A "Science, fuck yeah!" moment - The Skin Gun. Maybe for Sky? The meat is @ 2:50. Edit: and, bubble bursting from reddit: So, to clarify for you: this, as presented, is fake. It is a massive simplification of highly speculative research that is phenomenally expensive and requires a lot more than just "spray-on" cells.
What really happens is that a patient has stem cells harvested, placed in a "wearable bioreactor" (search Google Scholar for Jorg Gerlach's work, I'm not going to get into what a PITA those things are) and later sprayed onto a very specialized dressing.

This dressing carries a soup of human plasma, electrolytes, amino acids and other friendly stuff for the stems cells to grow on. The "spray" that's shown actually needs to be done many times; it's supposed to spray on a one-cell-thick layer that's repeated until desired cutaneous thickness is reached.

This is after the wound is debrided. This will not grow hair back. This will not magically return scarred flesh to original appearance. It is just another way of doing a skin graft that might help reduce graft rejection, but it is a complex process that needs to be done in a very clean and controlled environment.

What was shown was sci-fi that was very loosely based on Dr. Gerlach's work. The reality is that you'd only use this on severely burned patients where traditional grafting methods were not feasible, such as when a patient has so little skin left that we cannot just allograft (from one area on your body to another) as is normally done.

This is for the "razor's edge" patients that would die without somewhere to get new skin from. Not for magically healing where you burned your hand on the stove when drunk

I'm not sure I would take that over the National geographic. They were rather clear on how it works, if what he is saying is true, then thats a huge misrepresentation on the part of NG. I find that unlikely. |

Saying it's a huge misrepresentation would be a massive understatement.  The reddit poster implies the process would take significant time while the NG vid says everything took an hour and a half and was healed in 4 days.  To top it off, if there's only been a dozen patients treated with the gun the reddit poster would have to have been on Dr. Gerlach's staff to know the details of this exact process.
More likely he's familiar with published work based on previous experiments leading up to this one.   With only a dozen subjects I'm going to guess that this hasn't been published yet, but Nebu would be the one to know the details on that.

It's amusing reading the comments on those YouTube cockpit videos of video game jockeys critiquing the 747's pilots landings. |
