Dunno how reliable this is, and I'm assuming it's not just talking about 360 achievements.

These have been leaked or half-leaked for awhile, in fact some people were even getting them already on Steam or so the rumour goes.  So far I've seen a few achievements unlocking recently sort of often:  Team Doctor and Flamethrower.  I really don't care enough to figure it all out.  More Medic achievements is bad though because I'm an awesome medic but I only play it if nobody else is.  Looks like I wont be practicing for awhile.

How about introducing new maps and gameplay types instead of achievements?

I forgot this is Valve, the achievment team has probably been working on this for a year while the mapping team just started working again.  It'll take awhile for new real content.

Edit: Capitalized the thread title because it looks better.

You should really play Labor, that is the first new map that is much better then many of the old maps.

A rotation with Labor, Dustbowl, Hydro, Gravel Pit and the occasional Castle/Well/2Fort/Mach2/Granary is pretty sweet.  I know that many don't like Hydro but with a higher level of competition it actually plays pretty damn well.  You just need at least 1 preferably 2 or 3 pro spies per team.  Then it really opens up as a map instead of going turtle happy.  Also its one of the best SD maps, I really keep hoping that servers will start disabling engies during sudden death, would make it so much better.

apparently it's not just achievements but some major gameplay changes to the medic as well (other classes will get the tweaks eventually).  Wonder what the change is gonna be.

Oh yeah and new maps in 2 months-ish.

The gameplay changes to the medic is the addition of an ubercharge removal for the opposing team.

No one's sure of the exact mechanics, but it's rumored to swap your stored ubercharge for theirs in a very quick process, probably by targeting an enemy who is currently ubercharged and rightclicking to dump yours into it, canceling that percentage.

Would be nice if they got rid of that retarded "Shoot yourself in the balls with a missile to help the medic charge his beam" thing that takes up the first thirty seconds of every match, while they're at it.

They already got rid of that four patches ago.

When I sit at the start of each mission watching soldiers shoot themselves in balls for what is now no reason at all, I see it as an elegant metaphor for the soldier's mental condition. So please don't share patch notes with them, you'll spoil my enjoyment.

I shoulda posted this sooner, but they finally announced what the achievements are for. They are giving all the classes two new alternate weapons that they players can choose from a loadout menu. The medic is the first to get new toys. Getting half the class achievements unlocks the first new item, getting all of them gets you the second.

I'd be bitter if not for the fact that ctf_well was the only map I was missing from the original lineup.  So... yay for laziness!

And these achievements get you:

Quote
The Blutsaugher
For players that earn one third of the 36 new medic achievements, they will be given a new syringe gun. Called "The Blutsaugher," this new weapon no longer has the ability to score critical hits against an opponent. Instead it will draw health from enemies each time a syringe hits. Especially useful as a weapon to retreat away from the fight while staying alive.

The Critzcrieg
Once a medic has earned two thirds of the achievements, they will be granted "The Critzcrieg." This new medigun uses its ubercharge not for invulnerability, but to give its recipient 100% chance to fire critical ordinance. Medics and the player they are charging need to be careful though, because as much fun as it is to fire critical rockets as fast as you can, the other team will see what you're up to and try to put a quick stop to your plan.

The Ubersaw
For the determined medic that has earned all 36 of the new achievements, they will find themselves the proud owner of "The Ubersaw," which will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it directly to ubercharge. Four hits with this new weapon will fully charge whatever medigun the medic has equpped.

These weapons replace your existing ones, they are not in addition.

While I like the idea behind the new weapons, I think that this kind of thing has no real place in a FPS like TF2.

I'll hold on my vote till I can play with them. Valve is generally pretty good about playtesting stuff like this, so I suspect they will be balanced. The only thing I don't get is I don't see a trade off with the ubersaw. If you don't want to use the other two it looks like it would be dumb not to use the ubersaw, and at least at first blush I'd much rather have invulnerability over guaranteed crits or a bit of healing.( this is all based on my recollection that you can only use one alternate weapon, which may have changed )

I don't see weapon swapping as the devil, as long as all the weapons are equally balanced. The ubersaw concerns me for that reason.

I think the point of the ubersaw is simply to replace your saw completely. You have to get all 36 achievements. ALL 36. You won't see that many ubersaws. Especially since Medic is pretty meh to begin with.

First, medic is le awesome you savage.

Second, apparently the ubersaw has a 20% reduction in attack speed.

Third, indeed, we won't be seeing many ubersaws. Here is the official achievements list.

Quadruple Bypass: Heal a teammate who's taking fire from 4 enemies at once.
Group Health: Work with 2 other medics to deploy 3 simultaneous uber-charges.
Surgical Prep: Have an uber-charge ready before the setup phase ends.
Trauma Queen: Deploy 3 uber-charges in less than 5 minutes, and assist in 5 kills during that time.
Double Blind Trial: Deploy an uber-charge within 8 seconds of a nearby enemy medic deploying his.
Play Doctor: In a team with no medics, be first to switch to medic after a teammate calls "Medic!" and then heal 500 health.
Triage: Deploy an uber-charge on a teammate less than a second before they're hit by a critical explosive.
Preventive Medicine: Block the enemy from capturing a control point with an uber-charged teammate.
Consultation: Assist a fellow medic in killing 5 enemies in a single life.
Does It Hurt When I Do This?: Kill 50 scouts with your syringe gun.
Peer Review: Kill 50 medics with your bone saw.
Big Pharma: Assist a heavy in killing 30 enemies where neither of you die.
You'll Feel A Little Prick: Assist in killing 4 enemies with single uber-charge on a scout.
Autoclave: Assist in burning 8 enemies with a single uber-charge on a pyro.
Blast Assist: Assist in exploding 5 enemies with a single uber-charge on a soldier.
Blunt Trauma: Assist in punching out 4 enemies with a single uber-charge on a heavy.
Medical Breakthrough: Assist in destroying 8 enemy engineer buildings with a single uber-charge on a Demoman.
Midwife Crisis: Heal an engineer as he repairs his sentry while it's under enemy fire.
Ubi Concordia, IBI Victoria: Assist in killing 5 enemies on an enemy control point, in a single life.

Intern: Accumulate 7000 heal points in a single life.
Specialist: Accumulate 10000 heal points health in a single life.
Chief of Staff: Accumulate 10 million total heal points.
Hypocritical Oath: Kill an enemy spy that you have been healing.
Medical Prevention: Save a falling teammate from dying on impact.
Second Opinion: Uber-Charge 2 teammates at once.
Autopsy Report: Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you taunting above their ragdoll.
FYI I Am A Medic: Use your bonesaw to kill 5 enemy spies who have been calling for "Medic!"
Family Practice: Uber-charge ten of your steam community friends.
House Call: Join a game that one of your friends is in and then deploy and uber-charge on him.
Bedside Manner: Be healing a teammate as he achieves an achievement of his own.

Look at that fucking list, looks like we'll all have to jump on a empty server and fulfill some of these achievements.

Shouldn't be hard when you're coordinating with the opposing team on alltalk  awesome, for real

Ugh, no joke.  That list is full of suck.  There's no way anyone's going to be able to unlock half of these legitimately.

Blow three uber charges at once?  Okay, I can see blowing three in succession (assuming you ever had three medics charged at once, which you won't on a pub), but why the hell would you blow three at the same time?  Uber a heavy and have him kill four enemies in melee?  Not going to happen ever.  Uber a scout and... hah, no.  Uber a demo and blow up eight constructions before it fizzles?  The hell are you even going to find eight constructions in the course of a single uber?  And "heal a teammate as he earns an achievement of his own" sounds almost impossible to achieve without being staged.

I hate to go all L2P on everyone, but that list is not crazy, especially for those upgrades.  Do you just not play Medics?  Or do you guys follow around a Heavy/Solly and pocket-heal them until you die?

That said, Medic's my main class, so maybe it is just an L2P situation. The only ones that will be tough (legit) will be the "Uber X Class and they kill Y things."  At that point though, you'll have the Critzcrieg so it shouldn't be impossible.  Bedside Manner will just "happen" one time, I assure you, especially if you play with PuGs.

The only thing I want is to swap between modes on the Uber (at least at respawn), losing the Invuln-Uber would suck.

Bedside manner won't be too bad once the other classes get their achievements/weapons. The heavy one is crazy though, although with the critzcrieg it could be doable. I suspect the simultaneous ubercharge one gives you a window of a couple seconds. I've done that plenty of times charging the third point on dustbowl. Trauma queen is the one that hurts my head, but maybe the crtizcrieg charges up faster? It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

Oh, and apparently you can use all three at once, so yes, you can have the 'dark medic'.
