Completely sanitized bullshit. I would have been impressed if they had the balls to actually sing the lyrics of the song but sadly my intuition was right and they just conveniently cut out all the parts. There was a time when the muppets were slightly edgy, incidentally this was the time when they were also funny. |

Now, I'm no fan of the Black-Eyed Peas. Normally I'll change the channel rather than be subjected to them. I like Tool, Boards of Canada, Buck 65, enter Shikari and not, as a rule, shitty and commercialised chart with quantised vocal lines. Buuuut that song is ridiculously bearable with an intro that (while not original) grabs your attention, a spectacularly catchy hook and a bridge section that I can tell you first hand gets people jumping in a club. If the poor bloke doing that sneering-nerd-by-numbers routine (which would have been fine enough in the first year or so of youtube) is too old to hear and understand good pop then nae luck to him, but he should go watch twenty episodes of Zero Punctuation's review and see how to do it right. Disclaimer: I also think more kindly of that band this week due to the punching-Perez-Hilton thing. |
