Advance Pack 2 is announced with 10 confirmed and 2 in the works.

1 Iceman [no playstyle comments yet]
2 Dr Doom - 3 dmg types (phys/mental/energy)
3 War Machine - lots of weapons, heat mechanic for a resource
4 Kitty Pryde and Lockheed - Lockheed is permanently summoned
5 Vision - synergy mechanics are the biggest thing noted for his announcement in regards to playstyle.
6 She-Hulk -
7 Winter Soldier -
8 Blade -
9 Iron Fist - besides DPS he has healing mantras
10 Black Cat - melee and a trap user

http://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/135471/advance-pack-2-heroes

updated with some of the playstyle comments from the announcement. Those without anything don't have anything worth mentioning besides that they use iconic weapons/styles from that character and do dps.

I just skimmed through the Q&A, and the more interesting things are that the Advanced Pack 2 is mostly with 400-600 cost heroes, and they are keeping the 200 splinter heroes out of it. Some of the ones they wanted to keep out were Magik, Domino, etc where they would be cheaper. They cut out fortune cards from the pack because of some people not wanting them last time, so they gave iridium boosts which everyone can use. With the iridium boosts, 12 are delivered upon ordering of the advanced pack, and the rest are delivered with each hero.

With Black Cat, this was asked/answered confirming a new insignia coming:

Does this mean we will finally get the Defenders insignia?

Yes.

Yeah, how can I not buy at that price. I've dumped far more than I should in G already, I'd be foolish to not snap this up.

Yeah that's the draw to me.

Find a fun person and drop $9 on 'em, Ironwood. You'll enjoy it.

I do enjoy it and, ahem, I've dropped more than that already.

I just wondered if there was some depth I missed.  If not, fair nuff.

Nope that's it and all it needs for me right now. I'm with you on the 'more than that' front.  It's good to be old sometimes.

Since I think of Cage as a blaxploitation character anyway, I find him hilarious. I would be upset if other African-American characters (assuming more are coming) got the same treatment.

Isn't Luke Cage just Marvel's version of Shaft?  Especially considering Shaft was released in 1971 and Cage first appeared in 1972.

Over and out.

Ice Man and She Hulk interest me, but Warmachine is surprising and I'm not sure how much 'different' it'll end up from Iron Man.

I think making different mechanics is the key here.  I know when I kick up a new hero, it's nice if they have a different 'twist' and people have gone apeshit for Rogue, who's all kinds of different....

Also, is it just me or would there be merit in making hero templates that you could make yourself ?  Isn't that just what Rogue is kinda doing (with boundaries ?)

I like to think so however, since I was raised in a very conservative Christian home, I must shamefully admit I'm one of the few black men my age who's never seen Shaft  embarassed

Most of my understanding of the movies of the time come from watching a few choice scenes of the films (but never the whole movies), anecdotes from actors of that era and of course the parodies such as "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka".

That would be a whole different game though, it would probably kill the business model for this one.

Yeah I was surprised to see War Machine and She Hulk.  I figured they would both just be enhanced costumes for their counterparts.  She Hulk might be different enough, as I don't know much about the character.  A dex based brawler instead maybe?  War Machine, however, I can't see being mechanically different from Iron Man at all.

They said war machine would have an over heating mechanic, probably something like bounty hunters in SWTOR.  And guns instead of lasers.

I believe the team-up She-Hulk has some kind of 'throw briefcase' move, so I'm pretty sure she'll end up reasonably different from the Hulk.

I do wish there was a good super hero mmo left that let you create your own character.  DCUO isn't bad but it severely limits your costumes at creation.

Yeah, me too.  I realize it won't ever be THIS game, but I was musing that such a thing is entirely possible done right.

Not that I've ever seen any of these outside of the mystery boxes. They could really up the drop rate on the terminal boss drops. I find the whole skinner box thing falls apart when I get rewarded so rarely for pushing the button. There's still the chase for a "good" version of the items after all.

Bought this last night.  I'm So tempted to just down all 12 of my awarded iridium drinks at once but 24 hours goes so quick.  Someone easier mentioned buff parties where things last weeks. How's that work.

I had 3 months of 24% RIF and SIF and like a month of 25% exp. They were group buffs from an event like 6 months ago.

Fortune cards mk2 dropped area boosts rather than personal ones, they were only 25% but if tons of people got together and used them you would get months worth of them.  It caused major lag and crashed the server if too many people did it, at minimum you would shut down whatever zone you were in.

If you didn't get to use your shells because the patch caught you by surprise they said beast is coming back.  Shells will no longer drop though.

Ah good. I was really fucked off when I went to log in today and there was a patch.  I'd saved shells to farm the last 100 I needed tonight for a crimson box. At least now I can nab a legendary instead.

When patch days have always been Friday give some notice in game. Fuckers.

As I did for my extra hot dogs, etc. But when you had nearly enough to get a unique box and expected another day to farm you get a little irritated when the patch is a day early.

I actually really liked Champions Online's character/costume creation- light years better than DCUO.  That MMO really had some other good ideas- instead of fighting other humans in a bland cityscape, you were fighting zombies at a nuclear site or ghost cowboys in a ghost town.  Shit in every other way, but it taught me not to tolerate COH/DCUO "fighting thugs in gray parking garages" design.

Oh come on now, in City of Heroes you could fight zombies in sewers, zombies and ghosts in a misty abandoned section of the city, aliens, plant creatures, rock men.. it was a lot more than thugs.

I'm good on heroes at the moment and I'm nearing 600 splinters. I'm thinking about another Team-Up. I have Magik and Groot from somewhere. Magik is my go to generally, the LoH is handy early on. Is there another generalist team-up that would be a good idea?
