Yes, if you click on them you see how that encounter is to you, level wise.  Get close and you have the option of joining a Deep Space Encounter.  Inside you have to fight a few wave of ships.

I'm pretty sure that has been around since release.  Just have to fiddle around until it lets you enter the system/sector.  Try navigating to an adjacent sector, you ship will 'drag' along the sector wall and the pop-up box should appear.

I have noticed the autopilot being a little unstable too.  It seems to be giving other ships an even wider berth than before, and it was bad before.  It also seems to disengage more easily than before.

It seems that the "collision Zone" of ships has been massively increased. I've seem people actually move to block me in sector space now just for giggles, while that would not really have been possible before.

You call it an accident. I call it justice.

Reply #738 on: June 03, 2013, 07:09:08 AM

Since I been re-dabbling in the game, I noticed the tutorial said you could click the quest and it would auto-pilot to the system. I did that and thought, great - going to go grab a drink. Got back and I was at the other side of sector space... thought it was just me.

Noticed plotting a course by clicking on the quest usually sends my ship in varying directions. Plotting it on the map display usually gets it correct.

Yeah, That's really unreliable. Half the time it only sends you to the person that initiated the quest or the start point of the quest. It simply doesn't work the other half of the time. Its pretty LOL worthy

We need more contributions for the starbase. You should all start playing so I can get a fleet ship. Or I could join a big fleet...

I'm contributing when I can. I've just gone broke recently. Though maybe if I stop giving shit away and start selling it instead...

Yeah I got cleaned out of dilithium paying for the Embassy upgrade.  The stores are provisioned, by the way.  You can get a fleet ship now.  You could also get an invite to a bigger fleet's starbase.  Even if you use their store it consumes our provisions, so you wouldn't have to leave the majesty that is Bat Quadrant!

My fed starbase hastier 4 everything bar engineering. so if you need an invite to my base poke me in game. @suranis is my handle. The only thing is that my fleet has things locked down so you need a certain rank to use provisions, would that affect if I just invite people to the base to use the vendors?

What is the fastest path to getting one of those fleet ships? Is there like a dedicated 'oh, you're stupid? well here am best path to makings of fleet credity thingies..' guide to like, dilithium and fleet wampum

Contributing dilithium, fleet marks, and doffs to projects are good ways to earn fleet credits.  When it comes to ships, the fleet credit cost is actually pretty low, the pain comes from buying fleet ship modules, which are 500 zen, or around 5 million ec on the exchange.  Most fleet ships require 4 of them.

Sir T, no permission is needed for guests of a starbase invite to use the general vendors.  Only the provisioned stuff is locked down.  Stuff like the fleet outfit, and doffs, can be purchased by anyone and are in effect unlimited stock.

I decided to re-roll and pay for a month of Gold.  Still sticking with science. Got to 22 before re-rolling, back to 14th now.  Rolled a Romulan too of course, not much to add except I love flying around in the TOS Bird of Prey.

EDIT: reading is hard and Red Alert bugs are old news.

The Nimbus ground zone has three fairly easy dailies as well that you could look at. There's a guy in the bar that gives them out.

Ooh yeah I forgot about those.  I was planning on going back to them after leveling up my Romulan.  That was a fun little zone.

Surlyboi, did you still need an Aegis set?  I completely forgot you asked for one.  Sorry.

My sector map got fucked up somehow. I can no longer see systems or system names on it, which was my primary means of navigation (right click on system and set course).

Is this a bug, or did I accidentally turn something off, and there's a way to fix it I can't find?

EDIT: Never mind. I did a space patrol mission, came back out, and it was fine. Bug it is.

I would really like to see a little more "X-COM" in the ground game and I would not mind some "EVE" hardcore in the space game.  I like the game so far, ran a tactics captain up to 22 before giving in to my alt char creation urges.

Yes you heard it here first..... ITS A BRAND NEW PLACE TO GRIND for!! WOOHOO!!!

New Features:
Dilithium Mine Fleet Holding

The fleet system has been expanded and players have access to a new Dilithium Mine holding.
Fleet Members can contribute to fleet projects to earn XP for their Dilithium Mine and unlock new tiers, just like with the Embassy Holding.
Can be compared to Embassy for time to progress.
The Fleet Dilithium Mine consists of a space map and an interior map with two parts.
Completing Tiers in the Dilithium Mine?s main track will cause the space map?s visuals to upgrade to the next tier.
The Interior ground map is unlocked at Dilithium Mine tier 1.
Players gain access to the exterior ground map once the Dilithium Mine reaches tier 2.
Like the Embassy, the Dilithium Mine has three tracks:
Dilithium Mine (main track)
This track gains XP and progresses by completing tiers from the two sub-tracks below.
Development (sub-track)
The Development sub-track gains XP by completing repeatable fleet projects. Once enough XP has been earned you will be given an Upgrade special project to unlock the next Development tier. Completing this Upgrade project will grant XP for the Dilithium Mine main track.
Trade (sub-track)
The Trade sub-track gains XP by completing repeatable fleet projects. Once enough XP has been earned you will be given an Upgrade special project to unlock the next Trade tier. Completing this Upgrade project will grant XP for the Dilithium Mine main track.
Provisioning
There is a single provisioning type for each sub-track (Trade and Development) as opposed to several types found in the Starbase and Embassy holdings. These Provisions are earned by completing fleet projects. Below are items that can be purchased with the two types of Provisioning:
Trade Personal Requisition Provisioning
(Ultra Rare) Advanced Engineering Armor Consoles Mk X to Mk XII
(Ultra Rare) Advanced Engineering RCS Consoles Mk X to Mk XII
Development Personal Requisition Provisioning
(Ultra Rare) Advanced Fleet Warp Cores Mk XII
(Ultra Rare) Advanced Fleet Singularity Warp Cores Mk XII
(Ultra Rare) Elite Fleet Warp Cores Mk XII
(Ultra Rare) Elite Fleet Singularity Warp Cores Mk XII
Fleet Rewards
Unlock perks for all fleet members by increasing tiers in your fleet?s main Dilithium Mine, Development and Trade tracks:
Dilithium Mine (Main Track): Below are some examples of the rewards unlocked by gaining Tiers in the Dilithium Mine track
Three tiers of Dilithium Input Discounts
Three tiers of the Dilithium Store Discounts (Contruction Project)
Daily Dilithium Mining Missions
Daily Ore Refining Mission
Trade (Sub-Track): Below are some examples of the rewards unlocked by gaining Tiers in the Trade sub-track
Three tiers of Item and Commodity Input Discounts
Two tiers of Improved Call Trade Freighter (reduces cooldown on Call Trade Freighter power)
Development (Sub-Track): Below are some examples of the rewards unlocked by gaining Tiers in the Development sub-track
Three tiers of high Dilithium and Energy Credit awarding Duty Officer assignments
Three tiers of Fleet Mark fleet project input discounts
Three tiers of special Miner Duty Officers

Ah, the three Nimbus III daily missions.

One is perpetually broken because all of the four potential quest trigger objects get stuck in a "permanent on" state and can't be used by anyone else.

One is a "tag X of randomly selected items" quest where one of the items you may be assigned to scan doesn't increment the quest, so ~50% of the time you can't complete it.

Yeah. Cryptic.

So, the latest "Buy 2, get one free" ship is the dreadnaught Warbird, otherwise known as the Scimitar, to no-ones surprise.

http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=930741

Quote
Required Rank: Vice Admiral
Faction: Romulan Republic
Hull Strength: 40,000
Shield Modifier: 1.1
Crew: 3,000
Weapons: 5 Fore, 3 Aft
Device Slots: 4
Hangar Bays: 1
1 Scorpion Fighter Hangar Pet
Base Turn Rate: 7 degrees per second
Impulse Modifier: 0.15
Bridge Officer Stations: 1 Commander Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Engineer, 1 Lieutenant Science, 1 Ensign Universal, 1 Lieutenant Commander Universal
Can Equip Cannons
Singularity Warp Core
Romulan Battle Cloaking Device
Singularity Abilities

The Scimitar-class most closely resembles the original model, designed for raw firepower.

This ship comes with a Cloaked Barrage console. The console briefly distributes your Singularity Core's energy to both your Cloaking and Weapon systems. Activating this console will allow you to fire your weapons while cloaked for a brief period of time. After this effect expires, your weapon power will be significantly drained.

Class-Specific Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above):

Console Modifications: 5 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 3 Science
+10 Weapon Subsystems, +5 Engine Subsystems
Console – Universal – Cloaked Barrage

The Falchion-class has an Engineering focus and gains two Engineering console slots at the cost of two Tactical console slots.

This ship comes with a Secondary Shields console. This potent defensive console creates a secondary layer of shielding around your ship that operates on a different frequency than standard shielding. These secondary shields will absorb damage before your primary shields or hull is damaged.

Class-Specific Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above):

Console Modifications: 3 Tactical, 4 Engineering, 3 Science
+10 Shield Subsystems, +5 Engine Subsystems
Console – Universal – Secondary Shields

The Tulwar-class has a Science focus and gains two Science console slots at the cost of two Tactical console slots.

This ship comes with a Singularity Distributor Unit console. While equipped, the Singularity Distributor Unit is capable of passively redirecting power from your Singularity Core to allow for shields to be up even while cloaked.

While equipped your vessel will suffer no Shield Power drain while Battle Cloak is active, additionally, your shield systems will not be brought offline. This console also helps to mask your ship's Singularity Power signature, diminishing the Singularity's impact on your ship's Cloaking Device.

Class-Specific Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above):

Console Modifications: 3 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 5 Science
+10 Auxiliary Subsystems, +5 Shield Subsystems
Console – Universal – Singularity Distributor Unit

The Cloaked Barrage, Secondary Shields, and Singularity Distributor Unit can be equipped on any Romulan Dreadnought Warbird. Together, they are the Advanced Scimitar Systems Set.

The two-piece set bonus gives the ship Rapid Maneuvering Thrusters, which increases the ship’s turn rate. In addition, it allows the Scimitar to maintain the turn bonus from cloaking after exiting cloak for the duration of their Cloaking Ambush.

The three-piece set bonus is Thalaron Pulse. This allows you to deliver a massive blast of Thalaron Radiation to all enemies in front of your ship. Due to the weapon's power, it requires twelve seconds to charge up before firing. During this charging period, enemies can potentially flee to avoid the attack. Any enemies that are affected will suffer continuous radiation damage and crew damage for 12 seconds after being hit. This cannot be used while cloaked, even with the Cloaked Barrage console active. Additionally, if your ship is destroyed while equipped with all three consoles, it will leave behind a cloud of Thalaron radiation. This radiation deals continuous crew damage to any ships within it.

Turns like an Excelsior before the maneuvering bonus from the 2 part console set. 5 tac slots. 5 forward guns. And a hanger bay with super special fighters (see the link) This thing was designed to print money.

They are all effectively the same ship, just different costumes and console layouts, so yeah. The Thalaron blast is what everyone has been jizzing about so it would be ridiculous if they all couldn't do it. Siting still for 12 seconds while it powers up doesn't seem like much fun to me though. I'll bet people are already crying that the Thalaron blast is useless in PVP.  Ohhhhh, I see.
