75% off, it is $10 right now. With f13 season 4 coming "soon" now is a good time to pick it up. It's a great spectacle, Bob!

I just bought this.

Now I have 4 digital copies of Blood Bowl. At least I no longer need to fire up Impulse at all. Which (I think) was a mental block to me playing the last copy of BB:LE I bought.

I played one game. The computer kicked my ass 3-0. I have no clue what I'm doing and didn't read the rules. Yet, it was still fun!  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

I need to read the rulebook.

Buy the game, play some games vs the AI to learn the interface and see different teams, then play in the online leagues. Sign up for season 4!

It's more of a tactical TBS than a sports game, really. Highly suggest reading the LRB and getting to understand caging basics and what the stats and skills do. I kinda get most of it and I'm probably the rawest newb from last season (because I didn't play at all outside the official league).

You will either run screaming from the game in frustration (at either the shitty shit dice rolls you get or the godawful fuckstupid interface) or you will love it even when it rips your heart out and shows it to you still beating.

Yeah, its best when you run screaming from it, but it still catches you and rips your heart out anyways.  In fact thats how Blood Bowl prefers it.

Yeah, I can't really get past how much a shitty roll can fuck you over.  To me this game is like EVE in that it's a lot more fun for me to read about other people playing than it is for me to actually play the game myself.

I won my second game I played. The game seems to be pretty simple to understand. I can certainly see where a move skilled team can absolutely dominate, but a match of like-skilled teams can be a strategic war.

Holy hell, I get the feeling I could spend the entire day trying to learn the little details of the game beyond basic gameplay and still not know it all before I went to bed tonight.

You really need to be into team building and stats if you want to enjoy this when Nuffle punches you in the groin. Have good humor about anything thrown your way or you'll quit mid-season.

The core skill in the game is minimizing risk, basically. And that is all the advice I will give you until after S4.  awesome, for real

Ignoring risk can be fun, too. It's basically the way Haem and I played season 3, just playing crazy odds for fun.

But you have to be aware it's why things are going against you often :) When it works, it's awesome and makes the vets crazy. But it doesn't work much.

My god this game is crazy frustrating.  Glad I read up a few things in the league and online or I'd have just given up entirely last night.  5 restarted campaigns later I'm starting to get the hang of the team that fits my playstyle, Dark Elves.

Almost did Chaos, but they couldn't actually hurt anyone I was up against - undead - so it just seemed like an exercise in futility.

Tutorial seems lacking.  Played through the tutorial, thought I had a good grasp on the basics.  Played a few exhibition matches, got completely utterly crushed and had no idea why or what was happening half the time.  ACK!

Blood Bowl is a hugely variable experience. Your team can do great against one team then come up against another team that is a bad matchup and you'd think you were playing with little baby kittens against battle tanks. The tutorial is pretty bad, in my experience, and the interface and GUI for the game really blows monkeys, making any frustration and confusion worse. Best bet to try to learn the game? Read the manual, start a few single-player campaigns with different teams, especially with very different styles of teams, and then play a few online multiplayer games with the completely variable asshattery of public games.

Then realize it'll be 20-30 games before you really get a grasp of the game enough to be considered mildly incompetent.  awesome, for real

Or you could bug people on Steam for feeder league or public games. I think (hope) it helped Hoax last season, as we played a number of times.
