Anybody win anything good? I was watching Family Guy reruns.
I don't judge people's escapism anymore. Sports, Movie Star/ Musician fandom, Royal watching, Politicians.   It's all equally terrible and all about how awesome millionaires are at their jobs.

I watched because my wife was cracking-up so I wanted to see what was going on.  I missed the 'boob song' but caught a bunch up to 10:00 or so.

What Schild said. I was happy for Waltz, very good character.

People watch the Oscars?

I love the Oscars. It's like the Superbowl, the game might suck and the wrong team might win but the whole spectacle surrounding it makes it entertaining.

Jennifer Lawrence is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wQNj-gF9bfE#!

I stopped watching or caring about the Oscars when I found out who makes up "the Academy" that votes on these movies. People who are in Nursing homes, mainly. That explains 'Driving Miss Daisy.'

Plus, I'm really too old to care much about celebrities anymore or to imagine I will ever be part of their world, so watching a bunch of people I don't know trying their hardest not to look bored does not appeal to me much. I'd watch an interview, sure, but that not so much.

That best actor dude was on SNL recently. The old lady asked "Who is he?" "Oh, he was a nazi in a Tarentino flick"

Last night, "Oh, there's that dork who was on SNL. Was Django the movie you were talking about?" "No, it was the other Tarentino movie he played a kraut in."

Giant range there.

Not sure I'd think calling a kid (she's what? 9-10?) a cunt hilarious, but to each his own.  And I don't even like kids much.

Did the kid do something weird? Or was this just a shot at the general media coverage of the Oscars?

Either way, I don't think the Onion should apologize for anything. Humor is supposed to push the envelope.

It is a fucking JOKE. People are way too uptight. If you don't like the Onion's sense of humor, don't fucking follow them on social media or visit their website.

Seth was fine. I loved the 'unknown director' shot at the Academy when was was talking about Argo. The fucking producers should be blacklisted from ever being involved again, however. Hey remember our shitty musical that won a bunch of awards 10 years ago? Well we are going to fuck its dead corpse for 3+ hours! Hope you enjoy!

WAY too many musical numbers. And I hope Sally Struthers got a hold of Kristen Chenoweth after the show and fed her a fucking sandwich. Skeletor look is not sexy.

Dear Readers,

On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars. It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.

No person should be subjected to such a senseless, humorless comment masquerading as satire.

The tweet was taken down within an hour of publication. We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again.

In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible.

Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.

Sincerely,

Steve Hannah

I'm sad they didn't take a jab at Charlize in the apology letter about not being able to take the "We Saw Your Boobs" nod for Monster.

I'm wholly amused that the Chris Brown/ Rhianna joke was seen as the most offensive.  No, Hollywood's insistence that we just need to put it behind us instead and accept Chris is the offensive part.  The man should be blacklisted as should anyone who beats someone so much they put them in the hospital. Instead it's, 'we just don't understand,' and, 'she's made her choice, just accept it." Fuck those people.

This completely. He should be put in a hole filled with shit up to his neck and left to fucking rot. Dickbag.

As for McFarlane, I didn't watch and didn't care but what was funny was seeing the ABC News people this morning saying he was "Too tame" and "he did more musical numbers than I thought." Which means on the former you were idiots for thinking he wouldn't tone it down for the old people and for the latter you haven't watched much Family Guy.

He was entertaining.  It's Seth MacFarlane  Not a mystery what kind of content you're going to get from him.

At least Jennifer Lawrence looked like she could take a joke.  But, yes, I would like to see her boobs.

They overdid the theme, but this one was less odious than recent Academy Awards.

I don't think it should be swept under the rug either. Nobody should tacitly accept domestic abuse in a forum that public by pretending it doesn't exist.

Seth was right to take a shot, because it wasn't just at them, it was at everyone trying to shush up the situation. It's not just about her, it's about her as one of the most popular women in the world basically giving out the message to other women everywhere to just shut up and take a punch.

Apologist for domestic violence? What?

Really, really, really not so much.  I'm also not a fan of suicide, but can't really stop that either.  If you actually think McFarlane taking cheap shots at a nationally publicised event is going to magically sort out the prevalance of domestic abuse then, well, good for you.

As I said, I don't really care about this particular woman.  There are more than enough beaten black and blue Scottish women that I could help.  Hell, I could probably see more than I cared to with a mere ten minutes walk from where I live.  I certainly know there's one 4 doors down who's been a friend for the last ten years.  And every time she dumps another one (or, in a more memorable event, he goes to Prison) she ends up with another chap who solves problems with the good ole knuckles.

And all I can do, and I mean ALL I CAN DO, is try to teach my daughter what's right, what's wrong and where you can dispose of bodies of those who don't understand the difference or when to stop.  Because, frankly, some smarmy cunt with a voice, a national stage and the obvious inability to give two fucks himself, won't solve anything.

But carry on.

This. Normally I would say their relationship is absolutely none of my fucking business. But she used a very big megaphone against domestic violence, then went back to the silly dick. And I'm sure when she gets beat on again, we'll have no end of news stories about that. She had a brilliant platform to preach exactly what Ironwood wants to teach to his daughter and then goes back to him like it's no big thing. Proving once again that shitheels get ahead and some women are utter fucking idiots.

Whoa.  I'm the bad guy here and you're blaming the victim ?

All Seth has done is given them both something to band together against.  That's how most abusers work.  They manipulate as much as they can that it's 'us two against the world, they don't understand our love'.

This doesn't help.

She'll use that megaphone when she's ready and when she's learned her own lesson.  It's a journey of self discovery and, apart from being SUPPORTIVE, nothing external really helps.

I'm not blaming her for the abuse. I'm blaming her for returning to the abuse and showing women around the world that it's ok to get beat on if he says he loves her from the biggest fucking spotlight on the planet. Self-discovery is a good thing... except when you are such a huge role model that your actions can affect the lives of countless women around the globe who are also getting the shit beaten out of them on a regular basis. At that point, you have a responsibility to understand the effect your fame can have on people other than you. Does it suck for her to be held to a higher standard than other abused women? Yes it does, but that's a part of fame.

Seth McFarlane can fuck off. I've long grown tired of him and don't really care what he did at the Oscars.

But by being famous and having money, she has access to services that people in abusive situations don't. She doesn't have to worry about whether or not she'll have a place to stay if he does it again. She doesn't rely on him for anything. She can love him, but she has to be against the behavior. Publicly. Because she is a public figure.

In other words, uneducated waitress gets beat up and she goes to work the next day, says it's her fault, and hopes to make enough tips to replace the window he broke. World famous singer gets slapped around and she gets back on her private jet and flies home and then goes to her therapist and asks why she desveres this. Obviously, she is not obligated to do anything about this situation, but hopefully, her publicist or PR people are savvy enough to realize that she can be an icon to millions of women helping the victims through both monetary means (charities and safe houses) and through social means (decyring the abuse on radio, TV, and in interviews).

Does that mean she can never forgive him? No. But, it may mean that HE has to do something publicly to show that he was in the wrong and that he is atoning for being an idiot.

As far as the Oscars, I don't watch them because they rarely pick movies that deserve to win. How many Oscar winners for best picture were released outside of the months October through December? Talk about short term memory.
