I'm both disgusted and drooling at the thought of this thing. 1,250 calories, 2750mg of sodium.
The amount of sodium in processed food is staggering.

That's a lot of salt! The calories, eh. Don't eat one every day. But there should be a way to make that way less salty, unless they're trying to compensate for all the sugar? edit: (oops there was another page to this thread, heh)

If you have well-functioning kidneys and a solid water intake, sodium is no big deal. The only time I worry about sodium is with someone that is hypertensive or if they have volume issues (right side heart problems etc).
As young as most people here are, salt (particularly sodium) is a non-issue.

Oh Nebu, you japing cad. Good to know, though. Does beer and diet coke count as water intake? In Useless Conversation, I planted my first yard tree, honeycrisp apple. Love digging in NY soil, a 5' diameter 1-1/2' deep hole yielded about 8 gallons (over one and a half 5 gallon bucketfuls) of rocks 2"+. Also found out why my yard sits about a foot proud of all the surrounding yards (that flood an inch in spring): hard fill. Also got a few handfuls of rusted bolts and broken glass along with a footlong rusty bolt. No doubloons.

I'm really, really jonesing for honeycrisps. I don't expect to get a lot out of the tree (and nothing for the first three years anyway), but it should be cool in a few years. Have to get a second to be a pollination partner, I'm not familiar with Liberty or Empire which seem to be the best two choices. Or maybe a manchurian crabtree.

I planted a little white peach tree in the fall of 2008 and last summer I had a metric shittonne of perfect, sweet white peaches. Still have a gallon freezer bag of sliced ones in the freezer. This year, I'm expecting less (forgot to spray with neem oil for peach leaf curl in the fall), but I still saw a couple babies coming on the tree.

I had one of those IHOP creations. Was sweet but nothing special. I won't be having it again knowing how High Octane it is.

My tree at my old San Diego house yielded 80lbs of peaches one year. People at work were VERY happy about that. We even made peach cobbler from them and it was quite damn tasty. Nothing like eating food you've grown yourself (or, watered the tree to grow for you).

So, new set of interviews set up for Thursday afternoon. One at 3pm and one at 4pm at the same company. It's funny how the first thing the other person asked me was if I was aware of just were the city this office is located is, since it's about an hour's drive (~40 miles away). I said yeah, I knew just how far the drive would be and it was cool with me. All I'm thinking is "HELLOOOO! This is Chicagoland we're talking about! If you aren't willing to drive then why are you in this greater metro area?"

Hmm, can't find any place better to put this... Anyone good at designing business cards? I have a job title change coming in the next month or so, and I've been meaning to pick up the "nice" cards, but I suck at design, so I'd like a second opinion before I actually put the order in.

Good luck with that. I'm a little bummed my new job is an extra 20mins away (going from a 25min commute OR LESS to 45 mins) but it's worth it!

I don't know where you are in Chicagoland, but when I was in Naperville/Aurora I found the train beats driving by a large margin. No traffic. Just a nice relaxing ride where you can either read or nod off. I even took the water taxi down the Chicago River. It was pretty sweet. And driving would have taken close to an hour in traffic where the train was like 35 minutes. Plus it's Chicago, so it's all tollways anyway. You might as well spend that money on a train pass. Good luck on your interviews.

I shouldn't have said second opinion; that implies I have a design in mind.
Basically looking for someone who's good at this sort of design stuff and is bored...you know, placement, color and font choice, etc.

Heh, when I commuted downtown, it was two hours from door-to-desk one way. An hour's drive isn't going to bother me too much at this point in time. Except I'm going from Lake in the Hills to Lisle. No trains, unfortunately. I loved Metra when I was going downtown though, extra hour of sleep every morning. :D I shouldn't have said second opinion; that implies I have a design in mind.

Hmm? Do you have complete freedom to design the card layout or does your company have a basic template to work with?

Probably not me, being that I worked at Crane's and my idea of "proper" business cards involve a copper plate and linen card stock. Honestly, I'd go simple and elegant.

Last weekend I attended a fire scene assessment course. The most awesome part was seeing this contraption the local training officer rigged to demonstrate how people claiming a fire started because of a dropped cigarette are full of shit: a cigarette with the lit end stuck in some surgical tubing, connected to a container filled with aerosolized gasoline. Watching someone take a few tokes through a cigarette from a container full of explosive fumes was fucking awesome.

Are you sure? I think I saw both Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone pull off the lighting of gasoline with a cigarette. Maybe Patrick Swayze too.

Stain-grade boards to fully trim a room is not cheap, especially with 5 doors + a large window. Dammit, I finally had enough money to replenish my woodpile.

Here is an idea of what I have right now. FYI, the card is actually white, but I couldn't use a flash so it's a bit dim. Fairly sure the font is TNR, with the middle fields below the name italicized: Heh, ideas appreciated. At the very least I should take out the fax number; I've seen our fax machine used twice in about 6 months.

Here's a protip: If you have only been driving a car for two weeks and during a road trip it tells you it has 70 miles until the tank is empty, don't believe it. If you do, you might end up running out of gas in a desert river gorge with no cell-phone service.

I recommend that you use exactly what you posted here (except actually put your name where it says "name", etc.). A few ninjas would also go a long way in telling them you mean business. My gas guage (old school style) has used approximately 2/3rds a tank when it is at the half way mark. It's kind of annoying.

Gas gauge on my old pickup didn't work at all, I had to estimate usage by milage and usage patterns. Only ran out of gas once, early on, and that calibrated the system.
