For those still keeping score, Gizka just incremented the build to 0.8! Then another minor bug cropped up  cry. Anyway, it's basically done but for a few tweaks and language testing. So...I still hope they'll make an xmas release.

Thanks for the update. I'm hopeful myself. I wonder if we'll see a minor spike in KOTOR2 sales when Gizka is done.

Heh, yeah, I intend to buy myself a copy of KOTOR2 once they finally release.

I bought a copy for $20 last year and played through about half the game just to check it out. It's a good game (because I never got to the cut ending stuff). Should be great playing through it when it's finally finished.

I need to play it yet as well, as a big fan of the original. I became so disinterested though after briefly renting it on Xbox (horrible decision since I'm used to PC resolutions and the small UI drove me nuts) and a few demoralizing reviews. This update would certainly be the kick in the ass I need. (Deja vu, even, since the Deus Ex update is a welcomed one as well.)

Yeah, I bought and played through the original which I enjoyed, right up till the ending where the FMV refused to play. I read about the issues with the sequel, so got hold of a ...backup to check out, but never even bothered to install it. I figure that I'll just buy the original and LA can have my money once Gizka finishes their game for them.

I bought KOTOR twice - once on XBox and once for the computer.  KOTOR2, on the other hand, I never purchased, and I doubt I'll be buying KOTOR2 even once Gizka finishes it.  If I can play it for free with their mods to finish it, I will, but I won't be paying for the unfinished game Lucasarts is trying to sell me.

As disappointing as the lack of a coherent ending was... it's still a good game 90%+ of the way through. With all the interactions with your party members that are resolved a good deal before the ending, it's worth the $20.

Necroftw.

I have been keeping an eye on Gizka. I used to be a "when it's done" kind of guy, but since the leak, the project has really soured. Supposedly it's being worked on, they're calling their next version release candidate one. The only visible progress in months (oh the holidays....again) was a tester who is about to quit releasing 60 bugs (they were down to a couple).

The last progress update was from October 2007! Forums have filled with the circling wagons of the fanbois, the annual polls that deluded souls still fill out with such gems as "It'll release in a couple months!". And in between the fire and flames, you get a few passionate pleas with the team that get batted down faster than the expectations of this mod: http://forums.team-gizka.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4579

I'm going to call this one dead, I think gaming journalists  why so serious? should pick up on that post as the current state of the mod.

If anyone remembers it anymore. Tell me why anyone should bother waiting for the 'final' version rather than just find the leaked version? I wonder how bad the remaining bugs are.

This one has been dead a loooong time.  Shame really, as KOTOR 2 had so much promise.  An official XPAC with deleted content would probably sell pretty well.

What would be the right medium to question the state of a KOTOR2 mod outside of their official forums?  Ohhhhh, I see.

Oh well, they can launch it alongside SWOR and see who cares anymore.

I checked out their forum. It's the usual dev-community mix of fucktards and total fanbois, some of whom get cartoon-indignant when they aren't called "fangirls" instead. Reminded me of the Mythic Warhammer Alliance/VN forums in a lot of ways. Peope like that need to die in a variety of fires.

Edit - oh yeah, I finally bought KOTOR2 a few months back when it hit deep bargain bin prices. I may get around to installing it at some stage, but I've got too much other stuff to play first. If Gizka ever finish their mod it may bump it up the "to play" list.

Dashus is playing coy (surprise), but he is stirring some interest with a post he made two weeks ago. It had a "when it's done" smiley with the subject "Two weeks". Which was yesterday, thread goes wild with speculation, he plays coy again. Finally he links to this future update for 4/4/09, a youtube labeled "Final Trailer". He also mentioned to watch for the day when builds are generally released.

Could just be more hype (which would be unsurprising from Gizka, they're obnoxious), but it could mean the RC is done, which means first public release. Guess we'll know on Saturday. But...will anyone care?

We have a release: http://www.deadlystream.com/showthread.php?t=339

Not by Team Gizka, but rather a different set of modders. As you can imagine, there's a lot of drama. In any case, after four long years, there is finally a more-or-less definitive KOTOR 2 experience to enjoy.

TG is just Dashus, and he basically said he's done with it as of last month. Too bad he won't release the latest build. He reeks of douchebag.

I quit playing KoTR 2 after the battle with the horribly stupid confrontation with the "void in the force" bad guy. I shall reinstall and try it out with the patch. Im assuming that is the start of the obviously unfinished portion of the game?

I'm not sure I give a fuck anymore.

I do know that Team Gizka is a giant pile of douche. So is Obsidian for creating this whole situation in the first place.

Have you played KOTOR 2? Obsidian's "pile of douche" proclivities notwithstanding, KOTOR 2 is still a masterpiece in the genre and THE most literate, sophisticated, approach to the Star Wars mythos that ever was and will ever be. For fans of both, especially those still keening from the dearth of party-based srpgs these days, this is worth a near infinity of rigamarole.

KotOR2 had real potential and an awesome philosophical view about how both the Light and Dark paths could be evil. Even going so far as to say the Force itself is evil and should be destroyed. That's heavy shit right there if you're into Star Wars. Far heavier than the normal fare at the very least.

I still don't buy pinning the problems with the ending on Obsidian. Almost all of the stuff from the "real" ending is *in the game files* still, including a fair amount of voiceover; if the problem was simply Obsidian failing to write a coherent ending that stuff wouldn't exist at all. My money's on LucasArts either forcing it out the door before it was ready or refusing to approve the content because it was too dark. Or both.

Yes, but I was responding to the Obsidian blaming in this thread.

Im surprised they were even allowed to reinterpret the force as something not completely stupid. I tried to play through to test the new content, but got bored and started Aion.

The reason I blame Obsidian isn't because I consider them talentless or malicious - it's because they don't have the power or prestige to resist demands from people to release their stuff earlier than it should be released. If Bioware had done Kotor2 (or NWN2 for that matter) both games would have been released in a properly finished state.

If it happened once, I'd understand. At some point, some blame needs to be laid at their feet for being too ambitious given the restraints of their overlords.

Since it's only happened twice (albeit out of two), I'm still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and definitely plan on checking out the spy game and the new fallout.

So I actually reinstalled and started playing last weekend with the new mod. I had to jump through a few hoops to get it working on Vista but as long as I'm careful about saving frequently it's more or less OK now.

I've had a couple of pieces of the previously cut-out content show up - mostly cutscene conversations between party members when I'm traveling somewhere in the Ebon Hawk and it's been a lot of fun so far.

Well, I'm nearing the end now and I've just played through my first piece of definitely new restored content.  There was a little quest where if you were attacked three times by the HK50 assassin droids then HK47 would be able to track their origin with some transponder or something that you picked up somewhere.

In the original game that quest never actually went anywhere but now I just (sort of unexpectedly and awkwardly) found myself playing HK47 on his own and going through the actual HK50 factory.  It's really, really good.  Cutting it out must have broken some of the devs hearts because there is an absolute ton of really funny writing and voice acting all the way through the module.

If the rest of the restored content is even half as good then I think it's worth another look by anyone who liked KOTOR1 and was horribly disappointed by the sequel.
