If the money is tied up in equity in the house instead of cash it means hiring a lawyer isn't (60k - lawyerFee = mostOfMyMoneyBack) it just means the same 60k is now more liquid so the bank is probably hoping that losing that lawyerFee will make it not worth suing them.  Sounds like the type of thing a threatening lawyer written letter might solve though, which isn't too expensive.

What bothers me most is the bank had hinted that these changes 'might' be coming, but to then send a letter saying 'we did it, you can't get your cash now' is just fucking stinking.

I had an amazing local bank that got bought out by a really shitty interstate bank. They're holding my mortgage, but I pulled everything else and put it in a small regional. My fiancee doesn't want to 'hassle' with it, and keeps complaining about how shitty the interstate is. Well, yeah. By not hassling with paperwork once, she's had a few years of problems with the bank. Women.

I was pretty close to refi on my house with a credit union, but they just couldn't package it the way I wanted. Probably should've bit the bullet with that one anyway just to get the debt moved away from the shitty bank.

Not only was the original local bank operationally and financially stellar; they were huge benefactors of the community. The library alone got five figures a year from them. Now, nothing.

The other night I was watching the new Dracula series and because of Steerpike, I had the urge to watch Gormenghast again.  I used to have the DvD but I think Gordon took it with him and it was a Brit copy anyway.  I checked online to see if I could get a new one and the prices ranged from between $10 and $158.  I think that's weird.

Standard poodles are nothing at all like the tiny mutants bred from them. They're real dogs, very intelligent and good with kids. We had one when I was a kid because they have the wooly type fur that doesn't aggravate dog hair allergies.

You're right Yegolev. Dog breeders should be outlawed and the different breeds created over the last thousand years or so should all be bred back to mutts. Because mutts are just so adorable.

To clarify: The poodle wasn't a Toy, but I don't believe it was a standard either.  Like some mix of the two.  I was 4 when it was put down so I have no idea beyond "that dog was crazy" statements.  It can't be good when they won't even tell you stories.

That's a bit harsh. I've raised a half dozen mutts in my time and I love them, but I'd also like to get a purebred Akita trained as a guard dog to accompany my fiancee when she walks alone. Because Akita are awesome, too.

It's not.  Some consolation may be that dog breeders are even bigger dickbags.  Don't feed the system.

We had two rescues and one just died.  My issue is allergies and poodles don't affect me as much, hence the crossbreed with labs or goldens.  Don't know if I want to go back to two regular haired dogs.

Akitas are very awesome.  One of the bosses I had a million years ago raised them and always had two living with him.  It would be a male and a female because, for some reason, they're very aggressive with other dogs of the same sex.  He said they were also hard to raise because they  become  so possessive of the person they choose to be theirs.  I've seen Akitas that need rescue because of the aggressive behaviour with other dogs so you might even be able to find one that way.  I've known very few dogs that can't be helped with that sort of problem if you're willing to really pay attention to training.  I have a friend who trains dogs and deals with aggression problems and he's rarely failed to help.   The black and gray ones are especially gorgeous.  I fell in love with the one my boss had.  He had this one little fault though... just like the shepherd we had when I was little... he would make little tiny bites with just his front teeth which were actually love bits but fuck they hurt!  

I have to agree about getting rid of breeders, kennel clubs and puppy mills.  I remember when my mom heard about a breeder that had a litter of shepherd pups and there were two born white.  My mom tried to get in touch with the man but was too late and he'd already euthanised them.  :(  Unfortunately, this is not all that uncommon or at least wasn't back then.  Most breeders should go where puppy mill owners go... wood chipper.

As with most things, there are good breeders and bad breeders. Do your research, ask to see where the dogs are kept, meet the mom (or both parents if possible), etc. It should become evident pretty quickly what sort you're dealing with.

Yep not all breeders are bad. Many do it as a hobby too here in Georgia and make sure all the pups are taken care of.

That's why I said "most".   I'm jaded.  (but in a nice way!)  My mom's shepherd (who was like my brother!) had a very sloped back.  High at the shoulder and low at the hips.  And he was huge.  This is why shepherds had such a high incidence of hip displasia.  As he aged, his back became more and more painful.  This is what breeders do.  They make the dog fotm  sometimes with no regard for the dog at all.  They're like mad fucking scientists messing with things that really shouldn't be messed with.  People do things like breeding skittish fainting goats with other skittish fainting goats to get the best fainting goat!  Leave them goats alone!  People want dogs with sloping backs, high curved backs, more wrinkles, shorter legs, etc.  Should they have them?  Personally, I don't think they should.
