Eh, it's a court room artist so they'd be drawing it as it's shown in court. That and I don't think there's much call for courtroom artists in the US so they're not really the best either and probably don't work that often. I'd say it comes down to the guy being rushed in the court room and whoever paid him just grabbing the sketches as soon as he got out of the court rather than waiting for him to improve them in order to get them on air as quickly as possible.
But yeah, they're pretty bad drawings.
