He could actually go back to college for a marketable degree...

Nah, he has an art degree.  He's been spoiled for anything else except, maybe, communications or something equally useless.  He has such a nice feeling for space and colour, too... he should do what I told him to do before... artsy stuff.  But he won't because it's such a good idea.  Anyway, his job attention span is even shorter than his MMORPG attention span.  He should jump off the job wagon now and save himself getting all stressy over it.

I don't like talking about him as if he isn't here.  We should start a private forum somewhere and discuss other aspects of his private life.  It'll be fun.

Suprisingly you don't have to deal with a lot of dickheads since the people on the golf course are usually happy to be there and out of the office.

Wait until I figure out which course you work at.

Reading this thread reminded me that I made $15 per hour as a nude model for the art school.  Easiest money I ever made.  I assume, however, that someone posessing an art degree has already thought of that.

I do not have an art degree.  Or any degree.

I'd suggest going back to school for a philosophy degree. That'll open doors.

Metaphysical doors.

Anyways.

I'd actually considered the nude modeling thing, myself.  I'm at a point where I'm reasonably satisfied with my own body, and I do like easy money.  However, I fear there may be a hot chick in the class, and that my body would do what it does when there's a hot chick and nudity.

So I decided against it.

The great philosphers didn't have degrees.  You'll see, after my religion takes off.

Saw this anecdotal article today and figured it might be of interest to anyone looking.

Quote
The US economy isn't just producing jobs these days, it's also producing good jobs. Alongside the ads for jobs handling a cash register or a spatula are these new opportunities:

• In St. Louis, AFB International is enlisting both technicians, paid $30,000 to $40,000, and PhD scientists, offered $80,000 to $100,000, in its quest for the perfect pet food.

• In Delaware, Honeywell plans to hire people at $40,000 to $100,000 to work in a data-storage center.

• In southern California, some of the latest openings involve working on the railroad, for $35,000 to $70,000 a year. Union Pacific plans to add 2,000 employees altogether.

I can attest that Delaware is a decent place to live. I grew up there.

I have never played WoW.

Nah, he has an art degree.  He's been spoiled for anything else except, maybe, communications or something equally useless.

Art as in Fine Art, or "Arts"? A completed degree?

With fine art you could go nutso with getting together a portfolio and try to break into something like commercial art, or advertising.
With "arts" you're qualified to wait tables and the like.

If you decide to do teaching, there should be something like a postgrad teaching cert that you can do. Those are usually 1-2 years fulltime though. Here anyway.

If you do a masters, try to do it in something worthwhile. There's a lot of masters and PHD programs that essentially qualify you for nothing at all besides perhaps swallowing your own tail and teaching those things. Having said that, the life of a career Academic/Lecturer seems to be pretty decent and you can be out of touch with the real world all you want!

Dunno, you need to work out if you're after a job or a career right now.

I'm not doing any ad buys right now as most of the current clientele are either PR or consulting, or I'd help out by purchasing some ad space.  I will, however, look you up as soon as the next one comes along - most likely after E3.

There's a good enough pool of people here for several of you to make a good living from it, if you're so inclined.  You'll need to diversify a little with the sites you each operate/run, and if one of you is artistic enough - a good web comic is an excellent draw for advertisers, and finally you'll need a good as sales person (screw google ads, they're excellent filler, but the ad market is such where you can make much more on your own with just minimal hustle).

Anyway, I'm always around if you need more advice on this front.

P.S.  My original handle Savant was either under my gamedesigner.net or my last firm's domain, neither which I'm associated with anymore, so I couldn't retrieve my password.  If someone wants to help with that and help me get rid of this annoying 2 at the end of my name, I'll be forever thankful.
