Potentially goes in the political pics, but hopefully this doesn't get shit up because I really do think these are awesome pics in general - even without the soldier(s) being present. The fog is actually dust from a nearby landing helicopter.

Most likely defanged, he's too nonchalant around them for them to have teeth.

They may be defanged, but can you imagine the job of defanging? That's gotta be a drag. "Hey Bob, got a new barrel of cobras. Get the mits and hop to it."

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I'm not an animal rights nut but I imagine "defanging" involves snapping teeth off with a pair of plyers so I hope they get bit.

I would think they would probably use something more like the Toenail Clippers for dogs or something like that.  Going at it with pliers seems like it would have a much higher chance of ripping the teeth right out.

Since we're all guessing and not actually looking it up somewhere:  I would think just trimming them down with clippers of some kind might still not do the trick.  They are basically hollow tubes that simply need to pierce the skin in order to squirt their venom.  Seems you would need to do something fairly drastic in order to make them safe to be around.  Wouldn't you want the fangs removed entirely?

I'm not sure I want to know, because it seems needlessly cruel, but why would anyone want to de-fang a snake anyway?

At a guess it's because he does not enjoy being bitten by snakes but his work requires him to be around them a lot to frighten tourists.

Defanging snakes with those kinds of venom delivery systems involves pulling the fangs out from the root.

And they grow back, so you have to do it again. With elapids, that's kind of plausible, the fangs are short and don't have the elaborate biomechanical apparatus of vipers. With vipers, you'd probably kill them if you pulled out the whole fang.

There are people who have developed semi-immunity to the particular venom of cobras, kraits, etc. through several bites or injections but this is a non-recommended strategem.

*Insert iocane powder reference here*

I think they may also defang snakes that they use to milk venom from, but not sure.

I'm fine with doing horrible things to venomous snakes though, so don't really care about the method.   awesome, for real
