Hairy legs are kind of nice.  I like tummy hair, too.  Just hair, not fur.

ATTENTION SOMEBODY!!!  I don't remember who it was or what thread it was in but someone was wishing for a copy of Poser, which is really expensive.  I just wanted to let whoever it was that I bought a copy of Poser 8, an older version, for $23 on Amazon.  I suggest that if you're one of those people who really like fiddling with this sort of stuff but don't want to spend a fortune, take advantage of this.  It's well worth it and decent animation software can be a ton of fun.

Ugly shoes with ugly socks - not sure who thought it'd look good on a wine bottle, but that person should be canned.

My best guess is that I bought these in 1984ish.   I haven't seen these since probably 1987ish

and then I found these:

I am still playing a lot of Wargame: AirLand Battle. Not being military I lack lot of the theoretical background of course, so I got me this antquirac 1968 copy of "Führung und Gefecht - Grundriß der Taktik (roughly: Tactis & Engaments  - A basic outline), which - in what is a nice touch I think - even includes some maps for the examples given. Long read ahead.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Nope, I'm not much of a nostaligatard. There are a handful of really great minis I would like from the old days. None from that series, those TSR minis were like bad grenadier. They're circa 1983 (source)

And I have the 1st ed books from when I was a kid (we played AD&D in the band, so I managed to keep them - almost everything else got tossed in the garbage when I got booted out of the house at 18). Though my monster manual is jacked up because my cousings cut out many of the pictures I had colored in.

Not sure where to put this post, so Useless Conversation it is.  Started watching the Clone Wars cartoon...despite being possibly the biggest actual SW nerd around here (I hide it better than some), I never really watched any of them.

And, well, they aren't shite.  I was sure they would be.  I think it might be partly because there is some actual wars happening in the stars.  The action, despite the deliberately blocky animation, is actually pretty epic in spots.  Also, I actually like this version of Anakin.  It has some pretty terrible shit too, it must be said.  The only thing that's a worse idea than including episode centering around the heroics of Jar Jar is to actually replace the voice actor who does Jar Jar.  Hopefully it was just for that one episode, cuz holy fuck.  I can do a way better Jar Jar impression myself, which makes me extremely popular at parties.

My first regular AD&D group are all dead. That kind of freaks me out, as I'm not /that/ old!

The Clone Wars cartoon is pretty good stuff. I liked the movie and bought the first two seasons on DVD. Watched the first one, but when I saw what I could sell it on for, I sold the second one unopened. I have the character encyclopedia for painting reference, there're some good color schemes in there.

They get better is the surprising part.  If you can ignore some of the dumber things like Darth Maul returning they're a really good watch.  I'm disappointed with the last season in the way they twisted some of the characters to tell Ashoka's story but it was good enough for EU.

Many were disappointed when it was cancelled because, "there's no resolution!"  I disagree as there's a very definite one, it's just not the resolution THEY wanted.

ed: I thought we had a TV thread but I guess not. I know we discussed Asoka and Darth Maul at some point, but since all discussions devolve in to Star Wars, MMOs and Honeycrisps it must have been another thread.

Re: 1st and 2nd printing Deities & Demigods, there was no actual lawsuit, the story is a little more complicated. They had permission from Michael Moorcock to use his stuff, but he'd already separately licensed it to Chaosium which created a weird mess. Something similar happened with the Cthulhu stuff, except in that case they thought it was public domain. Compromise was made, which was that they had to put a credit to Chaosium in the book, which is in the 2nd printing (that's the one I have - if yours is missing the credit that means it is a first printing, I'm not sure if they differ in value.) After that printing I think they decided there was too much of a legal minefield and just dropped those 2 sections.

I got off this stop about 20min before it happened.  Pretty messed up, because I almost waited till the next bus came this morning, which would have likely put me at the scene when it happened.  Strange how things work like that.
