Need to rip about 500CDs before selling them.

Someone give me the skinny on modern MP3 generation.
Use Exact Audio Copy.

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

It's what the autists at what.cd use. If you want completely lossless encoding that doesn't take up absolutely obscene space that you can then transcode to more useful formats use FLAC.

So I am working on activating a new windows terminal server for one of our control systems on campus this morning and my boss sends me the receipt/license info for the CALs and I see a total price of $8.10 which leads me to scratch my head a bit, then I look closer at it....

We only pay 30cents per enterprise CAL under our volume agreement   ACK!

Oh, you said Campus.  Maybe, sure.  The Charities get Office 365 for free and Academics get Volumes for massive discounts.

We're renegotiating our deal with Adobe right now since they've stopped with concurrent licensing (meaning no permanent licenses of anything Adobe anymore because of their stupid fuck cloud shit).

It is turning out fairly favorable.

I won't bore you with the details of what our faculty/staff/students get as far as campus machines go, but as staff if the agreement goes through I'll be able to get a subscription for Adobe Master Suite for $10 a year.

I get MS Office for $9.95 but I think I might pass on 2013.  Since 2010 is peachy.

Realize my tabs are due, but need to get emmissions tested. Car fails due to having a code for the gas tank.vent getting stuck. That's gonna be a nice bill. Since I cant repair it myself now.

I thought you could still buy seats for individual products, just not the suites. Just looked and, nope, that's just for certain software, not the biggies for pirates like Photoshop.  Makes sense.

The DTM before me at the firm had to deal with this negotiation but I understand it worked out pretty well in the end.  Since it's a university I imagine you're dealing with several thousand seats to our 150ish, because there's no way I can get that $10 a year deal.

Faculty & Staff will have a home use license for all Adobe products for free when our new site license kicks in (which goes for 3 years).

I always thought the simplicity of pirating Photoshop was intentional to make sure nothing else got traction in the non-business market and became a competitor.

I'm so sick of hearing about the library/academic pricing. Local government doesn't get them, despite it being the same pot of tax money, but everyone thinks we do and nitpicks my budget.

And at least at my institution of higher learning, the educational licensing for Adobe was still astronomically nasty.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

In general, libraries don't get the academic pricing. A few places like techsoup include us (but that's also a non-profit thing, not an academic thing). Most vendors put us in small business, not education. Which sucks for the most part.

Well, the bank just fucked me really badly.

All banks do that every day to all of their customers. In your case, they probably made an error and did it more egregiously than normal.

FUCK BANKS USE CREDIT UNIONS.

Don't know if they even have those in the UK, but for the American folks, please stop using banks TODAY.

Every time I use a local bank they get bought-out by a larger bank and I have to start all-over again.  Hell, I thought I'd found a good national one in ING then Capital One bought them out.

So now I bank with USAA. While I'd like to deal with a CU I couldn't find one in Kentucky that would take me since they all required me to be a farmer or employed at some local job.

I also bank with USAA.  I just got a letter from them saying that no new accounts will be created for non-military people in the future, although current customers are grandfathered in.

Woah woah woah. That deserves some background info.

Also my car battery died today, but I got a free one because it was 3 days from the warranty running out. That's unrelated but it was nice.

Yeah, while we paid a lot less than what a retail box cost, we still were stuck in a very expensive model compared to other products before the change. And the only other option that did not entail the campuses sharing an extra half-million a year for the site license was the price going up to the retail "Adobe Online $30 a month per computer if you install anything" model. A la carte under that plan: $20 a month per application.

By having a current account mortgage that you can pay into at any time, safe that at any time you can withdraw because that's the agreement.

Then the letter saying that they've changed it and taken it up to the position that it was at close of play.

I was well ahead of the mortgage in real money terms for this property (almost paid) and now what was Cash is now tied up in House.

I am not fucking happy.

You are correct, a lawyer is needed, and maybe a valuation done on the property.
