Ended up spending some more cash on this. Bought Storm got Surfer! Bought Mags got Rogue! Bought X-23 got dupe wolverine... Still, two awesome hits.
Surfer is nuts, you just dash around on his board and everything dies, and then you hit the teleport to reset stacks and just keep going. Honestly, my PC can't keep up with his awesomeness.
Mags is a big disappointment, half his powers are weird purple balls, and lightning, and waves, and junk. Was hoping more more of a CoX controller style thing, where I hit buttons and mobs stand helpless while I watch them die. Instead I shoot purple balls at them and run around trying not to die. Last couple powers don't look to change that. Wasted potential.
Storm is cool. She blows everything on screen up with both cast and passive AOEs. She honestly feels like a better Mags.
Haven't tried the rest. Kinda scared to try and figure out Rogue.

Speaking of trying out new heroes: I've bought Cyclops for splinters purely as a "get to 60 and move on" project (since everyone seems to say that it's one of those heroes you MUST level to 60 for synergies and whatnot)... and it's been surprisingly smooth. It's crazy how much faster it is to level when I don't have to go through the story steps anymore and just hang out in midtown/industry city with occasional LQ jaunts to already-unlocked areas.
I figured Cyclops would be a bit more clunky and less effective than Rocket (due to not having an unkillable tank pet and an on-demand aggro drop baked into his travel ability), but he actually seems to outperform Rocket so far. Usually I just need to hold down the ricochet beam button until yellow numbers stop filling my screen, then switch to holding down the focused beam on the last enemy/boss for a few seconds. If there's a huge zerg, I can also drop a car or an ice slide on them and maybe sweep over them with the death beam a few times -- admittedly the death beam is a bit weaker than Rocket's BFG. I also don't seem to run out of spirit, which was a huge problem for Rocket until I got his spirit regen ability around level 4x...

Yeah. Cyclops was a surprisingly solid and a smooth ride to 60 once you get him reasonably set up in the teens/twenty's. I love his power that blasts the entire screen on like a 3 second cooldown. Maxed out it generally only leaves yellows and higher behind.

Cyc also recently got his review which made him much, much better. He wasn't AS awful as we made him seem earlier in the thread, but he certainly was not fun dragging to 60. I wouldn't have done it if it hadn't been the last 2 days of the Cosmic event over the summer and some XP pots.

I did not like Magneto AT ALL till the last ten levels, but something happens in those last ten levels that makes him kind of awesome. I did n't play around with the build a bit during this time, so that probably had a lot to do with it. He doesn't play like a controller though, so if your heart is set on that don't bother. Edit: I did play around with the build

Um, I love Magneto and playing him because he's like Storm where you hit aoe on the ground and shit dies.
I don't recognize what you two are talking about.

I thought Magneto was great until I started playing Thor and Hulk. Now I have to relearn how to play him because he feels too squishy, even though mobs haven't gotten any tougher.

Play Nightcrawler to 60 then everyone will feel like tanks.
The only thing that really scares me on any character are the stupid charge attacks that insta-kill me but that I couldn't see through all the graphics spam.

I enjoyed MK and could not stand Nova. My main issue was detonation of his pulsars has never felt fluid or smooth. Just personal thing, but both are really good imo.

I'm currently levelling Moon Knight and he's a lot of fun. Really meaty feeling melee attacks, fantastic trash-clearing ranged attacks, great voicework depicting his multiple personalities. His 'less HP, more dmg' mechanic doesn't seem to really come into play unless you're fighting a boss, and to be honest all you really need to do if you're on the verge of losing is hit his Avater of Vengeance power and utterly wreck whoever it is you're fighting. At L29, the first Doom encounter took about a minute and that was only because I had to wait for him to stop posturing twice. I think he's still considered a top tier hero, especially if you're into all that TTK crap but I just find him fun to play. Truncheon Ricochet is probably the most satisfying of all the bounce-attacks I've tried.

His less hp more dmg mechanic might not be all that practical but his less spirit more dmg one is, his basic does more damage than his spender against bleeding targets.

Magneto is awesome. Once you solve your debris rotation, you can lay down as many meat grinder hurricanes to mark your area and kill everything. w/ the Ult & and Sig as extra layers, plus single target dmg of your choice, everything melts.
I recommend using the hotkey toggle, but instead of "LeftAlt", use "SpaceBar". Much easier on the fingers.

How do i magneto? welcome to die edition: 20 pts imprison - dmg layer, vulnerability and aoe clear, also generates debris, basically a must have. Drop it errywhere 20 pts shrapnel barrage - your main damage dealer, this is one of the best single target abilities in the game, also generates debris and makes a satisfying sound 20 pts blunt instrument - throw cars at people, use when low on debris or when you want to throw cars at something 20 pts storm of steel - your sig, so so so good, bit of overkill to clear trash but it wrecks bosses so hard 1 pt superiority - this is the toggle you'll be using because stance dancing is dumb 20 pts indomitable - crit and crit dmg passive, you want this so hard 1 pt magnetic levitation - flight 1 pt electro magnetic field - 20% dmg negation for 1 point, can't beat that, the scaling stats are not good so keep it there 20 pts magnetic eruption - hits like a truck, no spirit cost and lowered cooldown with your toggle 20 pts meat grinder - another awesome damage layer, main trash clear power and high dmg dot 20 pts waste not - free dmg toggle, a bit wonky last i played but added a ton of dmg when it worked right and it's your only debris spender I refuse to stance dance so this is the build i use, it rocks. Also i love that they actually put the welcome to die line in the game.

Winter Soldier was fun for the 10 mins and 14 levels I played him. I saw a few complaints of, "he's squishy" but I didn't see it. Maybe it happens later or they were doing melee builds. I went for guns.
Lots and lots and lots of guns.

Yeah, having fun with Winter Soldier... Unseen Death with the Rifle spec is just too fun. It is too slow to be an "efficient" room clearer... but every once in a while it is *that* fun to one-shot all the normals one-by-one while remaining invisible.
What was up with all the Captain Americas? Was there a rebuild that I missed?

I held off on leveling my cap 'till the rework and yeah, he is. His single target damage is sick and his shield now gives him full immunity, so I don't even have to move when some boss fires up a oneshot. It's fun though, I like the new animations as well, feels a lot more captainy

I'd stalled out on Magneto in his early 30s, one part the wrong spec and one part he's a late bloomer. The combination of the car thing and the autofire Waste Not ability really kicks him up the power curve.

Has anyone run across an omega build template for physical characters? I've seen several for energy builds, one in a Jean Phoenix thread and another in a Magneto thread. But I haven't seen a good one for physical heroes.

this is my Venom build. There's little investment in +brut/crit rating since Warpath and better gear takes care of brut/crit (I'm still around 52% crit and 55% brut before any auras/procs/etc), allowing for more focus in +dmg. If I was on a different hero with lesser gear then I'd invest more in the brut/crit nodes. I'll list my most used nodes below though for phys/str SPIN Tech Neurobotics- it's both phys/mental but the dmg per omega point for just physical is still amazing through rank 10 Focused Strength of Grom if you have spirit management under control and you are not Iron Man Super Soldier Serum (this pulls ahead of FSoG if you have spirit management issues and for Iron Man) Warpath is great as it's +dmg, brut rating, and brut dmg. I have switched to investing more into this node and less into Xerogenesis and Guilt Suppression which is where I used to gain a lot of brut rating. Psionic Overload. It's more expensive to go through the top tree but the +600dmg proc for 10s every 30s I find is worth the extra ~120 points. Combat Rorschach - dmg vs vulnerable targets with good value Tactical Neural Implant, Frenzy, and Harpy for melee Pym's Growth ranks 3-5 are not awful value, but only for investing later on and only for ranks 3-5. Lower and higher ranks aren't as valuable Melt Face for 10 ranks

New code: UNLIMITED
XP rush.
I like the three 'variant' costumes they've done, though I'm not especially inclined to pick any of them up. I'd get Hawkguy-in-jammies if I didn't already have Kate Bishop, which is one of my favourite costumes in the game. Looking forward to seeing what they'll do next.
Iceman, on the otherhand, has been lumbered with two decidedly mediocre looking costumes to start with. The names 'Ice-surfer' and 'Ice-groot' are being bandied about, not unfairly I might add. It's bizarre as Bobby's had a huge range of great/unique looks over the years, up to and including Bobby the Ice-wizard showing up as part of the future-Brotherhood in All-New X-men. Hopefully he'll have a good selection soon enough.

Snow Bobby looks good if he's actually given facial features (though the boots can definitely go). Bermuda shorts are always acceptable. I kind of wish I could have a go at making the Age of Apocalypse Bobby model look more like the current continuity 'Ice-elf' Bobby. They're somewhat similar, but one is less... pointy than the other. Also, this panel: Walkman Star-Lord looks a lot more like Sam Rockwell than Chris Pratt. I don't mind it, really - none of the 'movie' costumes actually look much like the actors at all (except maybe Hulk).
