Looks like Blizzard wants to pull as many people in for Cataclysm by dropping everything pre-Cata to dirt cheap prices.

Regular WoW - $5
The Burning Crusade - $5
Wrath - $10

Wise of them. After people snap up all the old releases, they can roll them into one cheap package so to avoid the "Which expansions do I need?" crap.

Considering the changes made with Cataclysm, I'm sort of surprised that they haven't stuck some 60-70 zones in mainland Azeroth, and done something different with TBC, since it's still just about the most inexplicable expansion ever.

I guess I know what I'm doing this winter. Price of re-entry has always been my primary complaint about WoW. 58 hunter lfg!

They were asked about this at Blizzcon and said they had plans to 'fix' Outland, but that it wasn't going to be something they could get to right away.

One god damn week too late. Found WotLK for $18 since it's the only one I don't own aside from Cata. Meh...

I dont recall buying lich king, but my account has it, damn - I thought I was going to be 2 expansions behind. Or maybe it was a free trial or free month they offered with purchase.

I logged in and man, what a shock, my paladin plays a lot differently. I mean - the same, but, all my old icons were gone.

A thought occurred to me and indeed they are selling pre-orders of cataclysm at US prices... so 20$ (US/Aus, about the same) over AU retail. Win!

Kid went to download the WoW free trial yesterday with some friends (none of them has Win7, and none of them got any problem), and called me after a while cause he was getting a weird message. After installing and taking some time to do that, it kept giving him an error like "Can't rename wow.temp to wow.exe, FAIL!", canceling installation.

I told him to configure the installer to be run as admin, but didn't work. I checked online and seems you have to create a new Win7 user, give him/her Admin powers and try again. Didn't do that yet, but I was very surprised. I was really expecting Blizzard stuff to be flawless, or certainly not gamebreaking bad. I am sure we'll eventually find a workaround, but I cannot state enough how surprised I was. Please note this is not a Blizzard bashing post, just a genuinely surprise-sharing one.

Permissions on Wow folders and Win7 have been really goofy on my wife's machine.  Whenever something fails to patch or update it's invariably a permissions issue.

First thing I do to any windows 7 machine is completely disable UAC.  Everything will work flawlessly after that.

Imagine my surprise when I see in-game support for stereoscopic 3d! Niiice. The implementation is excellent.

Too bad the graphics cranked all the way up and in 3d still look like primitive shit. Seeing these graphics after years of gaming is shocking, I forgot how much I disliked them.

How do I assign pet commands to my hot bar? I can drag them off the pet ability screen, but they won't drop onto my ability bar (which I unlocked!).

Authenticator ordered, just in case.

Your pet should have his own dedicated bar, but frankly its been so long since I used the default UI that I really don't know how to enable it if it isn't enabled by default.

Easiest thing to do is install/move WoW to C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft.  I'm a little surprised it doesn't do that by default now as I remember either BC or Wrath giving me the option of moving the install over.

IMO, this is the perfect time for someone who hasn't played WoW yet (is there anyone who hasn't???) or stopped playing years ago to join.  Not only are the games themselves dirt cheap to buy, but the whole leveling experience has changed, seemingly for the better.  Maybe people that have been on the fence could just buy the orginal game to see what they think.  If they don't like it they would only have wasted $5.  Does anyone know if you can "gift" them like you can with Steam games and give them to someone else or are they tied into your account?  I suppose you could make a new BNET account but I would prefer to gift them from my account to a friend or family member who might be interested in playing.

Yeah, will admit this price change is making me think of maybe picking it up and checking it out for the first time. Was never interested in it enough otherwise, the open beta years back and then the free trial thing earlier this year were enough WoW for me.

Funny stuff, I played it for the first time for three months about a year ago. I just hoped back in. I don't have an issue with the graphics or anything. However I could easily see that it would feel old and dated if i had already played it to burnout levels.

I haven't played it to burnout levels. I had a lot of fun for the time I played at launch. It felt dated because I've played games released in the last six years.

The poly count was low for 2004, WoW is truly the LCD game. Great for business, I guess, and 3D runs screaming fast. But not so good for graphics whores.

Kid finally installed the game and I fiddled with it for.... 5 minutes before having to quit in disgust. I haven't touched it since 2005, and I was very curious to see how the whole thing would have felt on me now, and how it legitimally changed.

The combat doesn't even feel that visceral as I remembered, and it immediately felt like something that I played to death for a decade now. I mean, sure, it's a 6 years old game, but it's still incredibly popular. And I sincerely wonder how's that possible. Not that there's any other mmorpg worth playing as of 2010, but I wonder how can people still find that much fun in WoW, or any other EQ-derived game. It seriously amazes me.

I've been playing since '05 and still liking it. The graphics don't bug me but I've mentally come to accept them because they fit the world they're in and nothing looks or feels out of place. Now EQ2's graphics bug me. The character models even with the refreshed heads bug me. The refreshed Luclin(?) EQ models bugged me. I actually preferred the older though less defined EQ models. I'm guessing because I tend to shy away from things that start getting too near The Uncanny Valley. Or things that are just monstrously ugly.

What does bug me about WoW are the abrupt changes that get made to the game on a regular basis and make me totally change my play style. I'm old and get set in my ways. I don't like not being able to mix and match my talents from the get go now and frankly hate playing my mages anymore (all of which are admittedly low level - maybe it gets better). And now everybody can be anything? Let's go all the way and allow my lock to wear plate!

Edit: Dammit I forgot which thread I was in again and rambled. Cool sale.

Graphics are the least of my concerns, in fact I didn't even mention them.
