So my main is a cow shaman on a PVP server, but I also have a human pally alt on an RP server, just to change things up a bit.  While everyone on the PVP server is the same breed of loltard regardless of character race, it's understandably quite different on the RP server.

So let me just say here, everyone roleplaying a dwarf or night elf can go die in a motherfucking brothel fire.

Shove your shitty faux-Scottish accent up your ass, dwarves.  Quit saying "Ach!" in every third sentence.  Quit telling me about your motherfucking ale.  And quit doing it in general chat, you god damned faggots.  The sort of fucking fruit who indulges in this just wishes he could drink more than two beers without throwing up.

And night elves.  God damn I hate night elves.  Seriously, every single person with a night elf toon on an RP server is a complete homo.  If it starts to rain, some palmfucking catass night elf will start yammering in chat about the wonder of nature.  If there's a low level female toon running around Goldshire, some skeezy night elf 20 levels higher and with nothing better to do will be blathering and blathering away at her like a sexually stunted 32-year old trying to pick up high school chicks.

I really hate these two races, or rather the people playing them.  They're all a bunch of Salvatore-reading mangina cyberwhore pole-smoking shitbags.  I'll say it again:  Roleplaying is like watching Star Trek.  When done well, it's a fun nerdy guilty pleasure.  But putting up with the legion of degenerates in pointy plastic ears who have made a lifestyle out of it can try anyone's patience.

Honestly, the game's open to anyone, even those who really suck at roleplaying.  And while a RP server will have less retards, it still has some.  Plus, the periodic visitors whenever some other server is down, looking to stir up trouble.  It all happens on the general and LFG chat channels, too.  Just turn them off.

Closest I came to a good RP experience in WoW was a couple months ago when a friend decided to set up a guild and set up a story arc; we were the crew of a ship, lost our lives to some curse and became undeads, and we were looking for replacement bodies or to end the curse (eventually to be accomplished by re-rolling BE's come the expansion).  Unfortunately, not everyone who we recruited was good at tying themselves into that background, or even roleplaying that well, and eventually we all lost interest; keeping the story on track and pushing it forward was becoming difficult.  Too bad; we were using Lore to speak Thelassian and had the whole guild structured around the whole ship crew idea.

I've had pretty good luck with RP servers, sure there is still a wide range of players out there with varying degrees of RP proficiency, but I've met some good folks and had a lot of good RP experiences. And yes, one of my characters is a Night Elf 

And I tend to like RPing Dwarves, though I don't see too many of them. They tend to lighten things up a bit, as one pitfall of even the best RPers is a tendency to get overserious at times. A good drunk Dwarf can really set a festive mood.

I quite like dwarves - the only alliance race I enjoy.

Look unlike EQ/ EQ2 - which in my experience have strong player communities with mature conduct - we know this is possibly WoW's single achilles heel.  Players in this game suck so fucking bad I cannot stand it sometimes.  It's my only real gripe about this game.  Currently, I have turned off guild chat - good guild - but a good guild in a game like wow still has a an overflowing stock of ... jerks.

But they are kids - the stuff they say - you know.  One kid said he wished another would get cancer.  And so on.  As adults we exposed to this child banter full force.  They are just kids - problem is - we are adults.  Yes, we have adult morons too - but their style is very different.

It's the one reason I am tempted to try Vanguard.  WoW's player community can be crushing sometimes. 

I remember in EQ sometimes there would be "open raids" where it was a pug group of literally 40 guys scheduled in advance.  You would NEVER do that in this game.  It would be a clusterfuck of ineffable proportions.

Strange question, but how "mature" was EQ's server population when the game first came out, and how much of this would also be a reflection of the times, where MMOGS were pretty much limited to UA, and most of the people playing them in the early days of EQ / AC were still something of your computer / roleplay geek, rather then the Bnet Kiddies / Leet FPS players getting into MMOGS nowadays.

I'm not really having issues with that kind of thing.  Trolls in Warcraft speak like that, or they're supposed to.  RPers are going to do that, come hell or high water; that's practically all they CAN do in a game as constrained as WoW.  Dwarves talk with scottish accents, Orcs are going to be all ORC SMASH,  Night Elves all say "By the grace of Elune" every twenty-seven seconds, et cetera.  Big deal.  I don't see the complaint.  It's kind of cheesy, but I'll gladly take "Verily we doth camp this spawn, in His Majesty's Name" over "lol Chuk Noris jokes ruuuel lolol" any day.  Is it just that you don't like to see people play generic characters, or that you don't like the way Blizzard designed the characters, or what?

I don't understand what the problem is here.  Are you hating RPing in general (in which case, yeah, what are you doing on these servers?), or just claiming that the RPing in WoW isn't done to an acceptable level?  Because if you're expecting these guys to be rifling off epic sagas of heroism and valor just kind of off the top of their heads, or whatever, then I've got to know what game you were playing before where that kind of thing was common.  As far as I've seen, RPing in WoW is like RPing in any other context, from tabletop to MMO: mostly it's just a bunch of guys trying to pretend they're knights or whatever.  It's a half step up from running around a playground pretending to be Superman.  They're not trained actors or writers, they don't have much control over the setting, they're not going to put together something that's very entertaining to you, unless you're playing along (and I suspect that most of us aren't).  Is there some treasure trove of RPing somewhere that's actually entertaining to spectators, that everyone else is comparing WoW to, or what?
