Thanks for the heads up on the GFWL requirements.  That's a guaranteed no-sale from me.

I have come to terms with DRM being in my media and it's not worth the fight anymore if it's a minor annoyance.  But GFWL is simply too cumbersome to me.  It ruined GTA4 for me... I was never really able to see why everyone hated it so much because I always got tired of spending 3-5 minutes logging into shit just to play.

Again, thanks.

Wow, adding in GFWL into it as well takes this game from a $5 steam sale job in 2011/2012 to a "not even bother".

Yeah, thanks for the heads-up

Likewise, I can't remember the last time I logged into Warhammer II because it ran through Steam and then you had to fiddle around with GFWL. I think I have another game that uses that abortion too - but I can't remember for the life of me what it is.

You just saved me 80 Au$.

Is the story or gameplay any better?

From what little SP I've done (about an hour+) the gameplay is more ambush oriented and you're usually fighting a group of splicers at once. Haven't been far enough to really comment on the story.

The MP is very addictive if you can tolerate all the hassle of matchmaking that goes with it.

I was going to wait for the 5 dollar steam sale, but I promised myself to never let GFWL touch my computer again.

Its fucked up, but I'm not even interested in stealing this game because of this. I guess the anti-piracy shit works.

Oh fuck. I remember trying to matchmake with DOW2 using GFWL. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with a video game. Sitting around for 20 minutes looking for a matchup, only to be faced against a rank 70 poopsocker and his friends - or people leaving on countdown.

Wrapped this up over the weekend.  I'm not sure why I had convinced myself that it was going to suck, but I ended up really enjoying it.  I'm even having a blast with the multiplayer.

Also the hidden bonus with the collectors edition is pretty awesome:

I haven't bought the game yet but I read on another forum that you can create an offline gfwl account and play without logging in to gfwl.

My experience with GFWL has been rather tolerable, in the sense that after a horrible install and setup process, you can pretty much leave it alone and never fuck with it again.  I can confirm offline play as well.  As a service, it sucks, but it has the decency to mostly leave you alone after that first session.  It's certainly not enough to prevent someone from buying a game because of it, imo.

I only just bought this game, haven't read the thread because of possible spoilers.

The windows live fucking bullshit I had to go through to initially play and now each time I start up the game is going to be the final nail in PC gaming.  There is no way I'll be buying another game that has this shit in it and it seems like Microsoft is trying to push it on everyone so I might as well just give up, buy a PS3 and play my games there because the frustration of trying to use a gamepad in an fps is now far less than what used to be the simple act of starting up my fucking pc games.

Fake edit: I see the last few posts in this thread are also about this, good.  And yes I know there is no point in complaining about this because it's just another annoyance they are going to ram down our throats whether we like it or not.  I am growing increasingly sympathetic to the unabomber.

I know GFWL is a bit of a pain to set up initially (had to do it for Fallout 3), but once set up, I had no real issue with Dirt 2 (for instance). Just put in the account info and select 'sign in automatically' and then forget it.

Do I like having YET ANOTHER (other than Steam) online verification 'service' go through making sure I'm on the up and up? Nope, of course not, but it seems that's just how its going to go from here on out.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Same with me gfwl really isn't that big a deal.  Frankly though this game isn't looking good enough to warrant buying regardless.  Maybe super cheapy steam.

Honestly, the only terrible experience I've had with GFW is Fallout 3, which was only partially GFW's fault.  The interplay with the Steam first-time install failing on itself, needing to patch Fallout 3 through its own crappy patcher for wharever reason, and needing to update GFW multiple times was such a clusterfuck that it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

I still think it's stupid that it has to patch after I start the game up (which is also something that annoys me to no end on 360) when it has some external application as well, but it wasn't a nightmare when I played Red Faction late last year.

I downloaded the DOW2 demo and after spending 5 minutes trying to figure out how to even run it I uninstalled.

From what I've read, instead of an evil industrialist objectivist male (or evil opportunist criminal male, depending on who you saw actually running Rapture), we've got an evil religious socialist female in the main villain role.

Again, everything I've heard makes it sound like a fan mod rather than a fully fledged sequel.

Just spotted this on sale for AU$30 (for the special edition - down from AU$150. I almost bought the PC version, but checked the back of the box because I remembered "hey - there was something about the DRM on this one", saw GFWL listed, then thought "fuckit" and bought the 360 version instead.

Tossing up if it'd be worth going ack and getting a second one for the multiplayer - is it any good?

Having played through BioShock 2 (Xbox 360) and its Minerva's Den DLC, I actually enjoyed BioShock 2. Lamb isn't as strong a villain as Ryan / Fontaine and yes there is a stretch to fit her into a pre-existing universe, but the story was solid and I enjoyed the ability to set up traps before sending my Little Sister off to harvest Adam from a corpse. It's a bit of a change for an FPS to have you entrench a position in your own way rather than just fight through waves of opponents.

The part where you play as a Little Sister was very nicely done and a great change of pace. Overall the DLC was worth the points: a nicely contained story, even if the OMG SHOCK TWIST ending was fairly foreseeable.

But then I think I like Rapture as a game environment and as a setting.
