South Park peaked in its first season IMO.
You haven't watched a full season since the first, IMO. I'm no great defender of southpark, but I feel like it didn't hit its stride until at best, season 3. Now, none of the seasons may have been as consistent as the first, but this would be due to production more than anything else.

When you realize how old south park is, you may find this statement depressing. Oh, I realize it. There's a reason I don't jump all over the new episodes as soon as they're released. They're still kind of funny sometimes, but I don't think I've gotten a good belly laugh out of South Park in years. I watched South Park religiously for the first few seasons at least. I think I started to lose interest around when Kenny stopped dying.

I'd still rather watch South Park then Simpsons, Cleveland Show, and Family Guy. I still like me some American Dad though.

Interestingly enough, I used to enjoy the occasional episode Family Guy when I would catch it on TV, but South Park's deconstruction ruined that entirely. I can't watch the show at all without thinking about manatees in a water tank.

The most recent episode was hilarious.
Making fun of the internet has always been a strong suit for them.

Generational maybe? I was nearly bawling most of the episode. Seriously, fuck farmville.

None of the recent episodes have had me cracked up anything special, but they have all been hugely enjoyable to watch and much better than a lot of the fare over the last 3 seasons or so.

That's because Comedy Central butchered it.

Apparently so. The whole thing was an homage to basically all the big episodes and simultaneously established that South Park actually has some sort of continuity rather than constant status quo. The Batman homage was cool too, Scott Tenorman had one bad day.
Edit: So apparently all the beeps and censored spots were added by Cartoon Network including the censored signs and the final speech. Which makes not a huge amount of sense on their parts, especially since Matt and Trey seems to be suggesting that they weren't really consulted. I'm honestly not sure whether CN butchered the show or Matt and Trey are just fucking with the fans.

FIFY (CN -> CC) And yeah, according to their website the entire ending speech had nothing to do with Muhammed and was still censored. The speech was supposedly about intimidation and fear. I'm also wondering if it is just them fucking around with the fans since I find it hard to type the words "I can't see Matt and Trey censoring themselves like this," when I could see them doing so if it was worthwhile.

All the beeping was fucking horrible to sit through at the end. Its one thing for Comedy Channel to wimp out to some stupid threat, but they could've at least found a less headache inducing way to censor it.

They should have gotten the most whiny guy in the office to say "Cartoon Network is full of pussies" over and over again.

Yeah, I was struggling to work out if it was supposed to be satirical, or the heavy hand of the network.

It's confusing because I think there were some parts that were deliberate, such as placing the "censored" block over the image of Muhammed, which was there in the first part of the story too. When it appeared over Tom Cruise, that was clearly a joke put in by the South Park creators.
Then there was all the beeping, which I guess was put in by the network. But it's really hard to imagine what those final speeches could have involved that meant every word had to be beeped out.

Well according to the creators it was a speech about not giving into fear and intimidation that didn't even mention Muhammad. Which is why I don't understand why the network would have censored the whole thing, leading me to conclude 1) It's a deliberate troll by Matt and Trey, 2) It's a network censor who decided what they were being asked to do was ridiculous and went full retard to make the whole thing a joke or 3) Despite their protestations Matt and Trey actually threw in an offensive spiel at the end.
3) seems the least likely to me.

Well Matt and Trey released this press release:
In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it.

201 was completely pulled in the UK, can't even access it via SouthParkStudios. Pulled in the UK, for fuck's sake. We've been laughing at terrorism for more than a hundred years - to back down in this manner is very little short of humiliating.

Nascar/Vagisil episode was a complete damp squib, though that might be purely because Nascar has pretty much zero following in the UK so the joke is largely lost on us.
Not that I'm begrudging Stone and Parker, it's not as if the last 1 and a half seasons of South Park haven't been unfeasibly brilliant up till now - it's got to be tough keeping the bar that high.

Not understanding how most Americans view the American Southern state would certainly make you miss most of the jokes about NASCAR in that episode.

Despite being a filthy Euro, I have lived in the south, and I got pretty much everything in the Nascar episode and loved it. I can see the validity of the complaint though, Nascar is about as familiar to the lay UK populace as Cricket is to the lay American audience.

I don't consider it a bad episode if a lot of people didn't 'get' it though, it's still funny. The jersey shore one though I got and just felt sort of 'meh' about. It had its moments but I just felt like there wasn't enough to it beyond "lets make fun of the jersey shore" the ending however did make me laugh hard.

I understand Nascar and the culture surrounding it enough to get the joke, I just didn't think it was particularly funny. South Park's already done other redneck sports better. The whole Vagisil thing was laboured, too. Watching Cartman eat the stuff was amusingly appalling, mind you.

The highlight of the last episode for me had to be the Jersey Shore guy still holding up his shirt while Randy was kicking the shit out of him.

Last night's episode has some funny moments, but I think people that actually saw Inception would find it a lot more funny. I haven't but I still got some laughs out of all the explanations and the sheep hoarding.
