You swap disks?!  You're begging for a RROD.

I just play Catan in 20 minute increments.

My brand new xbox has frozen 5 times in less than a week. Does this mean I'm fucked? Granted it's on for 16 hour stretches (either myself or my brother is playing it when I'm not sleeping because he's on holidays) at a time so that might have something to do with it. Fortunately I bought like 6 years of warrantry from the store I got it from.

Were you the same kids that used toads/frogs to play baseball with?

No, that's cruel.

Unless it's a cane toad and you're a New South Welshmen holidaying in Queensland. Although, golf clubs and cricket bats are much more popular methods for toad explosion.

How does the exhaust feel under load? Mine is always cool to the touch.

Schild has put the fear of the Xbox God into me now that mine is constantly saying "Disk is unreadable, please clean the disk and restart" or some such after about an hour of playing every single time.

I *think* I registered mine when I got it.  Is there any way to know for sure?  I don't even know how to access my xbox live account, I don't think.

Shit, mine does that too!  I thought it was just like what happened w/ the PS2 a while back w/ newer games.

Oh dear.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say your all fucked.

If the freezes start to happen closer and closer together, your done for. That same thing happened to Xbox #2 for me. I think Disk Read Error was #4. Numbers #1, and #5 where both red rings.

I'm still on my first 360 that I got in March 2006. I still have a little over two months of extended warranty and I kinda want to replace it since I worry everytime I see this thead, but don't want to lose my HD data... what to do what to do.

Thing is that I got it from Best Buy, and there replacing them with Elites. I treat mine decently, but I definitely don't take the care that some of you do. Biggest thing I think is that I have open component shelves, and it sits on its own shelf away from anything else.

But that replacement Elite still calls me.

I bought mine at WalMart over a year ago.

I wonder if I could just walk in and swap it out?

So, as the icing to the lovely Red Ring Cake, my laptops hard drive up and died yesterday. Complete hard drive failure. So. Much. Fun.

I think its just  bad luck at shit working week here at F13.
My 24" iMac currently insists it has no hard drive in it and my water pressure is at half power.  (Though that may be due to the mega rain storm we are under.  Could be worse, could be the temp its supposed to be in New England in the middle of January and there could be a couple feet of snow..)

Shit not working is annoying!

Yes, yes it does. 22 days from purchase to red ring. Fucking wonderful.

Its still under 30 days. Take it back to the store for a new one, dont wait for Microsoft to replace it.

What's a "freeze"? I bought my 360 in late Nov but barely got a chance to play it until the end of December when I went on break. Since then I've been playing it a bit (ie, most days for an hour or four, but not every day). Yesterday I turned it on and it read the title of the disc in the drive, but when I selected the game it black-screened and needed to be powered off and on. This happened about 4 or 5 times and it was also refusing/unable to connect to live/sign me in before it started working again. It worked ok again after that.

Am I fucked already?

From what I can tell as an outside observer, you've got right up until 10 minutes after you find a game you want to play so bad, you dream about it. Then it'll go tits up.

Haven't had a RROD but lately, every game I play gives me a :""This disc is unreadable"".  So, I filled out a form, guess I'm shipping it off :(

Next stop: Gotta get my TV repaired.  Stupid Sony TV is getting some very pronounced green shade banding on the top left and bottom right corners :(

I couldn't fucking believe it but the 360 I brought back in November (to replace launch 360 I had to send in for repairs) froze up on me.  It had a few problems with freezing during a game since I bought it, but this time it wouldn't run past the initial boot-up.

Thank God it was still in the 90 day return window so I could just take it back to Walmart for an exchange.  This was one of the new build units and Microsoft still hasn't figured out how to make them reliable yet.

As someone with a decent sized game library for the thing, I certainly hope the XBox 720 or whateverthefuck is backwards-compatable with the 360. You know, so I can still play my games in a few years when there are no more 360s (since they have a lifespan of a Mayfly).

And, there it went.  Flicker of the screen, then it powered down.  RROD on 'restart'.

Will MS be sending me a HDMI version back?

They will still break.  I think the only reason mine still works is I don't use it much, and mostly play XBLA purchased games when I do.

I've barely played mine since going back to work. Gave it a run for the first time in a month over the weekend and played some Burnout Revenge and Dead Rising.

I got one more month before my extended warranty with Best Buy is up. I'm still torn, do I hope it craters and I get a new one with the possibility of losing all my data, or do I just keep my fingers crossed that it survives well past it's 2 year purchase date.

Just curious, are any of the redring stories here on Elites, or all just standard boxes? Since I use my Elite for streaming, I use the shit out of it and haven't had the slightest issue with it.

Hopefully knocking on a piece of compressed wood by-product keeps me safe. I am at work and no real wood is to be found.

Every time I read these things, I put off buying one.  There are even lots of games I'd like to play on it.  If it buggers up though... I'm just not good with frustration.

Signe, from all reports I have heard, the newer models dont RROD. It had to do with the heatsink and mobo warping with heat. But the newer ones are designed differently inside.

You are missing out on a lot of good gaming. I am on my 5th 360 (My current one being the only newer version) and I am still glad I bought it.
