The newegg deals in particular are awful. They have much better deals through the year just with regular markdowns (probably supply-related).

One subwoofer I'm looking at is at $250, but the comments say it was $200 a couple months ago.

Agreed Sky; I was hoping to pick up some cheap RAM to go from 8gb to 16, but there was jack shit available.

You can't really check out Blood Bowl, you spend hours and hours and hours learning all the rules and details, or you just try a few games and get crushed horribly having no idea what you're doing or what just happened.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Is Brink worth 6.25 for the game plus all DLC?

I think so, but I was one of those oddballs that actually thought it was pretty decent even at launch.  Still, for 6.25 you can hardly go wrong in my opinion.  If you are going to buy it at all, definitely spend the extra 1.25 for the DLC, the two new maps added are worth it.

Yeah, I love the game to death.  It's kinda quirky though, so if you're unsure, you might want to watch a few videos of it or something, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.  The one problem is that the game is pretty quiet these days, so if there's no good servers with open spots you might end up having to play against Bots, which can be frustrating.

EDIT:  Hang on, it's free this weekend.  That would probably be a better way to figure out if you like it than watching me fellate it some more.  Though bear in mind that once it stops being free, it's a bit harder to find popuated games.

On an unrelated note, there's a contest going on right now where if you visit the big "Daily Wishlist Giveaway" game at the top of the store page, you're automatically entered in a drawing to win the top ten games on your wishlist.

I downloaded Brink to try it out for the free weekend, so we'll see if it's worth it. $6.25 for the whole game + DLC does seem a good deal as long as there people playing.

Brink would be a decent mod, but the idea they sold it as a full-price game is hilarious. It also impresses me as the game with the ugliest characters I've ever seen and a bunch of cosmetic (and upgrade) unlocks that don't excite. Plus two crashes, lots of lag and some pretty average shooter action.

I'll be done with it long before the weekend is over.

Between Skyrim, Minecraft and the impending TOR, it was really easy to ignore the low level of temptation of this sale.

I've postponed my purchase of Skyrim for the opposite reason actually.  Bought 3 games for under 10 bucks total.  Plan to play them until the price of Skyrim drops a bit and then bite.

I'm a little different though.  I'm way behind in games to play so everything old is new to me right now. (I really do want to play Skyrim badly...)

This is actually a really common response to initially playing Brink from what I have seen (even from my friends during the last free weekend).  One of the things about the game that I found was that it takes quite a lot of play before the depth actually starts to show itself.  I think I said back in the Brink thread that around 25 hours into playing I started to actually understand the game and appreciate it.  Of course, I'm not saying buy the game and play it that long before ruling it out, more than anything its just unfortunate that they didn't find a way to get new players "into" the game faster.

If it isn't fun out of the box, it isn't going to get traction. There are just too many other fps games.

I don't see that much potential for depth in the mechanics of the game. It's actually reasonably simplistic from what I can see. Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike and Killing Floor are competitive or superior.

The depth it does have also acts as a negative in terms of "pick up and play". There were a number of quite strong players dominating steam noobs through map knowledge (amplified by the parkour mechanics) and cheesy tactics (the rez syringes and firing while down especially) which is going to lead a lot of curious people to just write it off. In addition it boggles my mind they couldn't even be bothered to do a short single player tutorial to ease people into it. Likewise it needs a clan system for organized teams and agressive team balancing in pick up games (I've no idea if it does anything).

Shooting stuff is intrinsically amusing, and anything that involves an xp bar has some degree of addiction, so I got 6-7 hours out of it before I got bored.

I played Brink last night. It was decent, the leveling system seemed a bit overwhelming at first and there are certainly some interesting strategies to it. Something about it just seemed... off. Not sure what. It was fun, and if I didn't have a thousand other things to play I might buy it for $7, but it just doesn't stack up to other games I have that I want to play more right now. The character models bugged me a bit - the style of them more than anything. The parkour stuff I didn't like all that much. It reminds me too much of platformers and I hate platformers.

Menu animations are amazing.

In-game movement and animations are so incredibly bad I stopped playing after 30 seconds.

A lot of it comes from map knowledge, and ability usage.  Sadly, they start you off as a newb with barely any abilities to manage, another hit towards attracting new people to the game (and another argument against levels in online shooters, but I digress).  Also, a team working together, if/when you get it to happen is really really satisfying.  Its neither her nor there at this point though.
