I have decided that God does NOT want me exercising. Attempting to starting walking/jogging has led to the Rapid Comeback of Plantar Fascitius which I had surgically corrected like four years ago.
I'm doing the preventative stuff (up to and including that stupid night splint) and hoping like hell it's just sore feet because I'm actually ON them more than a few minutes.
I figure it's gotta take a few weeks minimum for my feet to get used to moving my chubby butt around more than to and from the car, so...hoping. :)

Are you walking/jogging uphill? Are you trying to be trendy and are wearing those "barefoot" shoes?

The "bad place" is Politics, right?
And, Schild, I think you should design Easter bonnet and duvet cover fabric until you find something better. You have such a good eye for pastels. Or sarcastic stand up comedy. Give yourself a freaky name like Moses Hitler or Dave Something and make people uncomfortable from the safety of a stage. You'd be awesome. I'd pay money to see the heckle backs. (or you could put me on the guest list)

If jogging hurts, stick to walking. Jogging is bad for you IMO. At least it's bad for me; since hitting age 25 or so I always get pretty bad knee pain if I jog or run for more than a few minutes. Went to an ortho once to get some x-rays and he said it's pretty much just how my knees are put together. I can walk all day, though. Last Saturday I went out for a stroll and ended up walking the entire length of the city and then some, which was pretty awesome.

Treadmill, 5% incline. I was doing fine alternating between 1.5 and 3.0 mph (slow and fast walk), tried to up it to 2 and 4 (4 being basically a light jog). I don't think I was ready for it. And fuck no on the barefoot thing. :) I wore shoes with my lovely, expensive, custom inserts I got back when I had the foot problem in the first place. The inserts are still good (even under heavy exercise they've got another two years in them, and I haven't been exercising). Shoes are a bit old, even if they are good shoes for running or walking. I think I just stressed them trying to up my speed and distance, and maybe need new shoes -- the ones I've got are a little raggedy. Surprisingly, my knees are doing fine! I thought they'd be a problem, but they're not giving me a bit of trouble.

Depending on how old your inserts are you might still need new ones, not because the insert itself has worn out but because your feet and gait may have changed over the years.
Most of the joggers I know spend a few months a year limping around the office in tension bandages, unless you have perfect form I doubt you're supposed to be doing it in your thirties.

Bah - I didn't even start running until my mid-30's. But yes, most people start off with too much too soon and end up hurting themselves.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

A good treadmill is excellent for jogging. They have enough cushion to relieve the stress on knees.
I'm sure that I'll catch some hate for saying this, but the reason that most people tend to suffer jogging injuries is because they are carrying too much weight. I lift 5-6 days a week and weigh about 200-205lbs. If I retrain for jogging, I can easily get my weight down to 170. The difference in knee burden is very recognizable.

Just got back from the worst exam I've ever taken. 70% of the stuff asked we never worked on in homework, labs and papers. It was just some bullshit paragraph in the book that I read weeks ago, and now I have to pull that information up like I'm fucking Google. The sad part is, I've got a 96% in the class so far. How can I have a 96% in actual work, but not know half the crap on the exam? Argh, disappointed in myself, but disappointed in the class, too.

Adv WebD, this section centered around CSS.
There were whole problems that were so poorly written that I had no idea what the prof was asking. Part of the challenge of online classes is that they want us to prove that we're doing the work, not paying someone to do it for us. Which I understand, sure. But paper/written tests for anything to do with code is mind-bogglingly difficult to work through, especially when all the assignments and labs allow (virtually require) book and internet access.
From memory, one of the questions asked us to write CSS to create an ordered list that would create all the letters of the alphabet written in descending format using :before and :after pseudo-elements. I could figure that out with my book/internet. But we never discussed it in class, and we never had an assignment regarding it. It was just a short section in our book that they dumped on us with no warning.
It's ultimately a failure on my part. I can build an awesome shed, but don't ask me to regurgitate part of the manual I used to build it. Frustrating none the less.

Your average professor is as shitty as a public school teacher with a deeper well of knowledge about their subject. The idea they'd be able to write and conduct tests well is a little silly, so don't beat yourself up over it.

As a university professor myself, I agree with Schild with one exception; private liberal arts schools. If you're at a decent sized university, we faculty are there to do research and make money for the university. If our teaching avoids a lawsuit, that's a plus.

I personally think all computer tests should be open book (no internet access), the trade off should be a greater penalty for crap solutions. Not even sure why you would need the before/after pseudo selectors, especially now that you can define a list as reverse order and then set type to lower-alpha. Either way this is also a retarded question as who the hell wants a reverse order alpha list, I can see a reverse order numeric count down making sense but alpha sounds retarded.

I haven't had any knee problems, which is surprising. I did take a very, very close look at my shoes and my gait. I sincerely expect better shoes will solve a lot of problems. I thought they were a bit old. I'm walking slant because the outside edges of the shoe have worn away and the inside edges haven't. My feet hurt, I suspect, because they're sliding sideways as I walk, putting weird pressure on them.

It's a web page, ctrl+f "Walter", also it would still be in ascending alpha order. edit - also we are talking about an ordered list (like in an outline or agenda), a list of names would more likely be tabular.

I'll post the problem when I get my exam back. I'm likely explaining it incorrectly here.
The big issue was that it was a two paragraph section in the book that was never mentioned in class, nor did we have assignments based on it. Then it shows up as ~10% of the exam grade. Bonkers, imo.

The question is, was it something that required memorizing that particular section, or was it something you should have been able to derive how to do, based on other class work?
I hated tests that were based on memorization - I'll take a much more complex test with answers I can actually work out any day.
From my limited post secondary experience, it was pretty obvious that most teachers didn't have time to devise their own hand crafted tests. Most "from the book" tests seem to be entirely about how easy it is to feed in to the scantron.

The UCLA system and DMV are not my friends. My ex-wife's car went to Texas and was titled there 4 years ago and then sold to someone else in the middle of last year. It somehow wound up at a UCLA campus branch 500 miles from my house and accumulated parking tickets. Since the CA DMV for some reason has no record of anyone owning this car other than me, I'm assigned to pay the parking fines. Despite producing paperwork and evidence explaining the situation and proving that yes, the car has been registered in another state to someone else twice since I was last associated with it, UCLA has deemed that since no one else comes up in the system and the CA DMV only has me on record, I just need to suck it up and pay the tickets. I've been fighting it for 3 months now and lost my last appeal - which comes with late fees built in and a trip to collections if it isn't paid for by Wednesday. The only recourse I have is to show up physically in person for a hearing now in another side of the state during which they can't guarantee that the results will be anything different because "someone has to pay the fine!" despite it obviously not being my car. So I can spend $150 on gas and take a day or two off from work only to end up having to pay the fines anyway because the university needs the money. Broken system is broken.

There should be a store for WWND bracelets. That way, no one would think or second guess how to act and proceed in legal issues again, people can just look at their bracelet and know what to do. So start uploading the dog pics!

Wouldn't a ticket be issued by license plates, wouldn't it just stop at whoever's plates they were? What type of shitheel response could they have possibly given to the fact that it's not your God damn car?
