Facebook post by the least sane, most damaged person I know, announcing they've been accepted to study psychology at the most prestigious school in the land. I guess after a while, if you don't die, you become an expert?

Just to be sure - this is not someone improving their own mental health through treatment and is working towards becoming an expert, but rather this is just some crazy person with no self awareness of how fucked up they are going into a field they don't belong in and being supported to do so by others (hopefully because the supports like a good train wreck)?

Saw Rush tonight. Those guys are older than dirt but still bring it. Peart is amazing.

I am not even a huge Rush fan (I really need to explore their catalog a bit more) and that would be awesome. I can recognize true talent when I see it.

I've seen Rush live more than any other band.  I really enjoy their shows.  They have several concert dvd's that are worth owning as well.

Psychology students in college were always the most fucked up, damaged individuals.

EDIT: Also, Rush live is goddamn awesome, whether recorded or actually being there at the show. They truly are one of the world's greatest live bands.

Yeah, I've got one of their shows on DVD that is amazing.  I've never gotten to actually see them, but it's on the bucket list.  I suppose it better be a fast bucket list, because Geddy Lee still doesn't look great.

The Grace Under Pressure tour was the first concert I ever went to Rock on! and I was so happy later on when I tracked in down a CD copy of Moving Pictures in Singapore, of all places (for some reason it was impossible to find in the record stores around me at the time).

Rush live sounds a little too much like the album recordings (modulo Geddy's declining vocals) for my tastes, but it is amazing the energy and sound coming out of just three people (plus all the sounds from Geddy's bag of tricks).

I finally got to see them on the Time Machine tour, so filled with awesome. My fiancee really enjoyed the show as well, but she did get a little weirded out when we all lost it during Temples of Syrnix. The crowd during that song is like a Maiden crowd during most of the show...finally got to see Maiden, too! Highly recommend both bands live. A bit less mainstream, but Anthrax with Joey B is really taking names. Saw them last year and the spirit moved me to hit the mosh pit hard.

I've got to get around to learning more Rush songs on guitar and/or bass. Our first real drummer was also in a Rush cover band (with our second bassist, the guy who's shoes I had to fill as a newbie bassist). He still plays, but refuses to play anything but Rush. I know like, Tom Sawyer, Distant Early Warning, and a couple I can never remember until I start playing them. On guitar I think I only know Fly by Night.

I used to really dig Anthrax.  I listened to some the other day and decided that I'm just too old.  Iron Maiden still rules though.

Anthrax still owns. Their new album is so goddamn good, even if you like the John Bush days.

That's very much a song of the time. Listening to rap from that time period is strange when compared to some of the stuff that has come out lately thanks to production values. Though I'll take most of the hip-hop from then over the shit that's out now.

However, if you like Anthrax's non-rap stuff, Worship Music really is the tits.

Rapper's Delight is the best.

I'll check out Worship Music.  I'm not as much into the hard metal anymore though.  I still like it, I just don't find myself listening to it much.

If you don't mind my asking, what was the typical presentation like?  Our little guy has a cough and green stuff coming out of her nose, but doesn't have any of the typical neurological symptoms at this point.

A bit of both really. She sought treatment and is extraordinarily intelligent and aware of her crazy. Moved interstate a year ago and the congratulations are from people who haven't seen her since. I caught up with her and a friend two months ago and she wasn't okay.

It was always sad that this elite human being was so disturbed (talking at inappropriate moments about past trauma, violent rage outbursts, suicide attempts, attention-seeking and psychopathic manipulations). She wreaked havoc everywhere and could never stick with anything. She's fully equipped to own this, convince everyone she's Freud, and destroy them. Good luck world.

Seen Rush live in concert 5 times, starting with Hemispheres tour (wasn't even old enough to drive then) up to 83/84 (basically, almost every year they showed up in Pittsburgh). Only have vague memories (the Hemispheres show was memorable, however), and the last one was marred by an acid trip and then, the next day, a ride back to college falling through, hence, we had to hitchhike (and my roommate was so steamed at me).

So I'm seeing a new girl.  Funny enough, she lives in Austin.  Going to see Cold War Kids at Stubbs or something on 08/22, hooray.

I thought I had to post that here just because, well, you know, Austin.

Oh yeah, I still live in Tampa.   swamp poop

Decent venue if you don't have to stand out in the heat. Also, your new girl lives in a better place than you do. Did you meet her at summer camp?

She was down for a week in Sarasota.  There's a somewhat hilarious story that involves the police, people falling face-first into sand, skinny dipping, and a $200 bar tab.  It pretty much was a surreal weekend where she ended up changing her flight from Monday to Wednesday.  It'd be a really good story for cocktail parties if it ends up working out.

If anyone wants to meet up in Austin, I should be available to hang out on 08/25 for Sunday funday.  She's gotta work.

I just love having to go in to try and figure out why a good portion of our stuff isn't working at 430 am on a Saturday only to learn that one of our two "routers" that serve as redundant links in our datacenter went tits up around 1am and the networking group on campus powered it off until they can replace it.

And of course, they did not call anyone, they just sent my boss an email letting him know it was off and he is out of town. Oh, and the page that has their contact number for after hours stuff was down when I tried to access it.
