Nintendo managed to complete the trifecta - all three console platform holders managed to disappoint mightily this year.

DRILLING AND MANLINESS DRILLING AND MANLINESS DRILLING AND MANLINESS

Seriously, 2008 called.  They want their E3 back.  Wouldn't it just be cheaper to have a fancy press day at these company's respective headquarters instead of trying to parade out the same bullshit they've done the last four times?  Oh maybe, I dunno, make it less about press and more about gaming, a la PAX?

Most impressive...   DRILLING AND MANLINESS

If I had known that E3 was going to be this bad I would have just made a gif of me rolling back and forth on the floor for two hours and offer my own livestream app of E3 that would feature me just rolling back and forth on the floor forever in the lower left hand corner of the presentation feed and been happy to know that I can honestly say I made E3 a better experience for most people

Watch Dogs is about the only thing presented so far that I'm like "Wow I wanna play that", and it again, reeked of a highly-scripted demo.

Meh. We all know the most fun you'll have is causing accidents like that while you're crossing the street and watching the whole thing from your severed head as it sails away.

The Watch Dogs trailer made me shit myself with glee. Project P-100? WTF? It looks like Lemmings mixed with Japanese giant robot fighting tv shows.

Seriously this was a terrible e3.

It says a lot that Ubisoft had the best conference. They ate everybody's lunch and dominated the conferences the others they cameo-ed in. If Konami had done one and it was competently managed I would say we are near the end times.

I can't wait to see "Watch Dogs" multiplayer.

OP is assuming its somewhat of a design-goal of eve to make players happy.
this is however not the case.

Watch Dogs was extremely pretty, using the hacking angle to add a strategic layer could be interesting and even the dialogue was tight and well done.

More motivation for a PC update.

To me this looks like a Neo-Geo game from 1994 brought into the modern era. (That's a good thing in my eyes)

More general thoughts: All conferences sucked, IPs being ridden into the ground, long costly development times means most of what we see at E3 is from the last E3. MS has shown essentially the exact same lineup for 3 years now, zero big surprises, rumored surprises (Retro game, Gaikai/D3 for PS3) all no-shows.

That said maybe a lot of stuff on the show floor will be cool, I'll find out since I'm a cool guy who goes to E3!

I'm not worried about Square games looking pretty. They have good artists; character designers non-withstanding. They've done a lot with a little in the past.

I just want their games to be NOT BAD. THEIR GAMES HAVE BEEN BAD. STOP MAKING BAD GAMES.

I can't figure out if it would be better for gaming to have all current game companies hopelessly fail in the next 3 years, or if gaming would be replaced by something else in that case.

It's a dilemma.

I'm okay coming out of this with NBA League Pass on the Xbox 360 come next season.  The desktop interface is less than fantastic now and in the case of MLB.TV it was a huge step up in ease-of-use.  Plus, I won't be in the blackout region for my teams soon enough awesome, for real.

Quote
Watch Dogs exploded out of nowhere earlier on Monday, impressing us with its slick portrayal of cyber-crime and assassination in an always-online Chicago. The Ubisoft press conference demo left everyone with questions about the final few moments. In a scene that doesn’t appear in the demo footage that Ubisoft have since released, the camera pulled back from the action and started following a different person entirely. Was it the same player taking charge of another character, or a second player controlling their own avatar in the same city?

It was a second player. VG247 have spoken to him. His name is Dominic Guay, executive producer on the game. “Online is in the DNA of Watchdogs,” he said. “It’s super important to us. We couldn’t announce our game and not at least tease online.”

“Basically, Jonathan, our creative director was playing agent Pearce at the conference, and I was playing another character, who hacked into him, who had his own objective and we crossed paths. It was basically two players who crossed paths with their own objectives.”

In the conference demo, the character that Guay was playing watched the carnage that Jonathan was causing from afar. After apparently scanning Johnathan’s brain, he turned and vaulted over some rooftops in a different direction entirely, it sounds now as though he was pursuing an entirely different mission in the same city.

It’s a situation that doesn’t fit neatly into your traditional “co-op” and “competitive” multiplayer pigeon holes, but the idea of players interacting through co-incidence and experiencing the collateral damage of each other’s independent objectives is intriguing.

“We definitely want to blend in multiplayer online and singleplayer in ways that haven’t been done before,” says Guay. We’ll be hunting down more info on Watch Dogs as E3 progresses. Meanwhile, here’s the Watch Dogs demo, albeit without that multiplayer tease that Ubisoft threw into their live presentation at the end of Monday’s conference.

I'm intrigued, but it's Ubisoft, so the chasity belt they attach to this thing will probably kill it for me.

I tried Planetside 2. The shooting works, that is good.

Defiance is not bad. I used a PS3 controller (lol shooter), but it seems more rpg with a shooter slant. More shootery than Tabula Rasa, though.

Neverwinter is... okay. It's okay.
