Kinda reminds me of when we used to use runner sleds in the winter, up in the adirondack foothills. Get fucking bombed at the bars and hit the hills at 2am (dragging along anyone we could talk into the venture), hope there's no traffic. Much steeper hills, though. The chase car once clocked us at almost 60mph before he backed off in case we crashed. Secret is to get super icy roads. It's fucking sick, even though you can kinda steer a runner sled, you'd have to throw your entire body off the side to make many of the corners, and at the bottom of my favorite run there was a T intersection with a fairly busy road. Hard to make the turn, and you always hope there's no traffic. I loved that run, though, there was one section that was almost vertical, like dropping into a pipe, instant speed.
Also, it was funny when my junky rabbit would make it up the hill but a housemate's pride saab couldn't, damned blowhard military pilot. :)
Only serious injury we ever had was when it was particularly icy, the banks had crusted over and a prior wipe into the banks left some ice chunks on the road. A friend took one in the face and needed some stitches.
