I played EQ1 for a while last year, it was actually pretty fun. I quit right before they got sold off to the Russians so I have no idea what it is like now.

I would offer to log in and give you some free plat, but you probably aren't on the same server and I can't be arsed to install a year worth of patches.

I never actually played it before, so maybe I'll give it a try.  Expect me back in 20 minutes complaining about the graphics or something.

The graphics are dated, but the benefit to that is that you can run multiple copies/accounts on even a slow (by today's standards) computer. If you continue playing past level 50, it is worth it to pay for one month just to get the auto-grant AA points up to level 85 (or 90 or 95 if they have upped it since I quit).

I played, was it project 1999? for a bit a few years back. One of my favorite experiences was just playing a human monk with a beetle eye.

My foot is pretty jacked up. My left arm is gonna have a sick bruise tomorrow. My right arm is pretty gnarly. Pretty sure I have some bruised bones, but nothing is broken and I'm functional, so all things considered I'm OK.

no worries, I am having fun intentionally not aiming for anything fancy, just a necro with a merc healer running around solo, only thing I equip are the things I loot.  *If* I stick around for a bit, I will probably look at buying some mana regen gear... the waiting on mana thing... forgotten how fun that was.

Graphics are dated, but man some really cool zone designs.

The good thing is that as a necro you get health to mana spells pretty early that work very well. My regular play group was a bunch of necros, a Dk and me as a Druid. I was the one holding things up in the mana front.

Ice.

Can't recommend ice enough.

Of course, sounds like you'll have to fill a bathtub with it....

But seriously, ice and cold on it for the first 48 hours. It'll make a huge difference in recovery time.

And damn, man. Be careful. That could have been a lot worse than some nasty bruises...

In Slidell, LA for the work week, 30 min ish from New Orleans.  Just had me some blackened catfish and alligator sausage for dinner DRILLING AND MANLINESS  Being honest though if someone had just handed me the gator sausage I would have called it pork /shrug.

I have no interest in seeing bourbon street and all that crap, but any non big city things people can recommend?  I am gonna try and do a swamp boat tour.

As for seafood, I used to live in coastal maine and now live in nor cal relatively close to ocean so getting amazing seafood isn't a high priority.

There's actually some really cool old architecture and history in the French Quarter, I wouldn't write it off.  Also, some of the cemetery tours can be cool.

I agree with Ghost, touristy or not the French Quarter was totally worth seeing. If you don't want the drunken hoopla, just go during the day. I was stuck working most of the time I was last there, but I'm glad I got to spend a little time touring that part of town (about 8 years ago). One of the highlights was discovering that you could go in to the Oyster Bar owned by Dickie Brennan's next to the Steakhouse, and order a steak there instead of waiting 3 hours for a table next door. Best ribeye I've ever had. Also, beignets and chicory cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde was worth the wait, despite the touristy hype.

Honestly, I really didn't find much worth seeing in the town outside the French Quarter. And have some good gumbo if you haven't already.

If you do go to the St Louis Cemetery to soak up that atmosphere then I heartily recommend following my choices: going alone*, being the whitest non-albino person in the whole city, ostentatiously carrying a large camera and tempting satchel of some sort.

Then, like me, you will be such obvious police bait that you'll walk unimpeded in some very iffy locations with quizzical attention from some very dubious groups of young men.  Although I gather that the crime rate is substantially down on the 90s.

*In fact, I gather they don't let people visit alone as of last year.

French Quarter, as has been said, should be a stop. You have Jackson Square and the church is pretty gorgeous. River boat tours aren't too bad if not for the history lessons. Horse carriages are also good for the history, but they can be pretty 'fragrant' at times. French Market is good for a walk around - after you get done there hit up St Charles and jump on a street car. Cemeteries are worth it, hands down - they are pretty unique. Food-wise, try turtle soup before you go.

If you have access to a car and have a half a day to burn, drive down 10 to Baton Rouge. Not a lot there, but the buildings and riverfront in the capital are pretty amazing albeit limited. Of course I'd recommend driving down the street (Highland) and touring LSU...but I might be biased.  why so serious?

If you're looking for something to do at night that isn't drinky some of the walking tours are cool.  There's a "haunted" walking tour that I like.

Bent my toe fully again last night. Was able to bend it Saturday night thanks to my wood stove and hot goddamned slippers, normally I kick 'em off, but I let the feet sweat it out and it loosened things enough to bend it fully for the first time since I broke it. Finally seeing the light at the end of this tunnel, but following doctor's orders has worked pretty goddamned well. Back to full walking speed, though I'm holding off on jumping and whatnot. Feels so good, walking slowly was driving me slowly insane.

For New Orleans, the French Quarter is a whole shitload more than Bourbon Street, especially if you aren't drinking and are looking for good food. There's carriage rides around the Quarter which are fun, Jackson Square is awesome. I can recommend Muspero's if you want good sandwiches (and I mean big eat 'em with a fork type sandwiches on french bread, not wimpy subs) and absolutely go with Cafe Du Monde and some beignets and coffee. Who gives a shit if it's touristy, they are goddamn awesome.

The other day I went through my sister's big stack of take away menus.  Well more than half of the restaurants are no longer in business.   ACK!

You're assuming the menus were kept in a drawer.

Did you throw the bad menus away, Signe?  And more importantly, did you let your sister know that she had a stack of bad menus in her pile.
