Sorry, my reply may have masked this question.

Whats a good site for game industry job searches?

Gamasutra. Or just visit game development studio Web sites.

I am more or less looking for somewhere to view local game companies.

What's local? Craigslist works if you happen to be in one of the major tech cities it servers.

You mean to tell me that Craigslist is for more than just finding hookers?  why so serious?

No one ever really responded so I thought I would try one more time.
Anyone have any recommendations on renfaires that allow onsite camping, are so good/big they take a weekend to enjoy, and would be worth travelling for?

Nope. But if you want an event where you can camp and spend (up to) a whole week there, try this: http://www.airventure.org/

Whatever happened with kids trick&treating, going door to door (with an adult etc)?  Out here it's all bring the kids to the mall and the office where they get candy.   Looks very weird. Is this just a US thing?

We got around 18 last night.  Quite a poor showing for the area, but the weather was....Scottish.

Elena loved it and later on Mummy and I got very, very drunk.

I got half my staples taken out on the first post-op doctor visit, but they had to open the major incision near the bottom to let it drain and heal from the inside out, so now I've got this hole near the bottom of my abdomen.  This would be really cool if it were someone else, but it's kind of creepy when looking at open holes on your own body.  Still need to take regular breaks to walk and/or lay down for a bit.  Got another visit to the doctor on Thursday and should get the remainder of my staples out then.  Ugh.
You get used to it.  My canyon freaked me out at first, too.  Then it became a fun game.  "Hey, roomie who can see what they're doing!  Could you put this entire bottle of gauze strips into my abdominal cavity?  Thanks!"  Try torturing the hubby with it. Grin

I love religious weirdos.  My office, i.e. me and my staff, dressed up for Halloween today.  I've already had a comment or two about how patient families "don't celebrate Halloween" and the day isn't even one hour in.  Seriously?  We're dressed up as a caterpillar and some butterflies for fuck's sake.  I probably should explain to them what All Hallows Eve is really about, but it wouldn't do any good.
Halloween is the only holiday I really celebrate.  It's not like I go crazy about it, but I enjoy the season.  Every year I get a bit more gothy.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

I don't even know what it means to celebrate Halloween.  All I know is that it was an excuse to A) get candy, and B) dress up as a ninja.  Two of my favorite things.

So I live in Denmark now, and Halloween is starting to catch on.  Funny thing is that it is so new and fresh, that the costumes haven't made it to a very sophisticated stage yet.  It's all witches, warlocks and devils.

Door to Door still happens here, but we're the backwards Midwest.  My sister tells me her new hometown of liberal hippieville Portland does the mall thing because they're scared of child predators and people poisoning candy.  (Despite the ONE occurrence of that happening at any time in the last 40 years was a guy using it to cover-up the murder of his (step?)son.)   You'd think they'd look at the larger picture and laugh because it implies they all suspect their neighbors (and their neighbors suspect themselves ) to be child murders.  If that's truly what they believe, shouldn't they move? Oh irony.

Let the daughter run around on her own for the first time with friends.  She's 13 and her cousin of an age moved away so no reason to drag her along with the nephew who's 4 and my 8-year-old.   We had a much better time not having to listen to the older kids complain the younger were taking too long.

Saw some teenagers with actual creativity.  A group of 14-15 year-olds who went as White Mage, an Anime Schoolgirl, Charlie Sheen (complete with "Winning" T-shirt) and - this floored me - Bernie from Weekend at Bernie's.     I'm pissed I didn't get a good shot of them, but they were impressed an old man like me knew who they were.  White Mage in particular was amazed. Heh.

Child predators is probably a somewhat legitimate reason to be concerned.

Sure it is.  The statistics may say that it's highly unlikely that something will happen to your child while trick or treating, but the funny thing about statistics if they mean fuck all if it happens to your kid.  It only takes once and things are changed forever.

There's more to it than just that.  I personally don't want any of those folks even knowing what my kid looks like.  It's highly unlikely that anything would happen on Halloween with parents present but even just a little foot in the door of knowledge could be a problem.  Have you ever done a search on one of the sexual predator databases for your house?  You would be surprised how many hits come up.

I have.  I'm not concerned.

I also know that if I mooned a group of people as a high schooler who'd just had his 18th there's also a good chance I'd be on a sexual offender list for public indecency and lewd behavior.

You can't protect your kids.  If something bad is going to happen, it's going to happen.  You can teach them to be mindful and to watch out and stay out of bad situations.  There is such a thing as too much caution and parents who freak the fuck out are why 90% of kids sit on their asses inside all day getting fat and then lack the social skills to be successful in life.   Y'know, little things like calling on the damn phone or talking face-to-face instead of sending a E-mail or text.  No, it's not faster he's right across the damn building, get up and go over there!

erm.. not that I'm experiencing such a problem.  why so serious?
