Looking after a Hamster for a friend, which died last night.  The Hamster.  Not the friend.  Clearly.

Wife is distraught and Elena will probably be inconsolable.

Ach.

If anyone ever tried telling me that global warming was a myth (like my husband's one cousin), I think I'll beat them to death.

Got woken up by the husband this morning at 2am because the tornado sirens were going off and according to the police scanner, a funnel cloud had been sighted over the town just to the west of us, which puts it at about 10ish miles away, moving NE.  Driving rain, lightning, thunder, all while the scanner is going crazy.  We weren't sure if we should move downstairs to the half-bath or not.  Luckily, things were fine, the warning expired about a half hour later, the power predictably went out for a bit, and I had a terrible time getting back to sleep.  Ugh.  Tornadoes freak me out.  I'm kind of cool with just about any other kind of bad weather, but tornadoes this far north just are not right.  It's becoming more and more common to hear about them as far north as southern Wisconsin now.

Sorry man.

Secretly buy a new one and spray paint it to look like the old one, hopefully kicking off some sort of slapstick movie routine?

Your friend thanks you.

They have them in Canada every summer, so tornadoes that far north aren't unheard of. A couple of very large ones have happened in Canada even.

Sorry if that doesn't help you sleep  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly? And you are right..as the world warms they will likely get more common and more severe. Yay.

Look on the bright side.

Chances are we'll get a year SO BAD it will wipe Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Northern Mississippi off the map.

So I've been acting as sort of a liaison for a small new company that we bought out last year, helping them integrate into the organization. Got an email this morning from them thanking me for all my efforts, and letting me know they'd sent their praises about me to my boss - awesome. They also enclosed a Steam Gift certificate. It arrived in my email today at 10:03.

 awesome, for real

Besides, I don't know the tornadoes are coming my way, I don't even live close to a trailer park.  That's why all those other states that Merusk deserve to be wiped out by the Tornado God.

Are we listing crap?

1. Shower heads and probably the entire master bath water pressure mysteriously dropped.  I know how pipes work and I can't figure this out.  New water heater?
2. Wife's home PC starts bluescreening (the one I spent time+money on), page fault to BAD PLACE.  It works when I use it.  Thought maybe update the SSD firmware, system unable to format a DVD for backup.  Don't have time for this.
2a. Wife's work PC optical drive no workee.  Since it's a HP computer, it's my fault and I have to invoke the warranty.  I'll just do that during my copious free time.
3. Dog seems hurt, no visible injury.  Vet?  I don't have time for this.
4. Afraid to power on the computer I'm building because if it doesn't power on I'm going to break something.  CPU didn't drop right into the socket and I'm a TAD NERVOUS.  Also don't have time for that.
5. Made a list of things I need to do and have become a bit depressed.  Being organized is a real downer.
6. Need to make a doctor appt, not sure when I can fit that in.
7. The dentist can just chill the fuck out until I'm ready to have my cleaning.
8. Something in the chimney smells dead.  /ignore
9. Put new wipers on my car and one is too long.  Do I have time to do the returns thing?

These don't look so bad when I write them out, but I sure do feel intensely frustrated about all this.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I had my third "final" inspection of my remodel project (which is at something like two years and counting, having been estimated at three months originally) and this one, like the two previous inspections, failed because of something my contractor failed to do (the first time it was OPENING A DOOR, the second time it was making a permit correction he said he would make and didn't, this third time it was getting an earlier inspection signed off).  And then since the inspector was there anyway and cranky that her time had been wasted again, she told me I need a steel post in front of my washer to make sure I don't drive into it.

When I told my contractor he'd failed yet again and that I'd take care of scheduling the other inspector on my own time but I'd appreciate if he could do the steel post thing since he'd already agreed to take care of anything else needed to get this thing through final inspection, his attitude was basically "I don't understand, are you saying I should have LOOKED AT the paperwork before scheduling the inspection?  What am I, a wizard?"  So fuck him, I'm gonna dock another star off the yelp review I'm planning, deal with the inspection bullshit myself so I'm not getting information relayed to me by an incompetent middleman, and hire a handyman to put in the steel post rather than wait for two months for the GC to do it after the requisite dozen nagging phone calls.  The Yelp review is going to be at 1 star now; I'm not going to give the GC any new tasks to fuck up, if only because I wouldn't have any more stars to dock him.

If you are surprised by any weather event occurring in Austin then you have managed to completely misunderstand Austin weather.  I would have thought the softball sized hail that heralded your arrival in this fine city to have learned you up.

Having lived through the tornado in College Park, you should probably not be so surprised.  We had one in Pittsburgh when I was in high school, too, speaking of hilly cities with rivers.

I lived through the tornado hitting Georgia State in downtown Atlanta in 2008. Sounded like a train was blowing over the top of the city, during the SEC Basketball tournament.
