Why do you all have so much shit?
Long and fruitful lives. Also a void inside our souls that cannot be filled.

What's it like being a monk and how did you find this website? I actually empathize with Goreschach. Considering my age, I own surprisingly little. I think it's the result of so many moves coupled to my hatred for packing. Everytime I move, a dumpster gets filled.

My desk is likely not photo worthy. It's the same Crate & Barrel desk I've had for the last 9 years and mostly just has desk-like stuff on it. And a Lynyrd Skynyrd album for some reason..

I do that too. What little I do own is still in boxes. If anyone demanded to see my diplomas, I'm not sure I could produce them. Yes... it's really that bad.

Diplomas would make it into my desk shot! They look good framed. About all they're useful for.

I am suspicious you don't have that void-in-the-soul thing. Alright, this Rebel XTi takes huge fucking pictures. I almost posted them but DAMN so I just cut them to 50% in Paint.NET and hope that's good enough. You should be able to see plenty of telling details. Do cats instinctively know when you're taking a photo of your desk?
They know when you do EVERYTHING. I still can't get over how thick Engels monitor is. " We call it, deep dish." I call it "old as hell." 2 years old is old as hell? It still is selling for a grand and a bit, down from 1.2 I think. The thickness is a product of the tech behind it being more complex than your average TN monitor. You won't find it at Best Buy.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

If I ever decide to buy a camera, I'll post some photos so you can see how exquisitely empty my temple house is.
But I don't really understand the draw of collecting so much stuff. I much prefer throwing stuff out to collecting it.

People with houses with almost nothing in them weird me out. Same as people who have a living room set aside for 'company' that no one is allowed into, with everything tasteful and perfect. Throw pillows just so, coffee table books neatly placed.
Creepy.

My peripherals are fine, this blue Razer is fine, even that Logitech trackball is fine although it doesn't have a middle button. Headphones? Fine. Nostromo? Fine, just not a daily-use peripheral.
Alright, my speakers suck but I can't turn the sound up anyway.

Eh, the mouse and KB are both decent Razer pieces. I know you use your much-loved Model M's (actually found a few in a buddy's basement last week), the comment was towards some other people. I don't even care, just surprised, since this is really a higher-brow and discerning crowd.

I'm kind of an un-cluttered desk guy, I have lots of stuff but I try to keep it off my desk. The odd coffeecup, DVD, CD etc end up in a pile some days but I have bad dust allergies and I have to strip the desk down at least once a fortnight to keep the gray at bay. Also since this is where I do the majority of my drawing I need space to do so easily. Not quite in picture: hugeass bookshelf full of books, coffeetableporn, art materials, comics and crap. Under desk: home theatre subwoofer, lots of sketchbooks and even more dust. Also, my phone camera sucks.

Now that I'm looking at it, I hate to take a picture with the tangle of wires behind my av stack that I never got around to finalizing after I moved in (hey, it's only been a little over a year). I normally get pretty picky about that stuff. Now it's driving me nuts. Thanks!

^^^ Also, what size is your tablet? It looks like maybe a 6x8? Just guessing, also just assuming that's a tablet, since you said you draw at your desk.

^^^ Also, what size is your tablet? It looks like maybe a 6x8? Just guessing, also just assuming that's a tablet, since you said you draw at your desk. Mostly character design/concept work and illustration. I tend to work in pencil in sketchbooks or decent mgs paper, scan and colour digitally using the tablet (which is a Wacom Intuos3 A4... uhm. 13"x8" worksurface? Screwy US papersizes!). Sometimes ink, sometimes paint oldschool, but pencil-digital is my usual method. Now, if I could get paid to do this crap... Here's something icky I'm sketching up atm. Designing demons is fun if you've got the stomach for it.

I'm still unpacking into a new house, so be warned that these pictures are of an incomplete (missing gear, blinds, a decent chair) and unnaturally tidy workspace. I still love my boring 5' and 6' folding tables for work surfaces though and will likely keep them.
Desks, gaming computer, cablemodem, firewall (soekris 4801 w/ m0n0wall), laptop, work surface: 45 linear feet of bookshelves (need more), wireless access point:

Those tables aren't classy, but they serve their purpose. My friend has 4 or 5 in his basement which we regularly turn into a mess of computers a couple times a year. We've thought about springing for nicer tables, but then we realized we've been using those tables for almost 10 years, why get rid of 'em now? I also love the clamps on your bookshelf.

Exactly. The tables pictured are over nine years old, still working great. They even have nice rubber boots on the feet so they don't scratch up the floor. Got a few extras folded up in the garage for when there's a need for tabletop gaming or projects or whatnot. The clamps are temporary -- the small bookshelf is sitting on a slightly unlevel bit of floor and really needs to be shimmed a bit to sit straight alongside the neighboring shelves. I didn't have anything suitable for that, but did have some C clamps. Good enough for the time being. I have room for one more (small) shelving unit along that wall, and need to anchor the shelves to the wall so they are less likely to fall on me and kill me in the event of an earthquake.
