So when is this thread going to get moved to politics? I protest my way, which involves liberal amounts of shoulder-checking of people who see I'm going to stand in their way but dont want to go around. I'd hardly call running around yelling at people and being a dickhead about a topic you know hardly anything nor care all that deeply about as 'protesting'; just another one of those wankers using it as an excuse to demonstrate your antisocial wankerish tendencies.

It's all about views clashing with views, as long you don't go overboard and start shooting and burning like those Indonesians. Can't believe they wanted to ban a shitload of popular social sites out there just because of one Dutch vid.

You don't see signs saying "We want a return to a theocracy based caste system with institutionalised serfdom and slavery, and we want it now!" http://discussions.pbs.org/viewtopic.pbs?t=68073A very good counter argument to the Independent Tibet cause on that forum. It doesn't tow the party line by any means, no one denies human rights abuse by China, but economically and culturally perhaps Tibet isn't so bad off after all. Points to note, the continuation of the caste system practiced by the Tibetan government in exile, the Dalai Llamas connections to the CIA and Department of State, the impact of westernization over the supposed sinocization and facts and figures regarding Tibet since the Chinese invasion. Thank you for the link. However, are there any arguments which address the legitimacy of China retaining control over Tibet?

I still don't get why people are trying to fuck up the torch run because they don't like China. It's the Olympic Games.

So when is this thread going to get moved to politics? I'd hardly call running around yelling at people and being a dickhead about a topic you know hardly anything nor care all that deeply about as 'protesting'; just another one of those wankers using it as an excuse to demonstrate your antisocial wankerish tendencies. Lameros, its called I dont support the government they are there supporting. For a myriad of reasons, a major one being they are freedom of the people hating fuckwads. I think that their government is actually worse then my own very bad government. So yes I'm going to piss in their Cheerios when they take to my streets to celebrate how great the PRC is and call it protesting. What some piece of shit like you thinks it should be termed instead of protesting is beyond irrelevant, thanks for playing though. I still don't get why people are trying to fuck up the torch run because they don't like China. It's the Olympic Games.
Trolling me Paelos, that's not very Christian of you! "Tibet has always been and always will be part of China!" - Strange wiki says it was taken over in like the 50's or something? More educated preaching people point out that Tibet had slavery before they took it over, in the 50's.
That's the People's Republic of China, which was invented around 100 years ago. They are ostensibly making this claim based on Manchurian dynastic control. Its like the Zionists claiming Palestine based on King David's reign or the National Socialists in Germany claiming Poland et. al. based on the extent of the Prussian Empire... or any one of two billion Balkan land claims. I don't suppose that there is a country in the world that cannot look into its past and find a time where they ruled some bit of land that they don't now. But when you're bigger than the rest of the kids in the playground or the big kids are supporting your claim, it tends to work. I'm the first to admit, the timeline is/was lost on me, its hard to find any good info on such a hotbutton issue. Some people told me, it was always china, some people told me they had slavery before china took over. Had I been a little more prepared (regret that I wasn't) I would have asked why they can't just have their own stupid religion, or better yet, what happened to the Chinese Muslims? But I wasn't. I'm still not clear on the full history of Tibet, but again I only tossed my lot in with the Tibet people because they were best organized to stop the physical progress of the torch, which is what I wanted to be a part of. They gave me a sticker, so when I was "disagreeing" with the pro-PRC folks they read the sticker as I was some hardcore Tibet guy and debated me accordingly. In hindsight I would have done things a bit differently in terms of prep work on my facts ahead of time & clarifying whose side I was on and why a bit better. PS. The Darfur people were the real bandwagon culprits, there were a ton of them all in green but they were all bitches. We tried to get them to march the parade route with us but they wanted to just stand behind the baracades, hold signs and see the torch. Fucking buncha white people who probably got organized by Starbucks..

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

I'm not trolling you; I'm dead serious. There is a logical disconnect for me at molesting a guy running a torch and defending Tibet's honor. If you're mad at China, protesting the games is one thing, but spitting on traditions that are supposed to reflect togetherness and sport have nothing to do with it.

About religion, it's against Communist principles so it had to go.
Also, this thread is indeed on the hairy edge of being moved to Politics by me. Can't do that from the Blackberry, though.

Since I've been wanting to talk about this for awhile anyways, and don't want to further inflame politics on the general board, I started a fresh thread in Politics. Should probably take the dick slapping that way.

I'll head over to Politics. The whole torch run tradition is one post away from an invocation of Godwin's anyway, and that's not very polite in the general forum.
