And then its Wegener's. Till the last 15 minutes when its appendicitis again.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I had my appendix out, never got any morphine though, what a rip off.  Didn't realize how important abdominal muscles are to basic movement until the surgery cut a bunch up.

I hear they get all fancy and go in through the belly button now a days though, so it shouldn't be an issue.  Might have to lose a belly button piercing if you have one I guess.

Well I lived through the procedure. There was some separation between the appendix and the colon so I am going to be living in the hospital for a few days.

Out of curiosity, how much morphine are they giving you per time and per day?  I am on it right now as well, and sort of feel like I am never quite getting enough of it.  I also feel more or less perfectly fine from a mental standpoint, which goes against everything I have ever heard about morphine.

For context, I totally blew out my back and have been laying down flat for basically 8 days now.

I am hooked up to a pump that doles out 2mg a shot with a 10 minute lockout and a max of 20mg every 4 hours.

I get a bit "detached" mentally when the shot first kicks in but then it mostly just makes me kinda drowsy.

So apparently my appendix had "perforated" and had detached itself from the intestine before they got in to cut it out. So they had a lot of stuff to hoover up out of my abdomen and I get to spend the next probably 4 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics.

OWWIE to both of you. Hope you feel better soon.

About 10 years ago I tweaked my back sitting at my computer in a weird position for too long, and ignoring the building pain I was starting to experience (I was in a poker tournament). It was spasming and ouchy when I went to bed. Woke up and it was worse, and could barely climb in and out of my car to get to work. Staggered into my office, and writhed around in my chair trying to get comfortable. As a last resort I laid down under my desk to try to stretch things out. And then could NOT get up, or even roll over. Eventually got carried out on a backboard by the fire department and went to the ER. Got a couple of shots that did almost nothing to relieve the pain, and was discharged with a prescription for Vicodin and some muscle relaxers.

Spent a week in bed at home, using a chair for a walker to get to and from the bathroom. My doc sent me to a chiropractor (who amazingly was a hot 20-something). When she was done, I couldn't get off the table directly- had to roll off onto the floor, and then work my way up the wall until I could stand. All in all it was 2 or 3 weeks before I was pain free.

Now if my back even twinges I dive into a horizontal position and take care of it immediately. My commute is an hour now instead of about 5 minutes, so I won't even consider getting in a car until it calms down. I remember hearing Gary Payton missing games with back spasms. I never understood how that was possible. Until it happened to me. That shit is no joke.

Yah, back spasms aren't fun.  I had some about a year ago while driving and had to pull over and let my wife drive the rest of the way.  Spent half the day on the couch after taking some of my mother-in-law's muscle relaxers.   I get them a lot due to having a really awful back (childhood spinal disease.. yay).

When I was 20, I had a few vertebrae fused (as well as some other shit done) and was in the hospital and on morphine for about 10 days.  I was too uncomfortable to take anything away from the morphine other than apparently I needed a lot of it constantly.  The shit they tried to substitute for it didn't do the job quite as well.  So, it was morphine all the way.  awesome, for real

Hope you all feel better.  It seems like a rash of people lately with appendicitis.  I've known 2 people in the past month that needed theirs out.

I am just reading this study: Why Phishing Works and it's a bit depressive:

Quote
90.9% (20 participants) incorrectly judged this to be the legitimate 'Bank of the West'  website. 17  participants mentioned the content of the page as one reason for their decision.
For many participants the “cute” design, the level of detail and the fact that the site does not ask for a great deal of information were the most convincing factors.
Two participants mentioned the animated bear video that appears on the page, (e.g., “because that would take a lot of effort to copy”).

Participants in general found this animation appealing and many reloaded the page just to see the animation again.

I am glad I don't work in IT. These guys must be heroes/alcoholics.  why so serious?

Saw the Tom Cruise of the bird world last night.  Bald Eagle went fishing, and then buzzed my parents porch before heading out.  Luckily I wasn't trying to drink my coffee.  It's amazing that you then notice all the other wildlife shut the hell up when they realized an eagle was cruising for dinner.

My genesis is one of my most prized possessions. I don't care much for the new front to back burner design ( mine is the old left to right knobs on the side table design) but they are still the best damn grills around.

I found that out when I had my abscess.  They only had to barely nick the muscles of the abdominal wall and it still made it impossible for me to do basic things.

I find morphine just makes me drowsy.  The pain from whatever I've been in the hospital for was far more debilitating than the morphine itself.  Oddly I find hydrocodone/vicodine has better pain killing properties than morphine.  Then there's tramadol which does nothing for pain but makes me not care, followed by multiple days of withdrawl.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!
