I figured it would be a bit more. Four dollars seems very reasonable. Almost like they are not making money off selling them.

I really don't get why these aren't in every box and mandatory. It seems like they would more than recoup the expense in saved customer service grief.

I'll wait for the app, which will hopefully come soon.

Same.  WoW authenticator app served me well.

Going with the physical authenticator, since I don't actually own my phone (my work provides it, and the last thing I want is to not be able to log in to my MMO with my copious unemployed free time if I end up getting fired and having to give the phone back!)

I like that they have an in-game vendor for folks with security keys -- nice little incentive to get people to use (and buy) them.

Why does it say "only on Origin" below the authenticator. Statements like that scare me.

That's how you order it, through the Origin store.

I'm sure if you wait until the 20th you can get an app for your iphone or android for free.

So someone clue me in - how does one use an app on their phone to verify a login on their PC?

Generates a number key, same as the dongle.

lol, special access to a Security-Key only vendor shop.  Wonder how long it'll take for the VIP CE shit to trickle down to that why so serious?

Yeah the physical key isn't a USB lock, it's a numeric generator like WoW's, however that tech works.  I have theories but can't be arsed to look up if I'm right.

The token has a unique seed number that generates a code every 30 sec or 1 minute based on what time it is; the authentication server on the other end knows your seed number as well so it can also generate the same number. Then it just compares them and lets you in if they match.

Ah ok, I was actually thinking it was a dongle system. Still have a parallel port dongle from our software from ten years ago sitting on my desk as a trophy.

USB isn't too bad, but the days of parallel ports were rough.

Yeah, with the basic shipping and tax it's a whole nine cents more than I paid for my WoW one three years ago.

Hmm...I guess no one's interested in the entire Security Key store one gets access to when you use an authenticator.  WoW gave us, what, a two-headed fire-puppy?

Exactly.  I noticed it added with whichever beta, couldn't access it, and couldn't buy a key to test it.  If I get a security token, it'll be because I want the security.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's probably a good way to encourage people to get a security thingy, it's just hard to get excited about a store that, for all I know, has low level medpacs on it or something and nothing else.

iOS version is out, but reports are that it doesn't work yet.

I don't have an iOS device anymore to confirm, but something about this seem fishy.

What.. you mean like the name of the seller being EA Swiss Sarl and not Electronic Arts?  That's a subsidiary of EA that does iphone games.   Considering iTunes apps have to go through that vetting and registration process I wouldn't be too worried.  If it were Android Marketplace only, sure, worry.

AskAJedi has some vendor info up, highlights would be:

- A mouse droid (different item from the CE one, no clue on model)
- Some companion customizations.
- A Fleet Pass for 100 credits.  Looking around on Torhead, it looks to be consumable (since it stacks) and on an hour cooldown (from a spell with the same name).
- Some cosmetic armor, Imperial Dancer's or Republic Dancer's.
- An R3 speeder.
