I'm gone a week and all you can muster up here in Useless Conversation is a measly 2.5 pages of chitchat?  /sad

Anyways, out of the hospital and back home since Friday night.  Doctor's couldn't do the easy express version so instead I get the traditional operation type.  Not fun having a 6" vertical incision on my abdomen, in addition to the two larger laparoscopy incision.  Got to spend 5 days in the hospital and a longer recovery so I'm glad my bosses are cool and I can work from home.  Already started some of that today.  Have to wait until this coming Friday though to get the staples out, which sucks because the ones in a small incision near my waistline are sticking up a few mm and it's just ugh to brush that spot.  I'm on painkillers, anitbiotics, bloodthinner (yay for needles and shots you give yourself!) plus mundane things like anti-nausea, anti-gas and dulcolax. 

I just want all the pain and bother to be done with though.

As for conversations.. since adult topics generate more pages these days, how about refinancing?

I just looked at refinancing my place last night because the USAA 15 year is down at 3.07% (and my 30 is at 5 3/4%).  It was a wash on the monthly payment ($966)  but meant I'd own my house 7 years earlier.  For giggles I looked at another 30 as well and at 4% I'd cut my monthly payment by 35% if I went that route.

Damnit, I don't want to stay in this house but saving all that money in either situation is really appealing. It takes, what, 5 years to make back the closing costs, etc?

I was looking at a refi about a month ago. My problem is the transaction fees, though as you say, that balances out soon enough. I could also knock 7 years off, from 17 down to 10, for around $100 more a month. Unfortunately my escrow holds down any savings from extending the period, it would take way too long to balance off the fees. Also, I don't have the money for the fees, heh. I bought cheap, so I'm happy with my payment, so the 10yr option is wicked tempting.

Can you put a dressing or a tegaderm patch over the staples sticking up so you arent brushing against them?

We've only been in our current house three years. We've refinanced twice already for lower rates. We have never paid closing costs.

It's just a little blurb (from breitbart, no less ) and I haven't read the original study, but this is definitely an interesting phenomenon.  I suspect that socioeconomic issues may play a role.  I'm not sure how they handled that in the study but the sample was from an inner city school with much higher violence levels.  Regardless, it will certainly help in my personal crusade against high fructose corn syrup.

Well, at least pathology got to have some fun with my surgery - apparently they couldn't find any tissue from my left ovary at first, leading to questions about whether I'd had it removed in my previous laparoscopy (nope- the ectopic was on my right side), but they eventually found "some" of the tissue.  The good news for all of that is that my condition was still at the pre-cancerous stage and no further treatment will be needed.

So what did they give you for the pain?

I've become pretty good at not touching the staples along my waist, it was more the band of my pants that was causing a problem at first.  And now the incision is well on the way to healing so touching the staples isn't painful any longer.

I got vicoden to take at night for pain and 600mg of ibuprofen for during the day, but I hadn't been taking that if I could help it.  Especially not after I forgot to eat after taking the first dose of the day the other morning and threw up my antibiotic, the ibuprofen and another pill because my stomach was empty.  But I think the low-level pain was getting me down so I'm going to start taking ibuprofen right after breakfast and see how that goes.  Plus managing to turn onto my side last night and sleep a bit like that was a huge help, I think.  I woke up feeling tons better this morning.  How can people sleep on their backs?  That's just not normal at all.

Yeah my horizontal incision was right on my pants line. Even wearing boxers/pajamas killed me when I got home.

You definitely have to eat before taking the antibiotics and stuff! Same thing (vomiting) happened to me last week, so I ended up back in the hospital for another 4 day stay while taking IV antibiotics.

Have you been able to eat normal foods?
And thats definitely good news about no cancer and no further treatment being needed.

Yeah, I was only on a liquid diet for the first day, but I've been taking it careful and easing back into full meals.  Right now it's more about having an appetite than worrying about what I'm eating.

Today someone asked to be removed from the list using a reply all.  Then someone asked why they sent this reply all and also asked to be removed from the list; using reply all.  Now there's a lot of people being asked to be removed from this list using reply all and others asking that they not use reply all by using reply all themselves.  I'm pretty sure this is going to persist the entire day.

Well, with this sort of initial study you're better off looking at a focused group that is similar, in my opinion. Plus you want a group that is prone to violence to see if there is an effect.  Next they would need tol look at other groups and a large homogenous  group to compare.  And as an Irishman I take of fence at being called a honky.

I don't know how similar recovering from a csection is to what you've had done, but walking (which I really didn't feel like doing a bit!) helped me feel better.  They got me up the next morning, and I hobbled down the hall a few times that day. My first walk after I got home, I went past two houses.  Not fast walks, not a long walks, but every two-three hours I'd spend a few minutes ambling along.

In contrast, after I had shoulder surgery, I didn't walk at all for a few days (contrary to advice).  I felt like shit longer, and suspect that's why - even though the csections hurt more than shoulder surgery, and for much longer.
