities for bugs) it might be great. It looks like it gives the maximum amount of information in the least amount of space, I'm going to try it tonight. And the full body avatars for your party look pretty cool. I think I might buy a widescreen monitor too.

Good luck with that. Both Fabricated and I tried it and our only reactions were to run away in terror.
Anyhoo, installed Bongos yesterday. Cleaned up a lot of space and got rid of those annoying right action bars. Plus, it's got some nice features that allowed me to set up a hotbar that swaps in when I prowl. Was impressed at how easy it was to set up.
I think this is going to be my approach. Slowly add stuff that cleans up my interface and perhaps provide additional functuality as needed.

Same here. I added x-perl last night. I like it for now, but at least when soloing it doesn't add much except being different/pretty. I do like the animated portraits, and it doesn't reduce my framerate really (I'd know it if it did, as I don't have much further down I can go). It also doesn't play nice with my Titan bar placement. I had to go the double bar below to keep from covering up part of the unit frame. That's probably OK though, since the least valuable real estate is below your avatar IMO.

You can resize and reposition the frames. Couldn't set up something that was sufficient? (I haven't used TitanBar in a long time)

(I haven't used TitanBar in a long time) From my limited fiddling with it, you can resize them only if they are at the top of the screen. Once they shrink down to minimum size, they start to slide down the side of the screen. That works, but who wants minimum size?

You don't need to need to keep the menu open, just type /xperl unlock (or something like that). That's useful for when you need to move a frame into position that's normally in the middle of your screen.

I prefer classic look and default layout. Right now I'm using: - Titan panel (the bar at the top of the screen that tracks various things. It's fluff but I like having it) - Gatherer for the node tracking on the map - Telo's lootlink must have item database - Telo's Bufftimers changes the format of buff timers, I like this one best - CTmod (core, barmod, expense history, partybuffs, raidassist, unitframes) - MobInfo 2 - mobs database, with customizable tooltips and a bunch of derived infos. Really well done - Atlas Instance maps and infos - AtlasLoot tells you what mobs drop beforehand and lots more stuff (PVP sets, for example). - Census

Fubar and Cartographer are both ACE II addons, and seem to be a bit less of a memory hog when it comes to system resources. Item Synch has some nice functionality in being able to tell you which items you may have picked up could be bad links and boot you from game for linking them, and also allows you to validate links with a much lower chance of getting booted.

Before that patch, I saw someone link [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker of the Monkey]. I can see where it could be exploited though. Booting someone from the server is a little bit of a strange way to respond to it, though.

yeah, it had something to do with the way the item database works. If you try to link an item that the server has never seen before, it will boot you. This can happen when you link legit items also immediately after a major patch. If no one wearing that item has logged in since the patch went live, the server will think it doesent exist and boot you, even though it IS a legit item.

I tried cartographer but it looks a bit messy and clunky to navigate.
It seems that the instance loot packs heroic mode items with standard items, while atlas loot keeps the two well separated.

It's not just patches, it's any time the server's gone down (like after Maintenance or any emergency downtime). So... in general, be careful about linking stuff on Tuesday afternoons :P.
