How the fuck does Amazon make money? I ordered 2 cases of cat food, one can was missing. Sent customer service an email, 15 minutes later they apologized and credited my cc for both cases. So I got 47 free cans of cat food. Doesn't seem like a terrible profitable way to do business.

Considering the volume that they do, I think they'll be ok.   why so serious?

I stopped ordering at Amazon because of the way they treat employees. But experience with customer service was always great. Very professional and when I had returns (not for books, but when ordering PC components) they never fussed around but just accepted it. As a customer I really couldn't complain.

The other day my sister ordered a special sort of dog harness from Mr. Chewy.  I love Mr. Chewy.  They're the best.  The harness was too big and she called them to let them know she was returning it.  They immediately refunded her $30-some dollars (plus shipping) and asked her to donate the harness to a dog rescue, which seems to be their policy for many items.  I thought that was awesome.

Calapine, if you are referencing the way that Amazon was reported to treat its warehouse employees, although being a warehouse employee sucks, it actually sucked a lot less at Amazon than most warehouses. This is coming from people that I knew that worked in warehouses before and although Amazon was a grueling experience, by and large is was fairer than most large volume warehouses.

And yes, I used to work Amazon customer service, and we were always told that the bottom line is that unless the account is flagged as a serial abuser, the goal is always to get you to come back, even at the cost of losing money on the sale, because one person going around telling friends and family that they had a great experience is worth thousands in ad revenue alone. This was the model from 'day 1', which if you ask Bezos, still hasn't happened yet. Amazon - perpetually stuck in open Beta.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I am sorry for the showing off. I only held menial jobs (call center, waitress) so not used to be recognised. Now actual experts who don't know me find my content interesting enough to follow me. Thats a big self confidence boost! (Ill cut it out soon, promised)

OkCupid is great.

Your experience is strange and not indicative of anything.

Everyone lies on the internet. Everyone.

OKCupid is great. I met my now fiance on it. And yes, you have to wade through piles of lies to get to the real people, that's why I always set up quick coffee dates as the first meeting.

I went a different route and took people to exceptional dinners to gauge their functionality as human since everyone on the internet is an idiot.

In other news, Texas Corporations get access to some sort of internship finding service.

I'm real tempted to find myself an intern.

After 2 (3?) years in good standing they get a chance for lump some severance with job placement, forget what it's called.

I love the concept.  Most call centers churn 40% by 2 years, it's a mentally shit job.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

In a great send-up of stupid restaurateur/ foodie culture, I give you "We Want Plates."  Where food professionals fail to understand they're making food, not artwork, and 'creative presentation' doesn't make up for mediocrity.

Speaking of eating...

You never really realize just how important your sense of smell is to how food tastes until you have a FUCKING SUMMER COLD!!!!

Nothing like having to pause chewing every few seconds just to breathe and not suffocate or something.  And it's a good thing I know what my lunch tastes like because right now, it's nothing.

Getting fiber today from CenturyLink (was Qwest), guess I'll see if the speeds are worth the customer service issues .. but really, can't be worse than Comcast can it?

So we got Centurylink's business grade fiber.

Installer was fine (us-west guy) engineer was fine (qwest guy) billing was a total cluster fuck. (centurylink rep) Our corporate customer service rep that helped me was great (ex-coworker of mine and qwest rep).

So good luck!

The product itself is fine we have had a few outages with the Voice stuff due to Centurylink fat fingering some configuration on one of their switches. But the network connection never dropped. Other when a farmer decided to snap the fiber when he was plowing a field. Oh and their self service billing portal is a complete wreak.

So far I'm happy with the connection (900mbps+ up and down), right now I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of this crappy wifi router of theirs and using my Archer C7 instead. I'm running DD-WRT on the C7 which is slowing my speeds down to 200mbps (something about software NATing). So, couple more things to try or will just live with it!

Sounds like billing in general is a cluster, we'll see how that goes. They did OK with our residential phone service when we had it awhile back.

Decent speeds, out of curiosity where are you at and what are they charging you? I am in Eastern Washington and we are about 250 a month for a couple hundred meg. They don't offer home users fiber yet although one of the local ISP's are offering a Gig for 119 a month if you are in their service area which is roughly half of the town with plans for the rest.

Metro Denver, being charged about $80/mo for the 1gb plan (apparently there are 400mb and 600mb plans too, but I never saw those when I signed up). I was surprised to find it as reasonable as it is, as I pay $80/mo to Comcast which is suppose to be 150mb but usually see 100mb down and 10mb up.

I used to make fun of the other half for watching it. I think ultimately the first season was pretty decent and now everyone has convinced themselves that it's awesome and edgy when by the second season it was just awful and it's never gotten any better. Thankfully the other half finally gave up after the lame 4th season...

I watched the first season, and it was painful how long it took them to figure out that the house was haunted despite how obvious it was. Nothing about the show really stood out, though, so I didn't bother watching any of the later ones.

First season? Fuck that, I stopped 30 minutes into the first episode. I was kind of gobsmacked that with that quality of actors, the writing was so bad that I actively disliked every character I'd already seen and wanted the house to get them. It felt very try hard.

So...a Georgian boy is getting married to a Russian girl. His dad teaches him how to behave on their first night: "First, throw her on the bed to know that Georgia is power".

"Then take off your clothes for her to know that georgia is beautiful".

And then grandpa adds: "Then sit down and masturbate, for her to know that Georgia is independent".
