If you go deep enough in the comments thread at Chris Sims' place for that (and other) critiques of Sims, you'll eventually come across Smith fanboys so devoted that they either defend this horrible, horrible piece of work or say, "WTF, it doesn't matter, all comics are stupid".

I'm a fan of pre-pot-Smith too, post-pot-Smith degenerated more and more into those caricatures of pot smokers. It was evident in his podcasts at that time (which I stopped listening because he was giggling in them like a retard about unfunny stuff he found hilarious) and obviously it still is true now.

He may have done some good stuff, but he needs to stay the hell away from comics. Some of that Marvel and DC stuff is just dreadful and he didn't really have any regard for turning out timely material.
But he's got some pull so he gets to post his fanfic on the actual title when it suits him.

I have a system regarding 'canon'. If I don't pick it up and read it, and it never gets mentioned again, then it never happened.
For example: Sentry - Fallen Sun. I suspect this will be the same..

Pretty much. Good story? It 'happened'. I don't care what's 'official'. Bad story, bad idea, bad characterization? It never happened. Even if it's 'official'.
