It's only the real stuff that makes me upset.  I love the horror genre of nearly everything (film, special effects, books, make-up, etc.) and if it's from a really camp and/or bad horror flick, I've probably seen it.  More than once.  awesome, for real  I didn't see whatever made this fuss, but as long as I don't have to see anything real tortured or killed, I'm good with this thread.

I've never understood how people even dig the fake stuff.  I'm not much into horror because it's either super silly (not really my thing) or, if realistic, not something I want to see.  I guess I can see the campy ones-  it's an odd sort of humor I suppose.  I do like horror genre books, but they're typically quite different than horror movies.

I don't know.  I can't remember not being into it.  I was barely a teen when I made my first latex monster mask.  I used to make my nephew's masks and do their make-up for Halloween.  Not just horror, though.  I did a really awesome Ming the Merciless for my nephew one year.

Did he really get banned for that pic of the girl getting lit on fire? What's the point of this thread if people are going to get in trouble for posting inappropriate images?

There have to be limits of some sort.  Besides, the first post explicitly states:

Here be the place to put NSFW stuff but don't put disgusting, gorey, etc. images/videos stuff here. I.e. this is not meant to be a dumping ground for the worst the Internet has to offer.

IMPORTANT: I'm not going to warn people who post horrible stuff in there before banning them so post in here at your own risk awesome, for real

T&A stuff goes here:

http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=14256.0

That said I don't know about a ban, maybe just a deletion, warning and such.

There is a term for that, it's torture porn and generally the movies are terrible at anything but shock value.

Seriously, I think it is pretty clear at this point that this forum should not even have a thread like this. Too many sandy orifices.  There are other places on the internet where one can go to be grossed out and or shocked.  I am totally fine with this place staying with the way it's always been.

And your description of that would be....?

I'm all for getting rid of this thread if people are going to put gross/horrifying shit in it.  The funny sex jokes and stuff like that are just fine.

In all the years I have come here, it has been relatively free or shock, horror, or disgust. The worst things have been a thread on spiders, a wonderful thread with boobies in it, and the entire politics section.  For me this forum has always been about watching a tiny group of conservatives get shredded by some seriously liberal group think. Which is fine because they had it coming anyways. Oh, and sometimes there is information about games.

To be honest, I kinda like this thread. It added a bit of spice, and I knew I wasn't going to be exposed to /r/wtf . Unfortunately, the latest RK gif crossed the line. There's a reason we post here and not on 4chan or reddit. Its a community that's self-curated over years and years and we like to think we have some taste. I laughed at 90% of what RK posted and I thought it was well within bounds. He shouldn't be banned for one poor choice, IMHO.

He should, however, ask himself why someone getting burned is funny to him.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

While there was some basic rules stated, the rules needed to be more clearly defined in a thread like this, instead of going off of some internal line drawn in the head of a moderator that is not available for people to see.

Also don't misunderstand my tone or stance, I think the moderators here do a great job and I am not trying to attack any of them.

Have you met, Speedy, or Brogdarn or however you spell his name. There were others too but they either left or got banned, or started keeping their mouth shut.

Hell, I was soundly conservative when I first started coming here, but I was quickly pistol whipped into submission and am now a happy liberal guy that has had an honest change of heart.

Unfortunately, the latest RK gif crossed the line.

Um, it wasn't rk who posted that.

(edit)

And just for the record, I'm kind of tired of the general piling on of rk.  Some folks need to grow up a little.  Not saying this is you, Engels, but the automatic assumption that if it was offensive rk must have done it is a product of all that constant whining.

I'd say a good rule of thumb is, don't post stuff purely with the intent of squicking other people out for your own amusement.  Personally, I don't get easily squicked out, but I do understand the difference between "funny and might incidentally squick someone out" and "funny only insofar as it squicks everyone else out".  If I suspect I might be straying over that line, I don't post it here, and I'd expect intelligent people to do likewise.

I kind of thought the flaming Jackass thing was funny, personally, but the fingerskullfucking a creepy undead girl had no redeeming value other than squick factor.  Sandy vaginas were inevitable.  Shoulda known better.

Well now I feel like an idiot. It was probably RK's fault, however, what with leading poor souls into perdition with his postings. It was only a matter of time before a wee one tried to live up to RK's level of twattitude and flew too high.

Not meant as a dig and actually I got it wrong, I was thinking of the basement from Ltm.  A place is clearly marked "here be dragons" then people go in and get upset about their britches being on fire.

I stopped looking at the sex thread because I got tired of seeing naked women.  I'm sure I'll start "reading" it again eventually.  I was upset at some posts because I saw stuff that made me a bit sick.  Having said that, they didn't make most other people sick and this is not MY thread so I probably shouldn't have even agreed that the dead deer one should have been deleted.  In between the confusion and eye wash with bleach, RK makes me laugh.  A LOT!  Please don't ban him ever!  Unless he's mean to me then shoot the motherfucker in the junk.

PS  I don't like torture porn much at all (only watched the first Saw).  I absolutely ADORE horror or Sci Fi creature features.

I guess there's a difference between the macabre and "fake torture".  Movies like The Saw and Hostel just seem downright stupid to me.

For me the line there is this: Watch the TV edit for SAW and you still have a movie that's intriguing and keeps you watching to see what happens next.  Watch the TV edit of Saw(n) or Hostel and you have about 20 minutes of film that makes no sense.

And if you really have to ask what the community's taste is and why even that "LOL Jackass" gif was over the line, some time away from the internet would do you some good.  As is shown by the 'things I miss' thread, we're old farts.  Shit like that stopped being funny about the time our balls dropped.

Good point Merusk. A lot of people forget that the first Saw movie was a largely psychological horror, and not the gore fest the series became.

We had the "OMG GET IT OUT" discussion about that .GIF a few pages back if I recall.  Lots of "that's inappropriate" comments and whatnot.  No one was banned for it then though.

Yeah, we saw that bit with the flaming chick a long time ago.  Wasn't funny (I think it was in the Funny Pictures thread before it had a SFW rule) but it's hardly banworthy.  The woman volunteered for the stupid stunt, and holding her down while they put the flames out (rather than letting her run around on fire) was the only smart thing anybody in that mess did.

That's a really shitty ban from what I understand of it.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

A ban for posting a NSFW thing in a not safe for work thread seems rather ridiculous. Deleting the post and giving a warming would have been a much more prudent action considering the extremly vague rules. Oh well.
