I was hoping that they just hadn't got around to updating the prices yet.  Wasn't Medieval 2 already at $4.99 for this sale?

Edit: In fact, they just changed the prices.

Ah, I see now.  Updated prices in the first post.

Man, I want Street Fighter 4, but know I really need to buy it for my PS3 and not PC.  Now if only somebody would offer me a PS3 version of it for $10  Ohhhhh, I see.

Edit:  And yes, your right, MT2 was up for $5 before.  I know because I purchased it.

Great. Civ IV doubled in price. For some reason, apparently on Steam's end (according to my bank), my card was declined to purchase it. Do they cockblock you from making multiple purchases in the same day?

Oh well, guess I'll have to be happy with Torchlight and Portal for the time being.

Might have been trouble with their service in the rush yesterday.  When I went to make my purchase, it didn't go through, and I got an e-mail from steam saying my card was declined for an unknown reason.  I promptly went back in and tried to buy them again, and it worked fine (I was also buying the Civ4 pack).

Shattered Horizon really excited me until I learned it had no bot support whatsoever -- no co-op, no single-player practice mode.

Nothing repulses me from a game like having to learn how to play it in front of an audience of anonymous internet assholes telling me how much I suck.

Nothing in this post represents the views of my current or previous employers.

Given that it's already $4.99, I'm not sure anyone is playing the game.

So you wouldn't have to worry about that.

I tried 10+ times yesterday to buy the Civ4 pack with multiple credit cards and every time it was declined.  No response from steam support either.  That pisses me right off.  That was probably the sale item I was most interested in so far.

Ok, so I'm glad that I'm not the only one and that I gave up after five tries.

Are you cancelling or hitting back or something? My order seemed to lag out, but I just left steam sitting there and it went through ok after a couple minutes.

Fuck you, Steam!  awesome, for real

Just bought MW2, Shattered Horizons, and the Crysis pack....you know, because it comes out to less than $25.

Anything in particular I should know about/do with MW2, so I don't have to slog through the lengthy thread?

Weirdness, worked fine for me (first time) when I ordered it from their website while at work yesterday.

Although they refused to give me yesterday's price, they did manage to fix my issue. Currently waiting on Civ IV MEGAPAK, Freedom Force and The Witcher ZOMG Edition.

Anyone played both AI War and Sword of the Stars and could offer an opinion on which is better? Unless they show up on the hotlist I probably won't get both.

Sale o' the day:

RedLynx Trials 2: Second Edition - $2.49
Mass Effect - $4.99
Devil May Cry 4 - $22.49
DOOM Pack Complete - $13.59
Sam & Max Complete - $14.99
Portal - $4.99

Definitely recommend Mass Effect for anyone that hasn't played it yet. If you haven't played Portal yet may god have mercy on your soul.  I may have no choice but to give Trials 2 a shot at that price.

Anyone know if ME2 will be on Steam at release? Or, if the Steam version of ME will be able to do the character export thing into a hard copy of ME2?

Like Dragon Age, the save games go into My Documents so it shouldn't matter if your copy of ME is from retail, Steam or whatever.

Excellent. I was hoping Mass effect would go on sale. It can join Bioshock in my " RPG'ishclassics I missed" pile.

Excellent price for portal, but I can't think of anyone to give it too.

This steam sale is really just highlighting how if you already have stuff to play, there's almost no point in buying PC games on release anymore. The only exception would be things you nedd to play NOW. And there's very little that can't wait 6 months to a year.

That's the frugal way to do it, yes. Though even then there are games that do hold their value, or at least don't get discounted, for a long time so it's a toss up. However I think the number of people who will shop that way are convincingly outnumbered by the "must have it now!" or the couldn't be stuffed waiting crowd.

I mean after all, logically, pre-orders make no sense at all. Paying money for a game that isn't known to be good and hasn't even been released makes no sense. But they still sell them.

I think that despite having completed the game twice on the 360, I will have to get the Steam version so that I can finally try out a truly evil douchebag Shepard. I didn't have the heart for it earlier.

It's not even really that you're evil, you're just a colossal asshole that really loves to solve all issues with DEATH.  It was pretty easy for me, and I tend to have problems playing the bad guy.

I bought it on the PC just so I could play ME2 properly on the PC (2 completions on the 360 as well).   Well, unless it comes out the that PC version is a bad port or would run really poorly on my machine.   I'd just like to avoid turning on my 360.

Here we go, not stating prices since I doubt most of you are in the UK.

Trine
Morrowind GOTY
Painkiller Complete Pack
Red Alert 3
CS: Source

75% off everything apart from RA3, which is 66%.

Picking up Trine. Not sure about Morrowind. I loved that game, but I don't think I have the time to play it like I used to  awesome, for real.

I'm going to assume that buying Eve online (in a moment of weakness and curiosity) is not connected with activating it. So it can sit in my not installed pile until I've exhausted fallen earth.

Also threw in audio-surf and osmos with mass effect. Audio surf is half toy and half game but works really well. Osmos i'm not so sure about.

So currently thats fallen earth, torchlight, bioshock, mass effect, STALKER:clear sky and eve all sitting in the waiting pile. That will probably take me most of the year given I'm still playing wow and it has an upcoming expansion.  Heart steam.

Some temptation to buy CS:Source, but I suspect it's full of people far too good at it. Not sure I have the time to be competitive. Loved playing original CS though.
