I started my charter bus career driving a stick shift because I was low man on the totem pole.  But even with that, I'm not sure I could handle a manual with a column shift.  That's just... weird.

My Lincoln and truck have column shifts. And driving a 3-on-the-tree is amazingly fun... when not in traffic. I *almost* bought one as my first car...

My boss liked to randomly fuck with me because I had long hair. I was made to test all kinds of construction equipment, too. Funny thing is, I loved figuring out how all the stuff work and it was a construction garage at a quarry, so if I broke something they'd usually just laugh (and give me shit jobs for a couple days, like applying aluminum paint to the entire garage roof when it's over 90s and sunny). But now I can operate almost anything just my quickly looking over the controls.

I don't know, he might be on to something... Getting a bunch of magical stones embedded in your face through an accident sounds like a B-lister superhero origin story.

Of course it's real. Gamification of male urination has been a thing since before the species learned to communicate.

I also recall floating targets you could throw in the toilet from various mags in the 80's.

Who wants to clean that, though?

I was going to get my dad a set of LED toilet lights as a gag gift. Then I thought they would actually be pretty awesome as a night light for the bathroom. Then I realized I'd have to clean it in the bowl. That's one bad fish taco from being a nightmare.

Yeah I get people ringing me offering me this wonderful service where I can control my electricity from my smartphone for only 10 euros more than I currently pay (plus hidden costs I'm sure). I always internally giggle at their "... oh" response when I tell them I don't have a smartphone.

Or better yet, admit you have one, but you're old enough to wander around the house, turning things off and yelling at people like your dad.
Fuck that, it doesn't even change the color of the lights.

I was seriously considering putting in Hue lights at my old apartment in Kyiv. Mostly because the lighting was awkward to control from switches - you either had a lot of light all at once or none to speak of, and the apartment was so big that it was a pain to get up and walk across to where most of the light switches were. Then I worked out how many lights I'd need at ~€40 a pop. Would have cost me more than 3 grand just to do the living room.

Christ, 75+ bulbs just in the living room? That must have been one hell of an apartment!

I was on the fence about the Hue bulbs until they started breaking whatever the control protocol standard is with firmware updates. Figured if I was going to have issues anyway, might as well let the market settle and just cheap out on Heng-Dao 'Flavor of Ephemeral Sunset for Great Justice' bulbs, or what have you.

If the room is that large and would require that many bulbs maybe look into smart light switches instead of bulbs. This way your app controls the switches so anything controlled by that switch in theory could be turned off and on and it should not matter what lamp/bulb is being used.

Probably more work futzing and installing the switches but maybe more cost effective for a room of that size.

I don't live there anymore and I was renting so I was unmotivated to fuck about with wiring. For the curious, this is what the apartment plan looked like. Distances are in metres and m2.

And this is part of the ceiling in the living room (the big rounded space). There were 77 lightbulbs in that fucker. E27, 240v bulbs too, none of this low voltage halogen stuff.

Wow that would be a PITA to swap out lightbulbs on. Smart Switches probably would have been the only practical way to do that and even then it would be a pain.
