I finally got the kruber last night after bonesawing my 50th fleeing medic.  The ubersaw probably isn't going to happen any time soon, but I'm okay with that.  Once I've got the million healing points I'm going to count myself a graduate of medic school and go back to my old favorite classes, I think.

Oh, and the kruber is  DRILLING AND MANLINESS.  Not always as practical as invuln, but god damn is it fun, especially on a soldier.

Jewing* the accomplishments couldn't possibly give the same high as grinding real live people as if they were EQ trash mobs.  And having them be present when I ding so they can congratulate me on levelling off their unwilling bodies.

I just grinded out level 55 from 27 in less than 7 playsessions in COD4 on a 52 person Shipment map.

I feel pretty damn good.

Now that grinding has been officially adopted by multiple FPSes, I'm just going back to JRPGs.

If grinding mobs in RPGs were 1/10th as fun as shooting scouts with the needle gun, I'd play a lot more RPGs.  And shooting scouts with the needle gun sucks balls.

I imagine it's not that tough if you're on an achievement server and they're meekly queueing up to get their shots... but I also don't imagine you get as much satisfaction from taunting over their perforated corpses then, so meh.

Decided to add to this post instead of creating a new reply.

Surprised no one posted it yet but Pyro is next!

Quote
One of the new weapons, dubbed the Axtinguisher, does about half the damage as the standard axe but will guarantee a critical hit when striking enemies set ablaze by the Pyro's flamethrower. The update included concept art of this new weapon.

Isn't a critical hit only double damage?  Double times a half equals...

The Axtinguisher is unimaginative and stupid.

It should've killed automatically.

And been half the length of a regular axe. With a giant axe head. And hydraulics. Why? Because they're awesome.

Because the ideal thing for the pyro to do when chasing a fleeing enemy is to switch weapons away from his primary damage-dealer to close-range melee.  Will it work on anything besides heavies and extremely stupid players?

I just hope the Axtinguisher isn't the best of the new pyro weapons.  Where are my napalm grenades?

The weapon doesn't look too bad to me; I use my axe a lot since I realized it's got a higher DPS than my flamer at point blank.  Remains to be seen if it'll be worth the hassle of weapon swapping all the time for the relatively small damage boost.

I'm wondering what exactly the pyro achievements are going to be, though.  "Set ten guys on fire" "Set ten guys on fire, uh, backwards?" "Set ten guys on fire... or wait, no, set nine guys on fire, then kill one, and then set a tenth guy on fire...." "BURN IT ALL FIRE FIRE FIRE HEH HEH HEH"

Whatever they are, the idea of joining a 2fort map with ten pyros on each side makes my head hurt.

Killing people underwater with your axe is going to be on there, I bet.

Whatever it is, it's got to be better than the medic "uber a guy and pray he does THIS" achievements.

Be healing a teammate while he achieves and achievement?

That's seriously fucked up.

That's one of the relatively easy ones that I got without trying.  On the other hand, try "uber a scout and have him kill three people before the uber runs out".

Reading this thread and watching the griefer videos made me realize I have missed something big. I have never played TF2 as I never really liked any Valve games (not even HL, Deus Ex was my thing) except CS back in the days, but this just looks so god damn awesome.

The healing while uber one will be even easier as the other classes get their unlocks. In a Robin Walker interview he talked about how the medic achievements were very experimental. They tried a wide variety to see what worked in a multiplayer setting. Theoretically they learned a lot and they think the pyro set will work out better.

To me TF2 seems like a step backwards from Enemy Territory.

I liked the Portal demo so I got the Orange Box. I played Portal and loved it. Played TF2 for a few hours, haven't even tried HL yet.

I played the HL2 demo before, to me it's just another FPS game. The gravity gun was kind of cool but it felt really off physics-wise. FPS just isn't my thing I guess.

TF2 didn't impress me at all. The objective-based maps in ET are better, getting experience and powering up as you go through a campaign is better than achievements. The TF2 maps are really annoying to me.

I should have known better, I don't like many FPS games. But it seemed like such a good deal. Ended up being $50 for Portal.

I didn't really enjoy Half-Life 2 either, but TF2 was awesome for the first few months when everyone was playing and trash talking.  Then Call of Duty happened and fuck you guys.

On a topic related to the medic achievements, here are the binds to swap unlocked weapons without going to the menu:

Code:
alias "switchSyringegun" "vampire"
alias "vampire" "equip 5 0 0;alias switchSyringegun needler;wait5;slot1" //equips syringe gun
alias "needler" "equip 5 0 1;alias switchSyringegun vampire;wait5;slot1" //equips blutsauger

alias "switchMedigun" "invuln"
alias "invuln" "equip 5 1 0;alias switchMedigun crits;wait5;slot2" //equips medigun
alias "crits" "equip 5 1 2;alias switchMedigun invuln;wait5;slot2" //equips kritzkrieg

alias "switchBonesaw" "uber"
alias "uber" "equip 5 2 0;alias switchBonesaw bone;wait5;slot3" //equips bonesaw
alias "bone" "equip 5 2 3;alias switchBonesaw uber;wait5;slot3" //equips ubersaw

bind "4" "switchSyringegun"
bind "5" "switchMedigun"
bind "6" "switchBonesaw"]

Le bump.

Medic unlock requirements lowered to match the pyro.

So if you're like me and you just did the medic achievements that didn't require getting help from the other team, odds are you've got a shiny new ubersaw waiting for you now.   awesome, for real

Yeah that was nice.  Played a medic without reading the updates and instantly got the 3 milestones heh.
