Sweetie, no self-respecting friend-of-Dorothy would be seen anywhere in mismatched gloves and shoes. But I think they took out the chest coordination button because it also changed the color of your lightsaber, and, as everyone knows, matching *everything* is worse than not matching your accessories. The only class that can get away with it is the Booty Bounty Hunter because he's well, you know, flaming.

And that background chick looks like a meth'd up tranny mess.

I've worn the helmet Elara is wearing for like 6 levels, it's as tragic as it looks.

And I just noticed how the size of the ear covers on the helmet are big enough to allow for protection of stylishly braided hair buns. Now *there's* a manufacturer clearly thinking about its target market.

Yes, still they won't go back to WoW unless Pandaria has companions and voice-overs.

Anyone else think the mmo of the future is just going to be you playing with an entire community of npc's?

I think TOR NPC-galore is direct response to "LF2M healer & tank" DIKU problem. People are not averse to grouping with others, but they generally don't like dealing with logistics and scarcity of undesirable roles.

Actually, I think it's probably better for healers and tanks. Most previous pet classes were dps, with a tank or dps pet. Being able to solo as a tank with a healer pet is pretty cool. Rounding out duos is extra cool.

Logistics is really my main barrier to grouping more. People will begin to hate me in TOR, I afk at the drop of a hat. Or cat. Or tune. Hell, I played feign death classes in EQ/EQ2 so I could afk more easily.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

not to derail pic thread but companions will only be good if they allow you to do things 'that matter' I mean that if your power level is still the same as a character in a game like wow where you can already solo as a tank or healing class then having a companion is only useful for the storyline. There is a very real danger that every class in swtor just becomes a pet class by default and when it comes to high end dungeons or raids you still need to LFG, thereby defeating the whole point of companions in the minds of many.

Even if with your companion you come out to the same power level as in classical MMO solo play, they also work well as training wheels for grouping. Through the companions, healing ACs can actually have solo gameplay that's similiar to grouping by sending your tank companion forward and then supporting it. Same, but inversed, for tank classes. Whereas in WoW you would likely use different powers/rotations when soloing.

Of course, since I only played to the end of Coruscant my impression might still be completely wrong.

Companions are awesome.  But they aren't used in operations and instanced pvp.  They are also a liability in high level flashpoints.

Even if decked out in purple-modded crafted gear?

That would be an interesting experiment.

When I say a liability, I'm saying for the average person.  Essentially doing a flashpoint at level 45 with leveling gear and your companion's gear is a bit inferior to yours.  Your companion will be a liability.

Coming back once you have great gear, as does your companion, and helping out another player with you and your companion in some easy flashpoints is a different story.  It also depends on the player's ability to use companion skills manually at the right time rather than letting the UI do it too.

I'm sure hardmode flashpoints will require a full human group unless the group is over geared.

Hardmodes I get.  But normal-mode stuff?  If I and my friend have our companions decently geared, we should be able to plow through.  I think if I and my friend were tank/healer and just had dedicated DPS companions, it'd be even more awesome.

It really probably depends on player skill.  Say you are both the tank and the healer.  Can you effectively tell your companions to both focus fire down a single target and micro manage them?

If you can you miiiiiiight do well if you out level a few things.  I haven't done a high level flashpoint for a few builds, the last one being at Bioware studios.  That shit was hard.  It requires good dps and being able to switch targets quickly.

One fight had three bosses and only one target was attackable at a time, and that target switched.  Essentially shields were rotating through the three bosses.  Can you tank, heal and make sure your companions are attacking the same target?

Honestly, I really don't know how well some companions scale with gear and how they do.  My only experience is with companions in green/blue stuff of random levels.

So basically, all classes are pet classes and you will still need to LFG at high levels. That sucks.
