(Santa Monica, CA) – February 2nd, 2012 – Atlas Productions, LLC announced today that “Atlas Shrugged Part 2”, the second installment of the Atlas Shrugged movie trilogy, has been officially greenlit with principal photography to begin this coming April in Los Angeles, Colorado, and New York.
 
Based on Ayn Rand’s (Feb. 2 1905 - Mar. 6 1982) 1957 novel, ATLAS SHRUGGED is set in the near future when a dystopian United States finds its leading innovators, from industrialists to artists, mysteriously disappearing at an alarming rate resulting in the “stopping the motor of the world."

Joining the production is Duncan Scott, a four time Emmy® award-winner, who worked extensively with Rand on the restoration of her film classic “We the Living.” 

“Rand has long been the focus of Duncan’s work. He brings invaluable experience to the table as well as an incredible depth of knowledge regarding Atlas. We’re thrilled to have him on the team.” stated Producer John Aglialoro.

Rand’s 1,100 page novel is being produced by Atlas Productions as a trilogy which follows the three part structure of the bestselling book.  Part 1 was released theatrically on April 15, 2011. Part 2 is set to be in theaters October 2012 amidst what is sure to be a fever pitched presidential election season.

“It’s no coincidence that we chose Ayn Rand’s Birthday as the occasion to make this announcement. We have high aspirations for Part 2. We’ve looked carefully at Part 1 and taken time to analyze and reexamine everything from the script to the casting. John and I are committed to making a great Part 2 and excited about what lies ahead,” according to Producer Harmon Kaslow.

I say that even as I like her books.  Still, the old Fountainhead movie is a better film than Atlas Shrugged 1. Thoroughly boring film.

She also believed that you should make every effort to do what you think is correct, regardless of the world's short term view of your efforts.  The Fountainhead was about an architect with nutty ideas being told by everyone to conform.  The book painted him as a hero for not conforming.

Those last two sentences are for anyone that did not read the book.  I wasn't implying that Haemish specifically hasn't or not.

She specifically addresses this in one of her books or essays.  She wrote that it is not immoral to benefit from programs that one opposes as long as one is acting to change/end them.  Her argument further went that it would be irrational to refuse beneficial programs for no other reason than pride/ideology, especially if one has been taxed against one's will to pay for the programs.  I agree with her.  I think Social Security is a horrendous scam on me, but because I have been forced to pay for it, I would be a fool to refuse it should it still exist when I qualify.

In other words, she is a hypocrite who uses logic to try to rationalize away the guilt she should feel for being a goddamn hypocrite.

Saying that you live by reason means that you kinda ought to live by reason, rather than saying 'Oh, No, Wait, Do As I Say, Not As I Do'.  I think if she was alive today she'd be running for some Republican seat somewhere and making an utter cunt of it.

This is the kind of reasoning that workers on Death Row use and it's just as much fucking nonsense when they use it.  Ultimately, what it says about a person is 'I don't have the courage of my convictions and I am therefore worthless and you should not listen to a word I say'.

You can disagree, of course, but you're worthless and I'm not gonna listen to a word you say.   


Anyway, as someone who's never read the book because the story just sounds like utter self-serving drivel, I'm not sure I'll be seeing the movie.  I do, however, find the idea of a movie about these ideals losing money and still making a second one to be the very gigglesome sauce over my Irony pancake.  If the figures quoted here are correct, a loss of 14 Million ?  Reeeealllly....
