Dude, the club is by far the very worst weapon in the game.
I love when I pull it out when my enemy has a sliver of health left, then I proceed to whiff repeatedly until he kills me.

I avoid players with low health now. I find that picking the strong players usually works best. If they have high strength, they tend to be slow with low agility. Of course, I lose those fights too.

Since I got tough skin + armor, I try to fight people with a high speed, on the theory that my armor gives me better odds against people who hit me a lot for a little damage each time than against people who hit me a little for a lot of damage each time. It works sometimes.
It's also good to avoid people with names like "mydude173", because you know that's the guy who made 173 different dudes until he got a bear or something equally horrible.

I've got to say, it's annoying having seen how effective my brute's halberd is that he's decided not to use it for the last 8 or so fights. I guess that ties into the annoying automatedness of fights but it's just ridiculously frustrating to see the AI being purposefully retarded (2 weapons available, one gets knocked out so it sticks with fists for the rest of the fight).
