I honestly just can't stand Cornell's voice.  I know a lot of people dig it, but not me.  Black Hole Sun is one of my least favorite songs ever.

Black Hole Sun was so overplayed. My favorite version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltc5EsuyBh4

Or just listen to these:

He's really grown as a vocalist since the Soundgarden days, way more nuanced without losing any of the power.

Hahahahaha.  I point and laugh!

Anyway, get a book, read it and find a copy to play around on.   If you're learning AutoCAD (and if you aren't WHY?)  Paul Aubin's Mastery series are all very good.  Find version 2008 or later as that has most of the newest features.  2011 or 2012 added some nice efficiency tools but nothing you NEED to learn.

What exactly are you needing to learn CAD for?

I'm trying to find a job in renewable energy microgeneration, and it's stipulated as a requirement for a lot of technical positions. The sector is closely tied to buildings and housing, so I think theres a lot of design required. I don't know any CAD other than AutoCAD so that would've been my first choice  awesome, for real.

There's LOADS more.  It all depends on how cheap the company is being or how tied to C&C they are.

The basics from AutoCAD should translate to anything except the most esoteric softwares.. aka the ones still written so they run in a DOS window and advertise 'new features' like POLYLINES! Ooh!. ( LIke Arris swamp poop )

But yes, there's tons of videos on Youtube and around the 'net and the best way is honestly getting a copy of the software, a book and running through it. Don't be afraid to fiddle and know where to ask questions.  The AUGI forums or the AutoDesk official forums are two fantastic resources. CADTutor.net is also a good place to find information.

The hardest stuff to learn is some of the nitty-gritty stuff like Annotative scales, text and objects and dynamic blocks.   Once you get past Line, Offset, Copy Trim and Fillet and know how to use osnaps (NEVER USE 'NEAREST' AS A RUNNING OSNAP!!!) and polar/ ortho mode you'll know 90% of what you need day to day.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

Black Hole Sun was my least favorite track off of Superunknown, but how can you not like Cornell's voice if you like anything remotely related to '70s Hard Rock?  Cornell is pretty much the epitome of that style.

Also, I think Sky and I are the only two regular posters here from Upstate....  though one of us is decidedly more Upstate than the other.   Ohhhhh, I see.

I don't particularly like much '70s hard rock.  Maybe that's the issue.   why so serious?

No, that's completely understandable then.  Chris Cornell is basically what you get if scientists tried to engineer the perfect '70s Hard Rock/Metal frontman.  If that's not to your taste, then that's just fine.

They never got back to me.  They would have left you hanging, too, I bet. cry

As to the stuff pages back, yes, I had an abscess.  They left it open so it could drain and heal from the bottom up.  It was exceptionally scary looking.  Much worse than it felt.  It wasn't all that painful, surprisingly, except when I tried to use my abdominal muscles which they had to cut a bit of to get all the infected tissue.  (PS - you use your abdominal muscles for movements you didn't even know you made.)

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Just saw two scrawny deer wander into the backyard, head straight for the apples trees and circle the cages, tails twitching. Denied! Then they went for the neighbor's blueberries planted on the goddamned property line. Win!

So I watched Evil Dead 2 again this evening.  I couldn't help but chuckle at how very young Bruce Campbell looked.

Did Renfest today.  I'm so sore.  Got the last little bits of my costume together though.  A mask, custom gloves ordered, and a pendant from rattran's company's booth.

Some dude was there this time, but it wasn't him.

My in-laws do all the french/Indian war and early American re-ennactments like the big one coming up for the 250th anniversary of Tippacanoe.
I miss going to good renfaires. What are like the top five or top ten in the country currently? I figure Rattran should have a good lead on that. Like faires worth traveling to and big enough to make a weekend out of?

Texas is special, my company sends a drunk guy there these days, as I'm not giving up North Carolina (where I have comfy living, a decent crowd, and regulars) for Texas, with no living on site, 20% off the top to the festival, and nothing approaching civilization for miles. It's probably not windy and a high of 60 in Texas today though.

Top 5 fairs depends what you want; stage shows, crafts, music, or historical authenticity

<edit> All my poker buddies are in Texas, so I do miss out on that. It's all the old leather workers, I'm the youngest by about 20 years.

Trying to decide if it's worth it to drive out to the Texas Rennfest. I drove up to Dallas for a couple days last week and driving to Big Bend next week so I'm not sure I want to add another drive in there.

I love religious weirdos.  My office, i.e. me and my staff, dressed up for Halloween today.  I've already had a comment or two about how patient families "don't celebrate Halloween" and the day isn't even one hour in.  Seriously?  We're dressed up as a caterpillar and some butterflies for fuck's sake.  I probably should explain to them what All Hallows Eve is really about, but it wouldn't do any good.

I don't celebrate Halloween, but that's because I'm usually at the GA/FL game. Also, I hate other people's children.

I don't think anyone "celebrates" Halloween.  They just dress up and get drunk/party or take their kids trick or treating.

And surely you know the christian heritage of the Yule log, BW.  I am a bigger fan of the Yule Goat, myself.  It always roasts up nicely.

Really, really getting tired of giving myself Lovenox shots (the bloodthinner).  My poor waist is polka-dotted with little bruises and red dots.

My mom headed home this morning, since I'm well enough to do everything but drive.  I got half my staples taken out on the first post-op doctor visit, but they had to open the major incision near the bottom to let it drain and heal from the inside out, so now I've got this hole near the bottom of my abdomen.  This would be really cool if it were someone else, but it's kind of creepy when looking at open holes on your own body.  Still need to take regular breaks to walk and/or lay down for a bit.  Got another visit to the doctor on Thursday and should get the remainder of my staples out then.  Ugh.
