My best friend from HS shared this with me and now I share it with you for your enjoyment.  Or horror, y'know, whichever.  : A crazy person being crazy.

Quote
Animals Can't Talk

Signs that read “Deer Crossing” and the like are going to continue to pop up throughout our country including Avon Lake, but who are these signs for? Deer cannot read, do not obey the law and probably will cross where they wish. Although adorable companions, it is hard to remember the last time that the news reported an animal talking, thinking or providing significant input for the benefit of society. Yet, these signs cost taxpayers like so much of government.

Dogs, cats,  whales, seals and deer are animals that might enhance a human’s life, but all cannot read, write or think. They are animals. Yes, people dress them, buy them extravagant blinge and do other strange things with them; however, animals are not human. They are on this earth like trees to make humans’ lives better. As humans we must be kind to them, eat them when hungry, feed them when they are, but remember they are here to enhance our lives.  Besides, it appears that this gesture of kindness to animals does not extend human to human. This President’s  Obamacare appears to welcome abortion of innocent babies. It is painful to think that there are those who  cry for seals while Obamacare  never blinks an eye at abortion.

Somewhere the advancement of society has been limited by animals and the unscientific malarkey of loons. America has had to halt drilling, construction, experiments for medicine and cosmetics  and much that might benefit humans.

Yes, signs are important-- to humans; “Stop” signs, and others are more than just costly decorations  scattered along  the roadways. However, depending on the school district,  most humans can read them, but animals not so much.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

The more frightening thins is I did some searches on Reddit trying to decide where to best post it.  It's evidently not as uncommon a dumb thought as I'd like to believe it is.

Zoos depress me.  They're a reminder of just how selfish and destructive human parasites are.

It's true.  When I was a kid I interned at a zoo for a summer.  They had a depressed gorilla who had picked away at his hair and scratched himself all over and looked as if he was going to tip over and die any second.  When you looked at his face and posture, there would be no doubt in your mind that this poor thing was in physical and mental agony.  They had a depressed bear, too.  I was invited back the next year but I found it too sad and there was nothing I could do about any of it.  I actually found it easier to work a year at the EPA, getting bags of gooey mess to work with.  At least I learned something there.  I learned nothing at the zoo.  Now I'm depressed, too.   swamp poop

If you've never been exposed to unix-like command lines, if you've only ever used windows and had to fight without having any of the tools unix users take for granted - it would probably be a Godsend.

I learned nothing at the zoo.

Actually, it sounds like you learned a lot.  Just maybe not about the things you wanted.

My two years in the inner-city library system were absolute dead weight for learning anything practical, but I sure as hell learned a lot about the human condition and lack thereof.

It largely depends on the Zoo and the enclosures provided.  Too many Zoos try to include too many animals, or stick them in small enclosures or isolate them.  I recall the Cleveland Zoo gorilla was one of the most depressing things as a kid.  In this interior concrete enclosure not much more than 50x70 with no natural light and all alone. He'd sit there staring and not do much else, unless he got angry enough at the kids to beat on the glass.

The Cincinnati Gorillas are in an outdoor/ indoor enclosure built out like some lowlands that's probably about a half acre on the exterior and kept in a group of 3-4.  They're all fairly sociable and don't seem upset at the environment.

The night cats, however, are all solo and interior. They seem nervous and a lot of them pace when they're awake, even after the 4million dollar revamp the zoo just did to their building.   The jungle cats got a fantastic enclosure and all seem very happy with it, playing, lounging about and vocalizing pretty regularly.

I like zoos. I love seeing rare and exotic animals up close in real life. I also have very fond memories of going there as a school kid (was always the 'big' field trip of the year). I am probably spoiled- Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle is a pretty nice one. I went to the Honolulu zoo when I was in Hawaii in 1995 (it was literally across the street from our hotel and was a nice leisurely activity we could do hungover) and it was depressing- very animal jail.

The enclosures at the Fort Worth zoo are pretty extraordinary, and in my three visits there over the past twelve years I haven't seen anything even remotely depressing or cruel.  The Dallas zoo is pretty nice now as well.  Both zoos also contribute quite a bit to conservation, along with the Dallas World Aquarium, which is also great.

Parts of the Chapultapec Zoo in Mexico City were sad though, the last time I went.  The pandas had a nice enclosure, along with an elderly grizzly bear, but a lot of animals paced in what were essentially concrete cages and looked bored/stressed.

Zoos can definitely go either way.

Yes, but that's fucking nonsense.

That's like saying you really need to speak English for someone who only knows Engllish.  Exchange 2007 Onwards was pretty much written as Powershell only and everything else is just a shitty, shitty GUI addon for it.  So, Sure, Powershell is the best for managing Exchange, because nothing else makes any fucking sense at all.

It's the same with 365 (as it would be, it's built on 2010) and only now are the good Gui stuff finally getting out there.  If you have it, check out APVA.  It's fucking awesome.

At least it recognizes a few simple unix commands that you'd have to script yourself with a command prompt?

Powershell is POSIX-compliant, so it knows what to do when you type `ls`, but that wasn't helping me any.  I believe I would have needed to write a ps1 script and then figure out how to execute it on a schedule.  I know there's a scheduler in W7, and it can run programs, but I found a lot of horseshit when I was looking at "how to execute powershell scripts".  Powershell will not be anything decent until you can type out a script and run it like you can a .bat file.

The fact that cygwin has a cron is just gravy.

I was trying to look for a silver lining.

If it can't be done on the command line or with a batch file, I tend to write an AutoIt script to do the work.  Then throw it in the Task Scheduler if it needs to be repeated.

Well you can, but you have to set your execution policy first, since the default is NO SCRIPTS ALLOWED TO RUN AT ALL, not even your own. Which seems a little paranoid to me, but that's Windows for you.

Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned or Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted depending on how saucy you're feeling. After that you can run them from a PowerShell prompt like normal. Or if you want to do it from somewhere else the syntax is:

powershell.exe -noexit (path to your script)

You don't have to have the -noexit thing there but if you leave it off the window closes and you sit there thinking "I wonder if it did what it was supposed to do."

I think that format is the same thing you'd stick into task scheduler.

How does one drive in these conditions? Carefully?
Foot to the floor with sharp, erratic turns of the wheel and be sure to slam the brakes on as hard as possible.

Or were you asking how one *should* drive in these conditions rather than how they actually do?
